Learn Life Drawing for Beginners Workshop Saturday 29th June- 10:45-14:30 - Friends Meeting House, Manchester Welcome to our upcoming life drawing workshop for beginners. This is an opportunity for beginner artists to come together and learn new techniques and skills in capturing the human form from a live model. Because we believe that life drawing is an essential skill for all artists, whether you're interested in figurative work, portraiture, or any other type of art that involves the human body. During this workshop you will have the chance to practice drawing the human body in a variety of poses and perspective using different techniques. Our experienced instructors will guide you through the process, providing helpful tips on anatomy, proportion and composition and individual feedback to help you overcome any challenges you may face, so you can learn to draw the human figure more confidently and competently. We will be working with a professional life model who will hold a series of poses throughout the workshop. These poses will range from short gesture poses to longer, more sustained poses, giving you plenty of opportunities to practice capturing the human form in different positions and angles. All you need to bring is your creativity and enthusiasm to improve your drawing skills, and we will provide all the drawing materials required for this course. Please note that this is a nude drawing workshop, and attendees are to be 18 years or older. We ask that attendees under 18 years of age be accompanied by a responsible adult. This is to ensure that all participants feel comfortable and safe during the workshop. In addition, refreshments including tea, coffee and food can be purchased at the bar, however you are also welcome to bring your own lunch if you wish. The course will introduce you to some of the most enduring photographic portraits and provide discussion on why they remain so seminal. The course includes an introduction to lighting and composition techniques for portraiture, as well as providing guidance on shutter speed, aperture, lenses, and other visual controls. You will use studio flash lighting to explore basic techniques in formal and informal portrait photography – though all of the techniques taught are transferrable to natural and other lighting media. There will be time for participants to photograph under three standard lighting set-ups. Some digital SLR photography experience is recommended. Morning The morning session centres on discussion of the work of some classic portrait photographers and standard techniques employed. The discussions will include elements of composition, pose, gesture, format and technique. Afternoon The afternoon session will cover practical studio lighting, standard lighting set-ups, direction of sitters, and time permitting also a brief introduction to some of the editing capabilities of Adobe Photoshop. Project Days are designed for those who are already familiar with digital photography processes but who want to pursue a particular aspect or develop more specific skills in one or more areas. This course is the perfect follow-on from our Digital SLR training courses and will support you in building upon your existing knowledge of DSLR camera skills and becoming a better photographer in general. It will help you to work confidently on your own creative projects and develop the artist in you.   Courses are subject to minimum enrolment. Please register early, within five days of the start date, to reduce the likelihood of course cancellation. About this event A two hour sitting after which you will receive the completed portrait in oils on canvas or pencil on paper. The better you sit still the better the portrait. If you are buying this as a present for someone make sure they are aware of this. If you are not happy with the portrait you will receive a refund. Sometimes extra time may need to be spent on the portrait after the session. The completed portrait will be wet if in oils so will have to be transported carefully or can be left at the studio and picked up in a few days so it is easier to transport.
