How do I attend?

EITHER -
CLASSROOM OPTION - Attend one of our scheduled classroom locations, completing your Introduction to Phlebotomy Course over 2 days. You will also complete your Advanced Training at the end of the first day and your Competency Training at the end of the second day.

Our Introduction to Phlebotomy and Advanced Phlebotomy Training Kits are supplied at no charge when booking our virtual classroom training option.
If you would like to add one or both of these kits to your classroom training option then these are available to add at time of booking. Our comprehensive training kits each mirror the same equipment and supplies used in the classroom and both include detailed video tutorials, allowing you to continue to practice and "hone" your skills after you have completed your practical training.

OR -

VIRTUAL CLASSROOM OPTION- Complete your theory training online at home or work, then join us for a one day Zoom session to complete your Introduction to Phlebotomy virtual classroom training, followed by your Advanced Training in the evening of the same day. You have the option to add a classroom-based competency session, awarding a CPD Accredited Geopace Certificate of Competency, at time of booking.

Our Virtual Classroom option includes two very comprehensive training kits - one for your introductory course and one for your advanced course. Kits are included at no charge (normally £79.95 each) and are yours to keep and to continue to practice with after you have finished your courses. The equipment and supplies included in your kits are the same as those used if you choose the classroom option.

2 - Syringe and Needle (open system): Correct use and applications.
3 - Monovette (open and closed systems):
Using the Monovette system in aspiration mode - correct use and applications.
Using the Monovette system in evacuated mode - correct use and applications.
4 - IR Vein Detector:
Demonstration of the IR vein detector for assisting in detection of difficult veins.
5 - Veins in back of hand:
Detecting suitable veins in the back of the hand.
6 - POC testing:
Point of Care Testing - use of glucose meter to demonstrate a typical POC test procedure. Correct use and overview of other POC test devices.
7 - Using lancets (finger collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for POC testing and whole blood micro-collection.
8 - Using lancets (heel collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for neonatal blood spot tests (Guthrie Test).
9 - Capillary collection
Using glass capillary tubes for micro-collection. Correct use and handling.
10 - Microtube collection
Correct use of BD Microtainers (and similar micro-collection bottles) - collection and handling.

Learn essential skills and techniques used by phlebotomists to draw blood from neonates and paediatrics. Covers many of the skills developed by medical professionals working in Special Care Baby Units and Children's Wards.
The course can be completed in stages - you have 8 weeks to complete the course in full. Once completed you will immediately be able to download your pass certificate. (Your new accredited certificate will be posted to you within 6-8 weeks).
The nationally recognised and accredited certificate (awarded by the Open College Network) can be added to your existing certificate credit value (cumulative credits), and these may also count towards other similar college or university courses.
This course complements our Introduction to Phlebotomy Course and is a natural progression route for practising and experienced phlebotomists wishing to expand on their existing phlebotomy qualifications. The course is also open to anyone completing another (approved) provider's phlebotomy training course.
At the end of each e-learning section (module) you have a series of multiple choice questions to answer. You can re-sit each section a total of 3 times.

PART 1 (THEORY) - STUDY AT HOME ONLINE :

PART 2 (PRACTICAL SESSIONS) - JOIN US FOR A COMPREHENSIVE ONE DAY ZOOM SESSION:
Full instructions will be provided. We will send you a completely free Practise@Home Phlebotomy Training Kit, including a mini-arm trainer, for you to keep. You will follow your tutor's on-screen instructions during your Zoom virtual classroom sessions as you learn and develop your phlebotomy skills. The procedures and practices taught online are exactly the same as you would learn in the classroom. At any time before or after your course you can watch our 30 minute step-by-step video to refresh your knowledge and continue to use your training kit to practice your skills.

P01: Practical Session 1 – Equipment familiarisation - "Tools of the Trade"
P02A: Practical Session 2A – Unpacking your training kit
P02B: Practical Session 2B - A look at the mini-arm trainer and associated equipment
P03: Practical Session 3 – Using the tourniquet and identifying a vein
P04: Practical Session 4 – Handling and assembling the equipment. Familiarisation and procedures including initial skill-set development
P05: Practical Session 5 - Further skill-set development and consolidation. Discussing needle types including winged infusion sets (butterfly needles)
P06A: Practical Session 6A – Performing the venepuncture on the mini-arm trainer. Palpating the vein, performing the venepuncture. Sample handling and labelling.
P06B: Practical Session 6B – Consolidating pre- and post-venepuncture procedures.

Our Virtual Classroom training course consists of online study (Part 1 - theory) and Virtual Classroom Zoom sessions (Part 2 - practical skill-set development)
