Owners Maintenance Courses are ran on the first Tuesday of every month (subject to availability) and are designed for those who want to gain a very basic understanding of grooming and maintaining their own dog between professional grooming appointments. You will need to bring along your own dog to work on for the day. The course will cover: Correct and safe grooming procedures prior to bathing Safe and pain-free matt removal using appropriate products, tools and equipment Correct and safe bathing and drying techniques Nail and ear care How to safely maintain your dog’s coat between their salon visits. Students will receive all course materials and it is recommended that students bring along a camera for before and after photographs as well as pens, high-lighters and notepads.

The Emergency Fist Aid at Work is an accredited 1 day, instructor led course in a fully equipped training room. We use a mixture of training methods such as hands on activities, role play, group discussion, games and the use of equipment / technology to cover the different learning styles of the individual. All learners will have the skills and knowledge to provide the organisation with Emergency First Aider’s that can provide treatment to their casualties in a prompt, safe and effective manner. A range of subjects are covered including:- • Responsibilities and reporting • Resuscitation and AED awareness • Burns • Assessment of the situation • Anatomy • Choking • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty • Minor injuries • Epilepsy • Basic hygiene in First Aid • Bleeding control • Shock Certification Practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor, and a three year qualification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria. In addition, the HSE strongly recommend that all students undergo an annual refresher programme of three hours. Instructions Please can learners ensure they wear trousers and a full shoe. Learners need to be physically fit and well to undertake the activities for First Aid Training, which requires learners to carryout CPR on the floor. Tutor: Joseph Wilson During this 4-week course, we will use conventional black and white analogue materials in conjunction with non-conventional techniques to create images that stradle ordinary photographic representation and alternative vision. We will deviate from standard darkroom production through the practical exploration of a range of techniques such as Sabattier printing, bas relief printing, cameraless photography, and various methods for pushing and pulling film. These otherworldly techniques – many of which have been the basis for contemporary digital manipulation tools – offer abundant possibility for alternative photographic vision, where emphasis is placed on the transformative potential of darkroom work. This course would be the perfect follow up from our Intro to B&W or Colour Darkroom courses. All materials including photographic film and paper will be provided during this course. However, participants are encouraged to bring along some of their own black and white negatives. Camera know-how and prior darkroom experience are required for this course. Course Outline Week 1: Pushing and Pulling Film We will begin by considering non-conventional ways in which we can rate and process our films, and the various effects of doing so. Presentation and discussion on the uses of these techniques by artists. Shooting 5×4 film at various ISO ratings Using adjustments in time, temperature, dilution, and agitation to Push & Pull the film. Week 2: Possibilities in Print This week we will create prints from our negatives using alternative techniques. Review results in negatives and make contact prints. Sabattier effect printing Multiple exposure printing Bas Relief Printing Week 3: Cameraless Photography We will explore the possibilities of directly exposing through objects and ‘resists’ onto photographic paper. We will cover: Photograms Chemigrams Week 4: Lith Printing An introduction to Lith printing and the possibilities it affords us. General Guidance Notes for Pregnant and Breast Feeding Women and Asthmatics: From a risk assessment standpoint, provided all necessary control measures (such as good working practices, adequate ventilation, and the use of appropriate PPE) are in place then pregnant and breastfeeding women should be able to continue to work safely with photochemical products.Inhalation is the main route by which fumes and gases enter the body, making good ventilation a high priority. Exposure to irritant chemicals that would not affect most people may provoke an asthma attack in a person who already has asthma. For example, low levels of the gas sulphur dioxide can be produced by some ILFORD PHOTO processes. Most individuals would be unaffected but asthmatics may suffer adverse affects. ILFORD PHOTO products include no known human carcinogens, and no substances to which phrase R46 (May cause heritable genetic damage) or R64 (May cause harm to breastfed babies) applies. Most ILFORD PHOTO developers use hydroquinone, and their classification therefore includes R40 (Limited evidence of a carcinogenic effect) and R68 (Possible risk of irreversible effects). Some ILFORD PHOTO chemicals use boric acid or borates. These substances are classified as toxic for reproduction. As a result, the classification of some of the powder developers includes R60 (May impair fertility) and R61 (May cause harm to the unborn child).

Intense Pulsed Light or Laser Hair Removal. Hugely popular in the UK, this treatment leads the way in permanent hair removal. Salons around the UK command very good profits from a course of IPL or laser. In the 2000's, women have the opportunity to be hair free and this has led to an increase in the demand for hair free bodies. Certain cultures dictate that women be as hair free as possible and IPL allows for this. There are certain IPL machines in the market that are virtually pain free, making it possible for a woman to have a 'brazilian' or a 'hollywood' treatment. Please enquire if you wish to know more. How Does IPL Work The treatment involves the application of a focused, broad-spectrumlight (xenon), which is applied to the surface of the skin using a hand-held application head. Selective photo-thermolysis involves the process of the light, which travels across and within the range until it reaches the hair shafts or the root of the hair (the bulb). The bulb is usually where the highest concentration of melanin is located. The melanin is what determines our hair/skin colour and once this melanin has been destroyed there can be no growth. The IPL light is changes into heat. This will literally 'blow up' the root of the hair. If a hair has nowhere to grow with no hair bed, it cannot grow! This intense heat also destroys the papilla. IPL treatments will permanently reduce the total number of body hairs but will not result in a permanent removal of all hair and many factors can trigger re-growth such as hormones, menopause, pregnancy and medication. With an IPL treatment, the hair growth cycle has to be in Anagen (the active stage). The hair growth cycle differs on different areas of the body which is why we need to recommend a course! A- Anagen (active stage) C- Catagen (transitionary stage) T- Telagen (resting phase) As the hair growth cycle process can take between 4-6 weeks, this is why we recommend a client to return for their course every 4 weeks. It has the best track record. IPL & Laser has the best overall results (on large areas), versus any other method, in getting rid of hair for longer periods of time if not permanently. All skin types and hair colours can be identified. IPL (intense pulsed light) it does target pigmentation (this determines hair and skin colour), but an ND Yag Laser is not determined by the Fitzpatrick Scale. What is the difference between Laser and IPL Laser and IPL are identified by their wavelength which is usually shown in nanometres (nm). IPL systems are different to a Laser machine as they have a range of emissions. With the AATT Freeze 1 machine the range for hair removal is 640-1200nm (this is a ruby wavelength). For photo-rejuvenation the range is 540-1100nm (this is a green wavelength). The Poly lightbulb emits a range of wavelengths to appear as a flash of white light The Wavelengths are incoherent and travel in all directions with no order between them The High beam spreads out more rapidly than a laser beam The Focus is on a large area which reduces the risk of eye damage compared with coherent sources such as a laser beam. IPL is the abbreviation of Intense Pulsed Light. The machines have been widespread in use since the beginning of the 1990's. What is Microneedling & BioRePeel? Microneedling is a popular treatment in staying youthful.
