Concern surrounding underachievement of young males was brought into sharp focus in 2007 by the independent REACH report. Sponsored by The Home Office, The Department for Communities and Local Government and The Department for Education and Families, the report explored the costs associated with the problems that can arise from a disadvantaged socio-economic background, in this case specifically for young black males. These costs are associated with over-representation in the Criminal Justice System and reduced gross earnings and taxes associated with educational underachievement. They are estimated at £808 million a year and could amount to £24 billion over the next 50 years if the underlying issues are not addressed. From a working-class background himself, Clive attributes his corporate career success to hard work and maintaining a positive attitude. A key finding of the REACH report was a lack of positive male role models, particularly black male role models, in the media and the lives of young men. Clive knows from experience that the socio-economic gap to success can be bridged – he has held a number of senior level HR positions, is a company director and was awarded an OBE in 2010 for his contributions to the REACH report and the workplace mediation industry. Thus his involvement in the REACH report, together with his own personal experience, has inspired the development of the Bridge Builders Mentoring Scheme.

The Hong Kong International Coaching Community (HKICC) is a non-profit organisation that cares about the development of coaching and coaches in Hong Kong and beyond. What started in 2002 as the first graduate class of a Hong Kong coach training school reconnecting to share experiences, we are now the longest established professional coaching association in Hong Kong. With well over 100 coaches and counting, we have grown into a professional community of individuals who share the common purpose to inspire and nurture people to be their best through coaching.We continuously strive to meet the needs of all our members. Regular growth and development initiatives are hosted to improve the skills and standards of our members as both coaches and coaching entrepreneurs. We recognise that new coaches may need guidance when starting their journey. We therefore organise specific workshops and mentoring programmes to support them. To give our members a chance to connect and learn from each other, we arrange regular drinks and social gatherings throughout the year, both online and offline. We also create volunteering opportunities for our members to support HKICC and other members, as well as to give back to society. Members are able to lead projects as mentors, become an event host, write a blog, join pro-bono initiatives and much more.

Since 2006 we have been fortunate enough to be able to rent the Hildenborough C of E primary school, which provides a fine, safe and friendly learning environment. Since the school was first established it has grown that we currently welcome around 70 children with German background from the ages of 3.5 to 11 years old. Our objective is to create a fun and friendly environment in which children can practice, enhance and improve the German they learn at home, make new friends and widen their knowledge of German culture and traditions. As we are not a formal language school, and therefore do not teach German as a foreign language, all lessons are held in German. It is therefore essential that the children have a certain minimum level of understanding and speaking German when they first start at the school. We have 6 classes with a maximum of 12 children per class. The lessons are held each Saturday morning during term time from 10am until 12 midday. All Classes are taught by German teachers or by parents with the relevant qualifications. It is important that all children enjoy being taught in German and look forward to coming to the Saturday lessons. The first lesson with Jack was awesome! Made me feel incredibly welcome, and at ease. He explained the fundamentals of the lesson, how lessons are structured going forward and taught in a clear, easy-to-understand manner. Worked at the pace I felt comfortable with, offered advice on how to improve, and made me feel confident in what I was doing. So pleased I found him as my new teacher! Excited for the next lesson and more! BEN Had a lesson with Jack! This was my first time playing the drums and was a Christmas present. I have always wanted to try and see if I could play. Well, Jack was very patient and very good at breaking down the basics, he showed different ways of learning so depending on how you as an individual learn, Jack has a teaching method to help you. By the end of the lesson, I was playing along to the music which surprised me. I really felt a sense of accomplishment at the end of the lesson and that is all down to Jack and the way he teaches! DEAN I started my drumming lessons with Jack and I have nothing but praise for his work. He's very patient, encouraging, and paces the class perfectly. His classes are motivating, interesting and a lot of fun. I'd highly recommend.

ABC Paramedic Services was set up by our Training and Event Manager, Craig Gray. Craig spent fifteen years working in front line Emergency Services within the Scottish Ambulance Service in Edinburgh. The final six years of this was spent as a First Response Paramedic on a Rapid Response Vehicle dealing predominately with Class A / Red (i.e. potentially life threatening) emergencies. In 2011 Craig became the first Paramedic in the history of the Scottish Ambulance Service to be awarded ‘The Chief Executive’s Special Award’ for displaying the highest levels of commitment and professionalism in his job. Craig’s considerable knowledge and expertise extends to the private sector including delivering First Aid Training to Healthcare Professionals, courses at the Royal College of Surgeons, and providing Medical Cover at events such as ‘T in the Park’, ‘The Edinburgh Tattoo’ and the ‘Queen’s Garden Party’. In 2012, Craig provided Paramedic level cover as Chief Medical Officer at the ‘Urdd National Eisteddfod’ festival in Wales with over 100,000 spectators in attendance. Craig has also employed his medical skills for charitable causes, running a medical clinic in a remote part of North East India as well as being involved in a pioneering ‘out of hospital Cardiac Arrest’ study aimed at improving CPR skills. Craig takes a very personal, hands-on approach to the business and is actively involved in the strategic developments of all training, events, and projects.
