The HSA is an independent registered charity, founded in 1911. It is the only UK charity concerned exclusively in the promotion of the humane treatment of all food animals worldwide in markets, during transport, at slaughter, and killing for welfare reasons and disease control. Growing numbers of people are interested and concerned about the welfare of the animals that provide them with food and the HSA has gained an international reputation for providing practical, science-based solutions to improve food animal welfare. The objectives of the HSA are: The promotion of humane methods of slaughter; The introduction of reforms in livestock markets (including transport facilities) where needed to prevent the suffering of animals. The HSA works to achieve these through providing: Technical information and advice on all aspects of animal handling, transport and slaughter. Training and education in humane methods of handling and slaughter of livestock for farmers, vets, abattoir staff and students. Technical and educational publications in a range of formats. Independent advice to governments, animal welfare organisations and the food industry worldwide. Visits to farm animal handling and slaughtering facilities, recommending and advising on improvements where necessary. Funding and support for essential research and other projects aimed at improving animal welfare during transport, in markets and at slaughter. Assistance with development and application of scientific advances into the working practices of the meat industry. The HSA's work has resulted in many significant improvements for food animals around the world and many of the reforms it has promoted in transport, markets and slaughter are now taken for granted. Significant improvements continue to be achieved through working constructively alongside agricultural, meat industry, veterinary and other welfare and professional organisations. By Sensei Kevin Allmond 3rd Dan Hakuda Ryu Karate Senior Instructor & Technical Director - Budokai Karate Member of the BMABA (Pictured right) Every instructor at Budokai Karate realises that the martial arts is not simply about kicking and punching, but more about encouraging physical fitness, self confidence, self discipline and ultimately achieving a set of goals that we look to achieve together. We genuinley believe that in developing an individual both physically and mentally, they will reap the rewards in every aspect of their lives and it's because of this we are dedicated to not only producing excellent martial artists but outstanding members of the community. Budokai simply means "many styles" and as can be seen from the instructor profiles below, the main instructors all come from different backgrounds. Martial Arts are all essentially the same as there are only so many ways to perform a kick or a punch, however, there are subtle differences between styles which help people of varying abilities to perform each technique. With the wealth of experience that we are now gaining as an organisation there are very few techniques, if any, that can't be taught to people of any level. Whether they saw it on the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, on the Power Rangers, or on Yu Gi Oh, children today have been exposed to martial arts from an early age. From karate to kung fu, martial arts provide a powerful workout, but some parents worry that these sports are too violent for children. While it is true that martial arts originated as fighting systems in Asia, today's martial arts provide children with physical exercise, a chance to gain self confidence, an opportunity to interact with others, and worthwhile lessons in self defence. For children of all ages, martial arts are an exciting alternative to more traditional sports. We teach karate, or empty hand, which is perhaps the most well known martial art. Karate is a Japanese discipline used for self defence. In addition to throws and blocks, karate also incorporates punches and kicks as well as weapons. Karate competitions take place at all levels across the UK, and more information can be found from the British Karate Association. No matter in which martial arts your children become interested, all martial arts build confidence, encourage self control, motivate self esteem, and teach self defence. Martial arts are also incredibly safe when taught in an appropriate school, and all qualified instructors will be more than happy to share their qualifications and training philosophies. Finding the right school for your child could well be the first step to a long love affair with the martial arts.

The Huddersfield Town Foundation was officially launched in July 2012 by then Huddersfield Town Chairman, Dean Hoyle. The launch of the Foundation created further initiatives to benefit young people across the Kirklees community, such as trips to the Play-Off Final games at Manchester United’s Old Trafford (May 2011) and Wembley Stadium (May 2012), with almost 2,000 children attending. These trips offered families a rare opportunity to create lasting memories and enjoy the game free of charge, with tickets and travel paid for through fundraising activities such as bike rides from Huddersfield to Wembley, the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge and ‘It’s a Knockout’. With a remit of improving the lives of young people across the region, the Town Foundation created the ‘Early Kick-Off’ Breakfast Club initiative to ensure that children started their learning day in school with a healthy and nutritious breakfast. The first breakfast club launched at Christchurch Academy in July 2012, with the charity harnessing the football club’s unique position within the community to pull together several charitable businesses to provide this at no cost to the children. The Foundation now proudly facilitates 41 Early Kick Off breakfast clubs across the region and has served well over two million breakfasts to local children. In April 2016, Julian Winter was appointed Chief Executive of Huddersfield Town. With a strong background in football club community operations, and after setting up community departments at Sheffield Wednesday and Watford, Julian was keen for HTAFC to have a strong and thriving community programme, which complimented the existing community offer. In December 2016, the Foundation’s Memorandum and Articles of Association were expanded to reflect a new focus on empowering ‘ONE CLUB ONE COMMUNITY’, irrespective of any protected characteristics. In addition to fundraising activities, the Foundation turned its focus to five key areas: Trust; Sport; Inclusion; Education and Health. In an unforgettable display, David Wagner led Huddersfield Town to victory in the 2017 Championship Play-Off Final and promotion to the Premier League. Working in collaboration with the Football Club, the Foundation has gained access to funding from the Premier League, which has dramatically changed the landscape of our reach within the local community. As demand has grown for products and services, so too has the staff body. The Foundation now employees over twenty staff. The staff team has since moved from working at hot desks dotted around the Club’s training ground, the Millers Oil High Performance Complex to our own office facility situated within Leeds Road Sports Complex. The Huddersfield Town Foundation now strives to use the power of the Football Club to engage, inspire and have a positive impact in our local community. We feel we can have the most impact in four key areas: Learning & Education, Health & Healthy Behaviours, Safe Spaces & Places and Movement & Activity.
