We limit bookings for our introductory, intermediate and advanced wine tasting courses and our Saturday wine tasting workshops to 16 people – much more sociable, much more fun. Flexible Booking Many people who sign up for our wine tasting courses on weekday evenings lead busy lives, working under pressure and travelling on business, often at short notice. We understand the problem. If you have to miss a course session, you may either send a substitute or pick up that session on a subsequent course. Just let us know and we will make the arrangements. We make no charge for this and set no time limit! Impartial Advice Many wine tastings and wine tasting courses are run by wine merchants. Nothing wrong with that. It’s a great way to get potential customers into their stores and promote sales of their wines. We are not wine merchants. We don’t sell wine. We are not paid by any wine merchant to promote their wines. So, at our wine tastings and on our wine courses, you will never come under any pressure to buy wine. The wines we select for you to taste are intended to illustrate the main points of the wine course session or the theme of the wine tasting. We hope you will enjoy most of the wines we give you to taste but don’t necessarily expect you to enjoy them all. Your course tutor will help you to understand what makes a wine enjoyable. But he or she will also tell you if a wine is too young, too old, too acidic, too alcoholic or just plain faulty. Just imagine a wine merchant doing that! Wherever possible, we buy the wines we give you to taste from local retail outlets. We will tell you where we bought them and how much we paid. The In The Pocket band workshop takes place over three days. Classes run from 11am to 2pm on Wednesday and Thursday and 11am to 3pm on Friday. Each day involves three learning sessions of around 45 minutes with two twenty minute breaks. At the beginning of the workshop, we listen to some music and collectively choose songs to learn and spend the rest of the first day learning the parts of the first song under the guidance of the teachers. We finish the day with a jam session. On day two, we run through the song from day one and start learning a second song. We finish the day with a jam session. On day three, we hone and polish our two songs. We may even add another song to the mix. At the end of day three, we perform the songs we’ve learned for broadcast to the world via social media platforms. Who Is It For? All young musicians aged 8 to 16 are welcome to join. If you have at least six months experience playing your instrument, you can fit in and be part of the band. Whatever instruments you play, you can rock. OK, we haven’t had anyone turn up with a harp yet but we regularly work with singers, guitarists, pianists and keyboardists, drummers, saxophonists, trumpeters, ukuleleists, bassists and so on. When small, Abigail Jackson made shoes from wallpaper sample books and lashed her brothers’ wooden building blocks onto her feet with string believing herself to be a geisha. In her bedroom she stitched gnomes on hankies and cut off the frills from her maxi dress to make clothes for Pippa the pocket-sized doll. In the kitchen her mum sat her on the draining board, put sellotape across her fringe and cut under it. Abigail Jackson became one of a tiny handful of Daventry punks, who shuffling round town in bondage trousers from Seditionaries and handmade clothes coloured in with biro pens, held together with hundreds of safety pins. In her bedroom she made homemade Sid Vicious badges with pages from the NME and sticky back plastic. Dreamt of being in The Slits and planned never to have a proper job. Abi went to Northampton Art College in the ’80’s to study fashion design and Illustration. Its this foundation of designing and pattern cutting that has coloured her judgment ever since. From opening a clothes shop in Coventry at the age of 19 to opening the studio in her 50’s Its only ever been about creating and making. Abi works as a freelancer so no two jobs are the same. She designs, sews and makes for a living, breathing, all singing, all dancing proper job. In the between times she has work as a freelance wardrobe supervisor traveling extensively and working with some wonderful people. Upon returning home she stitches in her studio, works on community or school projects, plans workshops and collaborates with other creatives in Burns Street Studios. Dr. Steve Wolf, Ph.D. is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PSY 10230), in private practice in West Los Angeles. After teaching Anger Management for five years, he was recognized as having diplomate status with the National Anger Management Association (NAMA) in 2005; which he currently holds. He has been an innovator throughout his professional career. He co-directed New York City’s first Prison Therapeutic Community Program in Rikers Island Prison’s Psychiatric Ward in 1973 and directed Rikers’ first Therapeutic Community Drug Program for the general prison population in 1974. He directed a Day Treatment Center in Litchfield Connecticut, volunteered with the L.A. Sheriff’s Department to co-create Project Turnaround, an Acupuncture Detox program on L.A.’s skid row. He co-created an alternative middle school in Topanga, CA, co-authored “Romancing the Shadow: A Guide to Soul Work for a Vital Authentic Life” (Ballantine, 1997, translated into six languages), and developed “The Village Circle Project”: leaderless groups for self-exploration. He consulted as a Co-Occurring Disorders therapist in Los Angeles working with men coming directly from prison, jail or the street for five years. In 2006, he authored the “Taming Your Anger” series of English and Spanish workbooks, DVD’s, C.D.’s and workshops. He recently taught the Taming Your Anger/Emotional Intelligence Method to at-risk teens and has produced a documentary film of that program. In 2010. he founded the Wolf Training Institute, which serves as the umbrella for all the programs in development. This is where the practitioners are certified to teach and coach the Taming Your Anger, Taming Your Anxiety and CouplezWork Programs. The Taming Your Anger Program is recognized by the National Anger Management Association. In 2012, he produced the documentary, Remedy 4 Rage; the story of one alternative high school group and their journey into exploring their own emotions. In 2014, he began to host the weekly “Shrink Different Radio Show” on the TFOK Network. He has interviewed celebrities and regular people who have interesting lives. The show is about people and their passions. He maintains a therapy practice, working with adults and couples in West Los Angeles. The next book is on the evolving couple and is scheduled to be released in early 2020.
