Thank you for visiting the Valence School website. We are proud to share with you the excellent work we do with children and young people who have physical disabilities and complex medical needs. Our school is unique within the maintained sector in the whole of southern England. We cater for students aged 4 to 19 and have both day and boarding places. We have a large site with high quality teaching, social care and health care facilities. A staff team of over 200 people provides specialist teaching, social care, therapies and nursing care to an exceptionally high standard. Our overall aim is to enable every child and young person to achieve meaningful independence. Students flourish in a supportive but challenging environment, making good educational progress and achieving a range of accreditation as they get older. There is excellent support to enable students to achieve functional communication, mobility and skills for daily living. We are a Foundation Special School and are part of the Kent SEN Trust, a cooperative trust of ten schools working together to improve outcomes for all the children and young people attending the schools. In 2008 Valence became a specialist Sports College and this status plays a significant role in raising students’ achievements and their participation in high quality physical education and sport. The School works proactively with parents and external professionals to provide holistic support for every child and young person. It is also developing high quality outreach support services to local schools and more widely for children and young people in Kent who have physical disabilities who are attending mainstream schools. The School always places children and young people at the centre of all decisions it takes and it has a relentless focus on achieving the best possible outcomes for every student. You can find out about us through this website but can also visit to see the School first hand!

Hi , I’m Angela, a part time biomedical scientist as well as a yoga fanatic, Mum and owner of a mad Springer Spaniel! Yoga is for everyone and there is a style/styles that will be the ‘correct fit’ for you. I encourage an embodied approach as this is the true nature of yoga, which means to yoke or unite. More than just posture (asana) work, yoga really begins with the breath which is used to connect the body, mind and soul ‘complex’. I have been practising yoga for almost 20 years and in December 2018 completed my 200 hour training in Ashtanga Vinyasa with Meadowlark Yoga in Edinburgh. In 2019 I completed Kids yoga teacher training with Cosmic Kids Yoga - which was a lot of fun! In 2020 I undertook Chair yoga training (for seniors and those with special requirements) with Yuva Yoga online, and in later in 2020 I completed a 100 hour Yin and Restorative training with Meadowlark Yoga. This year I qualified as an advanced Reiki Master and I am using this in my yoga teaching to enhance the connection between body, mind and soul. I am now a fully qualified and accredited menopause yoga teacher. The aim of this style of yoga is to support women in their 40’s and 50’s on their menopause journey by use of specifically designed sequences (which help with various menopausal symptoms), providing information about diet, complimentary therapies, journaling and discussion in a woman’s circle setting. I have recently finished my meditation training with Dhugal Meachem as well as a my first 50 hours of The Principles of Chinese Medicine - and am so excited to bring this to the classes that I offer - it has created some big shifts for me so far!"

You want the best for your child. You want to know they have been able to reach their fullest potential. My motto ‘no child left behind’ resonates with all families who have faced delays or denials to services. I taught for over 17 years and was a Head of Year to over 360 children, but I left my mainstream position to forge a better pathway when my son was 12 weeks old: I’ve not looked back since. During the pandemic I witnessed many children suffering with speech regression, especially my autistic families. I decided to undertake training in Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy for which I obtained a ‘High Distinction’ and in 2021 I successfully completed a MSc in Psychology (specialising in SEN) which informs my work. I am also registered with the BPS (British Psychological Society). Recently, ‘The Learn to Shine school’ appeared on the BBC after winning the ‘Making a Difference’ BBC award. I have extensive experience of working with and supporting children with Autism, PDA, foetal alcohol syndrome, Selective Mutism, ADHD, Dyslexia, complex emotional and behavioural difficulties, with significant results. It is essential to me that your child is nurtured as an individual, and given the correct tools for the rest of their life. I support numerous companies as an SEN consultant and currently advise Talent management The YMU group on neurodiversity. I am often interviewed for magazines and radio stations on SEN matters and want to dispel the myths out there! I created ‘Learn to Shine school CIC’ around the birth of my own little boy and girl. I know how hard parenting can be, and the challenges families face in the world of education, My passion is to enable every child, including my own, to be able to ‘Shine’.
