We are the Sex Education Forum. First established in 1987, we have helped support generations of educators and lobbied successfully for the introduction of compulsory Relationships and Sex Education in England. In April 2021 we established ourselves as an independent charity. As the voice of Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) in England we promote and protect the physical and mental health of children and young people by improving their access to RSE. We bring together our partners and wider stakeholders to share best practice, research, monitor the provision of RSE, explore and respond to new themes and identify gaps. Working together with our partners, members and wider stakeholders is central to everything we do. We support educators with high quality training, resources and a membership scheme, so they can be competent and confident providers of RSE, in partnership with parents, carers, children and young people. We gather international evidence about effective RSE and use this to inform policy and practice and to increase public understanding of the benefits of RSE. Established in 1987, the Sex Education Forum has a long history of influencing policy, that is grounded in the latest research and evidence, and supporting educators with resources and advice. After 34 years of being hosted at the National Children’s Bureau, we established ourselves as an independent charity in April 2021. After a four year degree studying French, German and Spanish - I decided the obvious thing to do next was teach English in Japan! Random - but I’m so thankful I made this decision: because it was my introduction to teaching and set me on the path as an educator. 3 years later, I trained as a yoga teacher in Scotland, before moving to Cornwall and deciding I wanted to be a Primary School Teacher. I wanted to share with kids so much about life and the world! Teaching was, admittedly, harder than expected. I loved elements but hated others. I’d always prioritised my health and wellbeing - but I found myself becoming stressed like I’d never experienced before. I know now that if I’d have continued to prioritise my own wellbeing, not only would teaching have been easier - but the children would have also benefited so much more. This is one of the key reasons Class Yoga is here: to raise the wellbeing of educators, so that the pupils benefit in turn. (Listen to more on this, here.) I believe we need to look after our own wellbeing to raise the wellbeing of our pupils I started to share yoga when I could. I got to see what worked and what didn’t; and I got a glimpse of some promising results. But when I left full-time teaching and started supply (and sharing more yoga) I started getting called back - to teach yoga! Because now the clear evidence, of greater calm and focus in children in the classroom after yoga, was shining out! So began my calling to teach yoga to more children, in more schools. Over this time, I developed and refined my method of teaching mindful movement to children, that I still teach and train others in, today. This book is an updated and expanded version of our popular “Interactive Computational Geometry - a taxonomic approach” ported from Mathematica to Python. It has some very useful extra material and greatly improved demonstrations and text. If you are not an experienced Mathematica programmer, you will find the Python code is much easier to undestand. In fact, when we made the port, we were delighted by just how simple and elegant the Python code turned out to be. We will no longer update the Mathematica version (although it will always remain available) and we consider “Interactive Computational Geometry in Python” to now be the definitive version of the text. Python is a great language for this sort of thing, and we hope and expect that moving to Python will make the book accessible to a much wider audience. We are very excited about this book! We have developed a complete process, including software, for creating long-form texts as interactive Jupyter notebooks and this book is the first result of our efforts. The course will focus on developing ideas and extending technical and artistic skills in design and stained glass execution. Students will be encouraged to experiment and learn how different colours and glass types work together and how to enhance your designs. NEW - Beginners Stained Glass Leading – Evening (Mondays) 19th September (6 weeks) to 31st October, 6.30pm - 9pm | £210 materials and tools included NEW - Beginners Stained Glass Leading (Wednesdays) 28th September (5 weeks) to 2nd November, 2pm - 5pm | £210 materials and tools included This Short 5-week (6-week evening) course is designed for newcomers and beginners. Whether you are a complete novice or would like to practice your skills, you will be guided through the steps and skills needed to create a simple stained glass panel using traditional leading techniques. You will be encouraged to experiment and learn how different colours and glass types work together. You will produce a final leaded panel approximately 25cm x 25cm using coloured glass. The course will cover basic panel design, creating cutting template, selecting and cutting from a beautiful range of coloured glass, leading, soldering cementing and finishing techniques. One-Day Workshops An Introduction To The Colourful World Of Traditional Stained Glass One Day Workshop 9.30am – 5pm | Saturday 24th September | £145 This one-day taster course allows you to experience making a piece of traditional stained glass as a 20cm square panel to take home. This is a practical course, you will learn the basic construction process: cutting glass, putting a panel together with a lead, soldering, cementing and finishing. Professor of Clinical Traumatology, Sir Keith Porter is involved in the treatment of some of University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust’s (UHB) most complex injury cases. He trained at St Thomas’ Hospital in London in the 1970s before being jointly appointed at the Birmingham Accident Hospital and Selly Oak Hospital in April 1986. He was awarded a professorship by UHB, the University of Birmingham and the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine in 2005 and was knighted for his role in developing trauma treatment for injured British soldiers in 2010. I am proud of the achievements from the robust civilian-military partnership between the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham and the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine, during the last decade. There have been significant advances in pre hospital care with critical care interventions and blood delivered by the MERT team and the introduction of haemostatic resuscitation and damage control principles in Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, such that patients have progressively survived more severe injuries in the last decade particularly as the IED have become more sophisticated and destructive. Birmingham has responded and moved forward the boundaries of continued resuscitation, wound surgery and surgical reconstruction using concepts and techniques that are not in war textbooks and have required bespoke and innovative solutions. Landmark advances have included debridement strategies, proactively managing the continuing inflammatory response, defining and understanding complex microbiological challenges including fungal infections and devising bespoke surgical solutions particularly for soft tissue loss. Integral to improving functional outcome has been our close working with Headley Court. Clinicians have worked closely with DSDL, defence research and the NIHRSRMC to come up with solutions to the research questions these complex patient generate. With several hundred unexpected survivors from recent campaigns, QEHB is proud of the part it has played in the chain of care and is working with the RCDM and defence medical services to capture the lessons learnt in what will be a live and evolving document.
