Let me tell you a bit about my experience and my approach to languages. I started learning foreign languages as a child and have been teaching them for more than twenty years; this has helped me see both ends of the process, as a learner and as a tutor. Over the years I experienced and witnessed those cycles of -unrealistic expectations, peaks of enthusiasm and, frequent frustration, which we all go through when learning a language. That got me thinking... Are languages too difficult? What are the learners' challenges? Is the teacher's method and approach relevant? So, after seeing people struggle, sometimes give up, and other times persevere and succeed, I decided to use my experience, i.e. what had worked in my teaching and in my learning and I founded LIVE TO LEARN LANGUAGES, where I create a space for all to harvest the emotional, cultural and intellectual rewards of learning a second language. Tutors who join our team us must all share the same passion and human qualities: dedication, patience and creativity; the latter being essential to explain grammar and develop activities that will exercise students' memory muscle enthusiastically. ABOUT ME A Leadership Coach With A Difference I'm now an ICF accredited individual, group and team coach. But that isn't how I started out in life! I'm also a PhD research scientist and I've spent 16 years working in and leading academic and pharmaceutical drug discovery research teams. Most of that time I was thriving, but I reached a turning point where I often felt like I didn't fit, and I didn't know why. In part of my role I felt I was valued and doing well, but in another part I was constantly told to do things a different way and everything felt difficult and frustrating. So when I got the opportunity to train as a coach I jumped at it! Very quickly I realised I had a special talent for coaching. I was surprised to discover that a lot of apparently confident senior leaders struggled at work. and that I was able to help them in a way they had never experienced before. Even in those early days of coaching my clients commented on my calm, relaxing presence that made them feel they could be themself in our sessions and discuss things they never normally shared. The training also involved a lot of self development and group work, which helped me to figure out my situation. I started to understand why I wasn't happy in part of my job, yet loved the other part. A big part of this was discovering the concept of flow.

In March 2003 Richard Long travelled to the Maasai Mara for a short photographic holiday. It was during this trip that he visited the school and learned about its needs, since then he has returned at least twice a year to assist the schools and local community. The Mara Rianda Charitable Trust is a company that was incorporated in England on 5 February 2004. Its company number is 5035681. It was registered as a charity with the UK Charity Commission on 23 February 2004. Its charity number is 1102255. It is governed by the UK Company and charity legislation. The directors and trustees are: Colin Bird Nigel Hollingsworth Richard Long Our community officer in the Mara is: Julius Karia Julius has the important role of being the charity’s eyes and ears in the Mara. Although he is a full time employee of Governors’ Camp they have generously appointed him to be our local community officer and he regularly meets with the schools, students and community and reports back to the Trustees. It would be very difficult for us to operate without his hard work and dedication. A Trustee visits the local community twice a year and establishes what the needs and problems, if any, are. The Trustees meet on a regular basis and decide on the work, funding and spending of the charity. All funds raised are used to support the schools and local community. Please note that no funds are used to meet any overheads or salaries in running the charity. The directors and trustees work without any remuneration or salary.
