About this Training Course Comprising 5 full-day sessions, this intermediate to advanced level course is specifically designed for senior exploration geoscientists currently active in hydrocarbon play and prospect mapping, to optimise conceptual geological input into their technical evaluation. The course focuses on seismic stratigraphic analysis in different basin settings - i.e., passive, convergent, extension and oblique - in order to construct a coherent geological story line, underpinning hydrocarbon play and prospect evaluation. The course is largely based on seismic stratigraphic case histories and exercises, with the support of seismic, well log and outcrop examples. Training Objectives Through short, focused presentations and a series of industry case history-based examples and exercises, participants will learn to optimise conceptual geoscience input into technical subsurface analysis. This will help to produce coherent geological subsurface interpretations for use in Play-based, Prospect and Appraisal evaluations. Target Audience This course is intended for senior geoscientists with more than five years of work experience, with a background in play and/or prospect evaluation and experience in seismic interpretation. Course Level Intermediate Advanced Training Methods Participants will be exposed to short lectures throughout the 5 days, followed by hands-on individual and team exercises in a variety of geological settings. 'Let the data tell their story' is a key recurring theme in this course. Trainer Your expert course leader has 38 years of experience as Exploration Geologist for Shell globally, with field experience in a/o Egypt, NW Borneo, MENA, China, Madagascar, North Sea, Oman and The Netherlands (Shell EP Research and Training Centre in Rijswijk). LOOKING FOR: ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION Una is a Rights Agent at Susanna Lea Associates and am starting to build a client list. She grew up in London and graduated from the University of Cambridge with a BA in English in 2021. At university, Una was particularly interested in contemporary West African and South Asian literature. She started as an agent's assistant at SLA London in 2022 and now handles some translation rights and provides support with editorial work and submissions. Una's favourite reads always set her at ease right away and draws her in with impressive and accessible storytelling, memorable characters or an original hook. Una enjoys writing which expands her worldview, makes her laugh out loud or keeps her on her toes with its twists and turns. She welcomes submissions from debut authors and would be keen to read across a wide range of genres and styles. She is looking for literary, upmarket and book club fiction, and is always drawn to stories that explores the challenges and complexities of love and relationships in all its forms —within families, between friends or in romantic relationships. Una loves the way in which familial relationships are dissected in The Wren, The Wren by Anne Enright and the impact of the local community in Small Worlds by Caleb Azumah Nelson. She is always drawn to novels with a strong sense of community, whether they are unified by geography, culture, or in other unexpected ways. Una has always loved reading international and translated fiction and welcomes submissions from authors writing contemporary fiction that engages with cultures and traditions from around the world, such as in voices of the deities in Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi or the subversive tales of Sayaka Murata. She is not looking for children’s or YA titles, science fiction or high-concept fantasy, but is open to submissions from authors writing in the speculative fiction space, and books with fantastical or otherworldly elements, be that magical realism or supernatural horror, such as Mona Awad's campus novel with a twist, Bunny. Una would also love to read more writing that engages with the natural world and reminds us of the limitations of human understanding. In non-fiction, Una enjoys books that furthers her understanding of wider societal issues — nature and the environment, culture, and little-known history. Her recent non-fiction favourites are Eve by Cat Bohannon, Doppelgänger by Naomi Klein and Unearthed by Claire Ratinon. Una would like you to submit a covering letter, 1 page synopsis and the first three chapters or 5,000 words of your manuscript in a single word document. He grew up in Newcastle upon Tyne and studied French & Italian at Queens’ College, Cambridge. After completing an MPhil in Comparative Film & Literature, Steven lived in Paris, where he worked as a university language assistant and a freelancer for various scouting agencies. He joined Eve White Literary Agency in 2021. Steven reads fiction and non-fiction of all kinds. The non-fiction books he loves most often shed light on under-represented perspectives, communities and histories, while in fiction he seeks novels which might explore new ideas, challenge the reader or play with style, form, character and/or plot. Above all, he likes writing which has a sense of purpose, and likes to be taken by surprise. Items on Steven's wish list might include: Fiction (Adult) : Crime/thriller – might be regional or with an unusual hook/high-concept. Might have a speculative element (think Stuart Turton). A spy thriller appeals. Cosy crime with an original setting/protagonist is also welcome. Literary fiction – worlds, characters, perspectives and histories which haven’t been written about before. Might be formally or stylistically innovative (but with a sense of purpose that links back to the story/characters). Historical fiction – themes and ideas relevant to our current moment are on the list. Might be revisionist. Romance – contemporary: either very heartfelt, cosy, perhaps with older characters. Or, spicy, funny, tapping into current trends. Horror – on the literary end, perhaps with a folk tale element. Fiction (YA) : Thrillers Romance Fiction (MG) : Fun, historical adventure exploring contemporary issues. Might be tied into the national curriculum, though without being didactic. Quirky detective/mystery series. Funny and warm-hearted family-/relationship-based drama with a strong voice. Non-fiction : Voice-driven narrative non-fiction ; memoir ; big ideas. Most of all, Steven just loves to be taken into a world and surprised by what he reads! Steven would like you to submit a short covering letter, 1 page synopsis and the first 5,000 words of your novel in a single Word document. (In addition to the paid sessions, Steven is kindly offering one free session for low income/under-represented writers. By popular demand, we are merging our two innovative conferences into a single Pyramid FUNctional Conference, Beyond the Basics for 2023! Gain all the latest information on BOTH communication and behaviour-related content. This year’s two-day conference, led by the co-developers of PECS® (Picture Exchange Communication System®) Andy Bondy, PhD and Lori Frost, MS, CCC-SLP will be held virtually on October 16th and 17th, 2023. Day one will focus on the Pyramid Approach to expanding and refining communication skills. Lori Frost will kick off the conference with a presentation on ethical collaboration. Next, an entire talk is dedicated to teaching commenting skills. Critics sometimes falsely claim that Pyramid focuses only on requesting skills – so, here’s your chance to learn about how to expand communication skills to incorporate creative and meaningful commenting opportunities. The first day of the conference will conclude with the debut of a new talk that focuses on implementing strategies to expand communication skills for learners who have some speech. Day two of the conference will focus on a variety of topics related to the conditions under which behavior occurs. The conference will begin with a look at implementation of the Pyramid Approach to Education® around the globe. Participants will leave with fresh ideas to incorporate small programmatic changes that make big differences in creating effective educational environments. Next, our team will explore how prompts are used in everyday life with all new information related to assessment of prompt types for specific learners within carefully designed lessons. The conference will conclude with a full presentation on error correction with Dr. Andy Bondy providing new insights on the topic. Register for one or both days of the conference and learn why Pyramid continues to be the recognised leader in educational and communication innovations!
