JasonPB (Jason Parnell-Brookes) is an internationally award-winning photographer, educator and writer based in Frome, UK. A qualified teacher and Master’s graduate, Jason was Highly Commended in the Mammal Society Photographer of the Year Awards 2013 before being named Digital Photographer of the Year 2014 for his macro work and winning the Gold Prize award for his portraiture in the Nikon Photo Contest International 2018-19, one of the world’s biggest photography competitions. His wealth of academic and real-world experience in a variety of photographic disciplines makes Jason the perfect photography educator, able to talk authoritatively on multiple subjects, as he did at The Photography Show 2017. In his decade-long career Jason has worked for big fashion brands like Superdry and Tu Sainsbury’s as both a photographer and retoucher. After many years in the fashion world he moved to publishing as an editorial photographer for multiple magazines including Prog Rock and Digital Photographer. He was a photographic adviser and writer for World of Animals, and became Technique Editor on N-Photo magazine where he worked for four years. He now contributes to web giants like Techradar, CreativeBloq and FStoppers. Jason also interviews Canon ambassadors for the Canon Europe website and is a guest trainer for Nikon School UK. He’s also shot and written advertising campaigns for London Camera Exchange and MPB. Jason has literally written the book on Nikon, Canon and Sony camera systems (e.g. The Nikon Handbook, The Sony Camera Book etc); and is a dab-hand at image editing having contributed to bookazines such as Teach Yourself Lightroom and Teach Yourself Photoshop. IDL was devised in the mid 1980s by educators working with the Starcross Educational Research Association. In 2012 a programme was funded by the Big Lottery called Lifting Barriers. This allowed IDL to be developed for use within a school environment in conjunction with SENCO leaders. Over a three year period IDL was placed in to 120 primary and secondary schools across the North West. IDL was required to show an increase in reading and spelling ages along with an increase in confidence and self-esteem for those pupils with dyslexia or dyslexic type difficulties. The results showed an average increase in reading and spelling ages of 11 months after only 26 hours use. Since its development for use in schools, IDL has gone from strength to strength with schools nationwide and overseas using IDL and demonstrating real improvements for pupils with challenging literacy needs.
