Staffordshire was one of the earliest county associations to be established in the country, being founded in 1939 – prior to outbreak of World War II. Its aim was to facilitate emergency planning during the War, to enable networking, to lobby for PCs and provide legal and other advice to them. In 1947 the National Association of Parish Councils (NALC) was founded (following work done by National Council of Social Service in 1934), which has a team of specialist legal, policy and financial advisors. More than 88% of the 180 parish and town councils in Staffordshire are in membership. The members range from the smallest of parish councils with just a few hundred electors to the largest town councils with tens of thousands of electors. The Association provides training and offers courses on such varied subjects as chairmanship skills, council procedures and accounting and budgeting. It also offers the formal qualification for clerks, the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA). There are 41 County Associations of Local (parish and town) Councils in England and Wales with some 9,500 parish, town and community councils in membership.

Paignton

The Devon School of Hypnotherapy was founded in Paignton, 2012 to compliment my hypnosis practice. Once developed, I started teaching a one-day self-hypnosis workshop designed to introduce the art and science of hypnosis and teach individuals how and when to use self-hypnosis from my clinic on Hyde Road in Devon. Initially, my students were current or former clients, but others heard about the school and wanted to learn more for themselves. Less than a year from setting up the school, I was running regular workshops as well as my then newly developed Certificate in Hypnotherapy weekend course (known now as the Introduction to Hypnotherapy weekend). Over the following year, I began writing the Diploma in Hypnotherapy course. Writing the diploma course and getting it accredited by The General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC) was no mean feat. I wanted graduates to be ready and confident to enter professional practice once qualified and ensure that they had adequate live experiences to back their knowledge. After several months of dedication and hard work, the diploma was completed. Now my students could train from complete novice to confident practitioners at one school over a period of 10 months.

Mainly, the education system in the UK is divided into four major parts, primary education, secondary education, further education and higher education. Children in the UK have to legally attend primary and secondary education in the mandatory base and this education runs from about 5 years old until the student is 16 years old. The education system in the UK is also split into “stages” which breaks down as follows: STAGE 1: 5 to 7 years old STAGE 2: 7 to 11 years old STAGE 3: 11 to 14 years old STAGE 4: 14 to 16 years old Generally, stages 1 and 2 will be undertaken at primary school until the age of 10 and afterwards, at 11 years old a student will move into the secondary school and finish the stages 3 and 4. Students are assessed at the end of each stage. The most important assessment occurs at age 16 when students pursue their GCSE’s or general certificate of secondary education. Once students complete their GCSE’s they have the choice to go onto further education and then potential higher education, or finish school and go into the working world.

The school is based in Nottingham and opened in November 2011 by principle Katie Wright. We offer dance classes to boys and girls from the age of 18 months right through to adults. Pupils are trained in ISTD Ballet, Tap, and Modern Theatre and in addition have the opportunity to participate in Acrobatic Arts classes, Progressing Ballet Technique, Jazz, Lyrical, Musical Theatre and singing classes. The children are all encouraged to perform in our show that takes place at Nottingham Playhouse and have been taking part in festivals around the midlands where as a school we have enjoyed much success. We give the children as many opportunities as possible and have most recently appeared in Debenhams and John Lewis Nottingham and in the nationwide Wilkos advertisement. We have danced at Disneyland Paris and London's O2. Examinations are held at the school's venue where the child's progress and development is assessed using ISTD graded syllabus. Our teachers are fully qualified in the genre they teach, hold a DBS certificate, first aid trained and able to teach children of all ages and abilities and children are able to enrol throughout the year.

Graduating students can progress to a University programme, either to join at Undergraduate entry level, usually on completion of Level 3, or onto a “top-up” Degree, depending on the level of their OFQUAL programme. For an official breakdown of what each level means, please visit https://www.gov.uk/what-different-qualification-levels-mean/compare-different-qualification-levels Top-up degrees are for those who already hold a nationally recognised Certificate or Diploma of an appropriate level and are looking to complete their qualification to a full Degree. For Level 3 programmes students can apply for Undergraduate entry for a full three-year programme. Level 4 requires final 2 years completion. At Level 5 it is the final year, Level 6 will give entry to post graduate programmes and Level 7 gives exemptions from certain Masters programmes including MBA. Top-up courses require you to have a diploma qualification in a relevant subject; this means that the course of study should be closely tied to your previous qualification. However, it does not have to be the same subject. This flexibility allows our students to have a wide range of career or completion prospects upon graduation.

I’m now looking to pass on some of my experience to help you learn the language and use it the way you need to use it for your work, rest, or play. So I am a qualified TEFL teacher, with a Certificate in English Language Training and I host language students at my home here in England who come for a holiday learning experience. For many years I worked in computing and business and my work took me around the world. I have spent a little time living in France, and more recently I was living in Germany, donc je peux parlais un petit peux de la francais, aber auch ein bissen Deutsch. That means I know what it’s like to learn a foreign language. It may help, you never know! In terms of my lessons with you, how these are structured really depends on your language level and what you want or need to learn. We can discuss this during our introductory session, and I can then put together a training plan so you can meet your objectives. I will use a combination of digital and printed resources to backup each session and focus on an aspect of the language you need. In each lesson I also plan to give you plenty of opportunity to practice and actually use the language you are learning. And I always plan to make my sessions fun….. Thistle Aikikai is a member of the Scottish and Borders Birankai under the technical direction of T.K Chiba Shihan. The Chief Instructor, Michael Flynn Shihan began his study of Aikido in 1982 at San Diego Aikikai under the direction of Shihan TK Chiba. He was named Shihan in June of 2005 and was awarded 7th Dan by Doshu Ueshiba Moriteru on 14 January 2018 during the Kagami Baraki celebration at Hombu Dojo. He was formally awarded his Shihan Certificate in a ceremony at Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo in November 2006 by the second Doshu, Ueshiba Moriteru. He has also received Iaido Shihan title from Mitsuzuka Sensei. Since arriving in Scotland, Flynn Sensei has established the Thistle Aikikai. He serves as the Chairman and Technical Director of Scottish and Borders Birankai. Thisle Aikikai offers beginner through to advanced classes in Aikido and weapons. All are welcome. Instruction in Iaido , the art of drawing the sword and striking a killing blow, is also offered at Thistle Aikikai. In Iaido, students learn to use the sword not merely as a tool for cutting down one’s enemy, but as a method of allowing the mind and body to become more harmonious with nature. During training, students will learn the forms of the Muso Shinden Ryu Iai as developed by Nakayama Hakudo Sensei, with a goal toward synchronizing their breathing and body motions within the techniques in order to understand and practice the efficient use of the body.
