Creative Writing Mentoring & Creativity Coaching for Writers

creative writing mentoring & creativity coaching for writers

Our programmes offer individual and group coaching sessions for writers who are facing blocks, bumps, or other challenges in their writing process. The coaching aims to help writers regain their passion for writing, build confidence, and develop new writing techniques. The programme provides accountability and support for writers, helping them to overcome obstacles and reach their writing goals. The coaching sessions begin with an evaluation questionnaire to tailor the group to the writer's specific needs. * Tailored coaching: Evaluation questionnaire to address specific needs. * Overcome obstacles: Collaborative solutions for writing blocks. * Rekindle passion: Maintain drive and passion for writing. * Develop skills: Opportunity to improve writing techniques and skills. * Comprehensive support: Accountability, compassion, and a listening ear throughout writing project. As humans we have an innate connection to the natural world. This connection is tied up with the deepest part of ourselves, our unconscious. The part of our self that is both illusive and difficult to define but that is bound up with our emotional and physical make up. It is also bound to the creative part of us, it’s where our ideas come from. It’s curious, then, why writers don’t talk more about their connection to nature and the natural world. It is curious because ignoring this part of our creative makeup makes the writing process all the more difficult. Not just the writing process, but the writing life and making meaning with our words. Maybe it’s time to consider a change. Get away from your daily routine, or even your surroundings, and discover a way to Reimagine, Refresh and Reboot. “Highly recommend the course for opening up fixed writing patterns and limiting thought processes, to inspire a more enjoyable writing process and make your writing richer so it is ultimately more successful” Liz Web, Author of The Daughter As a new or struggling writer, how do you know it’s time for a helping hand? Here are my reasons why you’d want to do this for yourself, your writing process and your writing life and the benefits that come with investing in The Write Wild Method: GETTING UNSTUCK YOU - Are you stuck in the middle of things? Or stuck, unable to begin? The Write Wild Method will help you gain a fresh perspective, find new ideas and insights and ultimately get you started, or unstuck so you make it to the finishing line of your writing project. WRITE COMPELLING PROSE YOUR WRITER’S VOICE – are you struggling with making meaning with your writing? Does it feel flat, unexciting, are you wondering why anyone would want to read anything you write? Would you benefit from a method that will give you the confidence to find and develop your authentic voice so you can write the words you mean to write? BATTLING WITH FEAR AND ANXIETY YOUR WRITING LIFE – did you know that the more anxious you get the less creative you can be? This is a fact, anxiety swamps the part of your brain that is responsible for creating. Anxiety kills creativity flat. There are simple techniques within The Write Wild Method that will reduce your level of anxiety so that you can begin creating, the more practice you get with these techniques, the more creative you will be able to become and the better your writing life will be. GOALESS OR DIRECTIONLESS YOUR WRITING PROCESS – are you confused about what direction you should be taking? Uncertain about which writing project you should be tackling? Do you have a clear idea but are unable to make that idea materialize? How you begin and keep going to the finish is not always about how committed you are to any one project. It can be that you have no clear direction about what the project demands or what you want from the project. The benefit of developing a writing process that works for is that you will get from start to finish in a way that satisfies your project, yourself and your reader. Within the Write Wild Method you will be able to identify what works and what doesn’t work in terms of process and get practice in making your writing process the thing that gets you reaching your goals.

Neuroscience of Dance

neuroscience of dance

This project is the vessel through which I teach about the brain mechanisms of dance in a fun, engaging manner so that everyone can access and get the maximum benefits from dancing. Oftentimes, the focus in dance science and dance education is turned to the body, leaving behind it's connection to the mind and brain. Understanding the brain mechanisms in dance can improve performance, make classes more inclusive, prevent injury and optimize both learning and teaching. In the workshops I provide the theory in a dynamic fashion, always applying it to practice promoting embodied cognition and equipping dancers with easy-to-apply techniques. In a fast-paced world where we are often disconnected from ourselves, my focus is to use the body as a tool of learning and give the what and the how in a practical and interesting way. Part of the workshops is dedicated to initiating conversation and exchange insights. Experiencing and sharing experiences leads to greater knowledge that includes subjective and objective aspects of knowing. My approach is based on scientific evidence-based knowledge, my background in dance (performing, teaching), coaching, and mental health experience. By being embedded in academia and being an active student, I keep up-to-date with the most recent information in a constantly changing neuroscientific field. From this project, I have developed my own evidence-based method called Dance Integrated Healing which enhances all the healing properties of dance. The Dance Integrated Healing method is now being employed by the Dutch Mental Health Association. https://www.facebook.com/DanceIntegratedHealing

As a leader, how do you approach developing and managing strategy in your organisation? How should it consider the future, especially in times of uncertainty?  What could you do to develop your team's strategic thinking? How do you go about strengthening the organisation's strategy capabilities so that it has the confidence to deal with the challenges and opportunities that might arise?  Our Strategy Insights Masterclasses are designed to help you answer these questions and  develop an approach that is right for your organisation. Every organisation is different and faces its own challenges, and in the Masterclasses we adopt a 'first principles' approach to strategy and the tools, techniques and methods which can help, including the space and individual advice so that you can decide how to apply these in your organisation. The Masterclasses are led by David Booth, who has been helping organisations develop and implement their strategies for over 25 years, working with some of the UK’s leading organisations from the NHS to major financial institutions. Prior to this he spent 20 years in business management, working for companies including United Biscuits, Grand Metropolitan and Smith & Nephew, in senior roles across marketing, HR, and strategic development.  David’s book, ‘Strategy Journeys – a Guide to Effective Strategic Planning’ was shortlisted for the Chartered Management Institute Management Book of the Year 2018, and he is a Fellow of the Strategic Planning Society (FStratPS).

/my name is Amanda and I’m an Abdominal Therapy Practitioner and Educator. I also offer Holistic massage and Energy work in the Tradition of the Maya. My story begins in the mists of time when I was raising my wonderful offspring. Being interested in complementary therapy I used this period in my life to learn about a variety of therapies and techniques that could help my children through their early years and beyond. When my children flew the nest, I felt the calling to become a complementary therapist and embarked on a life-changing journey. In 2005 on the insistence of a great friend Hilary Lewin, I attended an amazing class based on the work of Dr Rosita Arvigo. This workshop had a profound effect on my whole being. I felt the power of the work, I observed the changes in my body as I practised my abdominal massage at home. I could not believe that such a sweet simple technique could have such a profound effect. My journey had begun, I wanted to not only learn the technique but also understand why it seemed to help with so many health challenges. They say the right teacher will appear when the time is right and I have been blessed. I trained directly with Rosita Arvigo, the founder of the work I now offer in my clinic and the classroom. Understanding the similarities between Maya Medicine and Chinese medicine, in 2011, I travelled to Thailand and studied traditional Thai Massage with the renowned traditional healer, Bann Hom who lives in Chaing Mai, Northern Thailand. It did not surprise me to find her treating her community with an abdominal technique that was not a million miles from the work I knew and loved. I have been inspired by Gil Hedley, the brilliant anatomist who offers dissection classes for anyone who is interested in observing the anatomical connections within the human form. Marty Ryan – Love your Guts Seminars, taught me how to listen to my hands, his palpation classes revealed what was beneath the skin. Life is for learning and every belly I touch teaches me something new. And so, to now, in September 2020 working with a passionate group of educators and colleagues including Rosita Arvigo I became a founding member of the Abdominal Therapy Collective.

Biteabout Arts

Berwick uponTweed

After graduating with a BA(Hons) Fine Art at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, London in 1988, I returned home to Northumberland to work as a photographic artist and silversmith. In 1994 I trained to teach whilst continuing on my own creative journey. I started experimenting with the many processes in the making of felt in 2005. I fell in love with its versatility, being able to paint with a varied palette of dyed wools, create something delicate and ephemeral using fine wools and silks, or use more sculptural techniques to form vessels. In 2008 I was introduced to the many varieties of coloured willows grown locally for basketry and the traditional techniques used to work with them. It excited me and I started using these to create vessels and sculptural forms. In 2011 I set up Biteabout Arts with the intention of creating unique items for sale and delivering a variety of art and craft workshops. We have been renovating the buildings at our smallholding to provide a working environment and somewhere to deliver workshops. Biteabout Farm is a North Northumbrian smallholding consisting of over 7 acres of permanent pasture. It was formally known as Coalshank (sited near to Biteabout Colliery) and also The Red Lion Inn ...'a troublesome little pub' until the 1940s. Badly neglected in more recent years, we took it on in 2002 and started its transformation. With far more work needed than initially anticipated, renovation is still ongoing, but nearing completion. I am now working in my studio and have a program of workshops on offer here. Sculptures are made to commission. Drawing on their creative expertise of materials, processes, 3D form and design, a working partnership between Anna Turnbull and Richard Charters. Working together, they explore the creative possibilities of your idea. The creative process takes time. It starts with collaboration through drawing, discussion and exploration of materials. An animated armature is created in mild steel by Richard, the bones. Anna weaves the flesh, emphasising its muscles and flow, its movement. It is the dialogue between them that brings the creations to life. Each sculpture is unique due to its individually made metal armature and the natural material of willow. Past pieces can be recreated, but each will have its own stance, character, life.
