Date: Monday 16th October Time: 4pm Location: Studio A Join us again for CFS Film Club, as this week we visit one of the essential independent films of the last decade, 2016's Best Picture Winner Moonlight. Barry Jenkins' tender masterpiece explores the LGBT identity within wider African-American culture, with stunning imagery, sensational performances and a wondrous score. Follow the story of Chiron, a teenager growing up in the Miami ghetto, dealing with his sexuality and drug-addict mother. Tickets are free to this event, and be sure to join us in The Landor pub afterwards to discuss the film together.

DATE: Thursday 9th May TIME: 4:30pm LOCATION: Studio A Following a very successful February mixer event, we are pleased to invite Point Blank Music School back in the Summer Term for an official Pitch Evening. The focus will be for final term CFS students to pitch their graduation film ideas to collaborate with music students from Point Blank. Pitching students should think about what style of music they are looking for and the style that would compliment their overall vision. We hope to have a good turnout and welcome back our friends at Point Blank Music School. Please be sure to book in advance if you want to come along to this event.

Would you like to add a persona touch to your old coat? Change a look of your favourite cardigan? Wearing a customised, handmade brooch could completely change your look so why not to join us for a 2-hour brooch making workshop, where you will learn very basic stitching and working with various upcycled fabrics including felt, tweed and tartan scraps. If you prefer to use your own materials or have some pieces of sentimental value you would like to use, you are more than welcome to bring them along. During this workshop, we will also touch on the theory of colours and how they can affect and change our moods. This workshop is led by Anna Baran, a trauma informed designer, artist, and maker based in the north of Edinburgh. She has always drawn inspiration from the sea, with her walks to local beaches, particularly Wardie Bay during the lockdown, becoming not only a source of new ideas for her artistic practice but also a way to gather materials such as driftwood, pieces of plastic ropes, and seashells. Anna has consistently sought to incorporate upcycled materials into her art, using her work to raise environmental awareness and promote art as an accessible medium for self-expression, regardless of financial circumstances. In addition to participating in various art exhibitions and fashion-related events, she has delivered a wide range of art and craft workshops to diverse communities across Edinburgh. This FREE workshop is for Adults women only and is sponsored by CORRA and HENRY DUNCAN GRANTS By attending this class you release Anna Baran, Giada Gaslini and Art and Spirituality Cic, from any liability arising out of any personal injuries, emotional or physical release, death, physical reaction, expectations of results, theft in the venue or damages that may happen to people and objects while attending. DATE: Tuesday 28th May TIME: 4pm LOCATION: Studio A Jordan Gifford is an up and coming writer, director and producer who will be coming in to give advice on looking for Freelance Film work. He will discuss his own burgeoning career, how he went from a runner to working in film locations, to being given the opportunity to produce his first feature film, all whilst also finding his own voice as a writer/director of dramatic short films. You will get the chance to ask him questions directly as well, and hear advice from someone who not too long ago was in your shoes exactly. Be sure to book in advance if you want to come along.

DATE: Tuesday 25th June TIME: 4pm LOCATION: Studio A One of the first and most-important British LGBT+ films ever made,  My Beautiful Laundrette helped open discussion about gay identity, and is also influential in its portrayal not just of an LGBT+ couple, but of an inter-racial couple as well. Daniel Day-Lewis came storming into the world of cinema with his role as Johnny, a hardened street punk hiding his true identity. Director Stephen Frears captures the mood and vibe of Thatcher-era London, creating a time-capsule of a distant world we're unfamiliar with. Book your tickets in advance.

Time: 4pm Date: 17th January Location: Studio A We're kicking off 2024 with a season of films by Greta Gerwig! First up, her heartfelt and nostalgia-laced debut, 2017's Lady Bird. Saoirse Ronan (in one of her best ever roles) stars as Christine 'Lady Bird' McPherson, an out-spoken teenager looking to establish her own identity away from Sacramento, where she's spent her whole life. At the same time she faces complex relationships with her mother, first love, best friend and home identity. We look forward to welcoming you all back to the CFS Film Club this year!

(4-6yrs) Mini Movers is an introduction to more structured ballet dance and movement based class. The session includes Ballet and an introduction to JazzPops. TRIAL BOOKINGS: Of course you are welcome to watch the trial class but following the trial, WhizzDancers are expected to be independent in the room. TERM BOOKINGS: You are welcome to watch the first class but following this your WhizzDancer will be expected to go in the class independently. You will be expected to provide full uniform. Details will be sent following. We have lots of opportunities ahead for your WhizzDancer including exams and shows. This is the question faced by Joel and Clementine, following their relationship and breakup, as they navigate their past together and whether they want to hold onto their memories of each other, from once happy times that have now turned painful. Don't miss the best film ever made about longing for someone you can no longer be with.

DATE: Tuesday 21st May TIME: 4pm LOCATION: Studio A The renowned and brilliantly-chameleonic actor Jason Flemyng is coming to Central Film School this month, and we couldn't be happier to have him. With an amazing CV including films and series such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Boiling Point, A Town Called Malice and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Jason will be talking about his career, how the industry has changed and giving practical, down-to-earth advice for our actors. There will also be an opportunity for students to put their own questions to Jason, so make sure you book a ticket and come along!

DATE: 30th January TIME: 4pm LOCATION: Studio A We are pleased to reignite Professional Perspectives in 2024 with a fantastic first guest, legendary British actress and multi BAFTA-winner Jessica Hynes. Jessica has acted in numerous critically-acclaimed series and films over a stunning career, including Spaced, Twenty Twelve, Doctor Who, Years and Years, Paddington 2, Son of Rambow and There She Goes. A celebrated screenwriter and director as well, every student at Central Film School will benefit from hearing Jessica speak, as she offers insight and advice from her time in the entertainment industry.
