Liverpool Hope University pursues a path of excellence in scholarship and collegial life without reservation or hesitation. The University’s distinctive philosophy is to ‘educate in the round’ – mind, body and spirit – in the quest for Truth, Beauty and Goodness. Liverpool Hope University is distinctive in that it is the only university foundation in Europe (and the USA) where Catholic and Anglican colleges have come together to form an integrated, ecumenical, Christian foundation. It has happened in Liverpool and nowhere else in Europe largely because of the presence in the 1980s of two remarkable church leaders: Bishop David Sheppard, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese, and Archbishop Derek Worlock, the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese that extends from Liverpool across the north of England. They confessed their faith to each other and took their congregations to visit each other’s cathedrals, a symbolic act of Christians working together in the context of northern Irish religious sectarianism. When the three colleges (St Katharine’s 1844, Notre Dame College 1856 and Christ’s College 1964) came together the name ‘Hope’ was adopted came from Hope Street that links both cathedrals - a living parable of what can happen when Christians unite and work together for the common good. This year we celebrate 175 years since the founding of our first college in 1844; in that year there were only six universities in England (two of them medieval) but all of them did not admit women, Catholics or Jews. The founding colleges of Liverpool Hope University were among the first few institutions to begin opening up higher education to the vast majority of England’s population. The Anglican Bishops of Liverpool, going back to the founding Bishop, Bishop Ryle, were all evangelicals. The friendship of the Anglican Bishop and the Catholic Archbishop was largely based on both their sharing of a mutual faith and their commitment to the poor. This adherence to historic Christian faith remains the university’s own commitment as it seeks to live out that faith in its life and work in a secularised British academy. At the beginning of each academic term we hold a Foundation Service to restate our foundational mission and values. Our Graduation ceremonies are held in alternating years in both the Anglican and Catholic Cathedrals in Liverpool.The new name of Liverpool Hope University was chosen to represent the ecumenical mission of the Institution. Liverpool Hope University was born in July 2005, when the Privy Council bestowed the right to use the University title. Research Degree Awarding Powers were granted by the Privy Council in 2009.

West of England Falconry (WoEF) was established in 2009 inspired by Director Jay Marshall’s lifelong interest in ornithology. WoEF is a registered charity dedicated to the well-being, education and conservation of birds of prey. “It was an experience similar to the ones we now offer the public which prompted me to learn more about falconry. After working with experienced falconers I started to develop a private collection and aviaries of my own. West of England Falconry started in 2009 and has subsequently been granted charitable status in 2013” says Jay. Experiences have always been well reviewed and continued to grow in popularity. WoEF received their first TripAdvisor certificate of excellence in 2015 and have done every year since and is now in the 'Hall of Fame'. In 2015 Naomi Johns met Jay and started working with him as a volunteer. Today Naomi now runs the centre alongside a brilliant team of staff and volunteers. WoEF’s work aims to benefit both wild and captive birds of prey through training and (very importantly) rescue and rehabilitation. Education, information and promoting and sustaining the art of falconry are also a high priority. Due to redevelopment proposals forcing relocation at short notice in early 2017, WoEF moved to Newton St Loe, where the local Duchy of Cornwall office supported us by providing larger premises. WoEF took full advantage of this opportunity and opened The Owlery in October 2017 with 15 more resident birds. WoEF received a Gold award for the Learning Experience of the year in the Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards in November 2017, and then went on to accept the Silver award for the whole of the South West. In April 2019, DEFRA granted WoEF a Zoo License, becoming Baths first Zoo, commending a high standard of animal care and commitment to charitable conservation and education activities. In November of 2019 West of England Falconry received a further four Bristol, Bath and Somerset tourism awards for the Small Visitor Attraction of the year, International Tourism, the Learning Experience of the year and for Accessibility and Inclusivity. 'We have come a long way in recent years, but we will of course continue to inspire visitors, to conserve, to work harder for a safer future for wild birds of prey, for the environment and for falconry' says Director Naomi Johns. I live and work in Solihull and am married with two boys. I have an obsessive love of sewing, which has driven my career through a wide range of sewing related experiences. I came from a family of sewers and from a very early age was encouraged to be creative. My love of embroidery and needlework led me to pursue a career in teaching. I attended a specialist needlework and home economics teacher training College in Liverpool. I always enjoyed "hands on work" and gained experience working with an expert team of fitting and alteration seamstresses at an exclusive dress shop the summer I finished at Liverpool. I wanted a creative career, so I applied for the position of wardrobe assistant at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. This was a wonderful work experience, sewing fabulous fabrics and making a diverse range of costumes. The theatre wardrobe mistress encouraged me to continue studying and I enrolled for a City and Guilds course. Although theatre working hours were long, they were flexible and I could study and work full time. I achieved merit for City and Guilds Creative Studies; two years later I received a distinction in Fashion and Design and won the year prize. My qualifications and experience opened another career opportunity in the fashion industry. I wanted to work fewer hours and the job I was offered provided training in production planning and buying. Working regular hours I decided to think again about the teaching career I had abandoned. I was employed by Birmingham Adult Education Department to work in evenings teaching Embroidery and Needlework. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching, so when I married and the family arrived I gave up full time work in industry. I returned to college, updated my teaching qualifications and became a part time teacher In the early 90's I wrote the Tailoring Programme for the West Midlands Access Foundation, later used by Open College Network. By 1996 I was determined to offer my own courses, now known as Gill Arnold Dressmaking Training. In 1997 I became Sewing World magazine's pattern specialist. Over 20 years teaching has given me a wealth of experience and knowledge to produce articles on patterns and fitting. I have also written for Sew Today and American publications. With the support of the sewing industry I enjoy being a regular exhibitor at shows all over the country including the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham. My yearly programme provides a full range of sewing events, exhibitions, seminars, cloth sales, trips and courses.

Hope is a belief that something will change for the better. This remains a solid mandate, and many people over the years can testify that their lives have changed when having the opportunity to be with horses. We look after horses, who through no fault of their own, require specialist care and attention. These include foals fostered from the Friends of the Dartmoor Hill Ponies Society. People who attend NLHCS with a range of mental and physical health issues, find comfort in the presence of these foals, who in turn benefit from being handled and loved. We provide art on prescription schemes at the sanctuary where people are welcome to participate in weekly workshops. Those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.These schemes enable those experiencing declining physical ability, chronic pain, carer stress, anxiety, depression and bereavement the opportunity to be involved in the arts. We have a new group ART2HEART Stronger Together for people who for whatever reason cannot attend the Sanctuary, those who are shielding, self isolating etc who can post their art work and receive tuition by phone, messenger and WhatsApp. We are also providing tuition for those who want to send artwork in the post. It took a long time for the herd to settle after the death of Patriarch Obe, however Fleur stepped into his shoes and is now the lead mare. Surprisingly Mattie and Fleur have become friends and Mattie has got used to being without his sparring partner. So much so, that Elsa was very much on her own and therefore we have recently adopted another small pony from Cornwall. Tinkerbell arrived a couple of weeks ago, she is a 3 year old Dartmoor Hilly and has quickly found her place A number of people have attended the Way of The Horse sessions with trainer Heather Seems and have been able to observe first hand how an ex racehorse is rehabilitated. Fleur is changing week by week as she overcomes her anxiety and coping habits. She is very quiet and loving. What makes me a stand out Coach is my own lived experience with an anxious-avoidant attachment style. I have lived & breathed the attraction to unavailable partners, fantasy relationships, obsessing, and losing myself in love. Behind my agonising relationship struggles is a story of multiple childhood traumas and heartache. From my first memory I was surrounded by violence, substance abuse, chaos, and unpredictability. Up until the age of 30, I was in an unconscious mission to fulfil my longing for attention, love, and to be chosen. I chased, crushed, settled, lost myself, drank myself to oblivion, embarrassed myself, lacked boundaries, and abandoned myself time and time again. Immediate pain would show up in my anxious attachment when I experienced any kind of rejection. I would become convinced I needed that person to survive. Deep abandonment wounds would be wide open and as a result, I would be left with a version of me that I couldn’t recognise. My avoidant attachment could be seen in the way I went into myself, got stuck in moods, had an underlying feeling of numbness and sadness, and avoided the inner work for many years. WAKE UP CALL My wake up call came at 29. The end of a relationship (that I had outstayed due to a deep fear of being alone), followed by the agony of dating unavailable guy after unavailable guy. Relationships fuelled by jealousy and a fear of this person realising who I truly am and leaving me. My own recovery has been a bumpy road. Self-help, coaching, therapy, relapses, and then getting up and going again. Through sharing my own journey it’s my hope that your recovery can be a bit smoother. My healing has seen me meet and sustain a healthy relationship. I see myself in this relationship sometimes like it is not me… those moments I’m no longer triggered, my ability to respond over react, the way I consider my things logically, and how I see myself almost choose the old path from time to time. It is my life’s work to pass on, teach, & guide what I know to be true, the methods I use, and give my support to people who are where I was then. So that in this lifetime, we can experience the love we deserved from the beginning. Because it was and is our birth given right to have our needs met, to be loved, and to live a full & safe life.

Our passion is to secure the rights and entitlements of the people we work with and for. We aim to make the cities we work in more culturally competent and better able to meet the needs of those vulnerable people who live there. We are also acutely aware of our perceived position of strength as a major provider of mostly BME services and we want to share our resources, knowledge and position of influence with smaller, grass roots organisations. Touchstone was born out of an identified need for friendship and community in South Leeds in 1982. A Social Worker, Sylvia Landells, and CPN, John Clare, saw that large numbers of vulnerable people were left isolated and distressed out of hours and at weekends, so they set up a “weekend club” which was to grow into Touchstone. More than 30 years later, we provide mental health and wellbeing services to over 10,000 people a year, whilst also working across communities to grow their confidence and capacity to demand the services and positive experiences they are entitled to. Touchstone provides a range of innovative services that improve health and wellbeing. Touchstone is strongly committed to equality, independence and choice.
