London

Kendrick School is an 11-18 selective girls’ school with academy status. Since 2003 Kendrick has enjoyed the benefits of being a specialist school in Science, Mathematics and Languages; this ethos of specialism is reflected across all subjects including English, the Arts and Humanities, Music and Drama, Computing and Technology. In February 2011 Kendrick became an Academy. Over the years Kendrick has built and maintained an impressive record of the highest academic standards and achievements. It is now acknowledged as being amongst the very best state schools in the country. Kendrick is proud of its superb reputation and also the opportunities it affords its students to participate in an all round education where their thirst for knowledge and love of learning is nurtured in a secure and caring environment. Kendrick aims to celebrate and value the traditions of the past and the challenges of the future. The school combines the virtues of a traditional grammar school while confidently embracing modern approaches to teaching, learning, technology, management and leadership. As an outstanding school, Kendrick seeks to work with other schools and organisations and to this end we have excellent relationships with secondary and primary schools within the local area and beyond. Kendrick actively pursues partnerships with educational establishments as well as with local businesses. These associations benefit the students of Kendrick and also enable us to share the good practice and opportunities we have with other schools and students in Reading. Currently Kendrick is a hub school in the Science Leadership Partnership in the South East of England and provides support and expertise to schools in the teaching of Science. Kendrick is also part of the Reading Teaching School with Churchend Primary School.

A very warm welcome to Valley College, situated on Ewood Campus. I am delighted to be Head of Valley College , an educational environment which is focused on its mission statement 'Preparation for Adulthood, Citizenship and Employment' (PACE). It is so important to ensure all learners gain the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy, independent lives, and become informed, active and responsible citizens in society. Having been appointed as Head of Valley College and Ewood Campus in September 2021, I would like to share some information about the provision for Valley College learners. Valley College learners are supported by skilled and familiar staff and alongside their advocates, create a bespoke individualised pathway to ensure future aspirations are achieved. Learners are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities across and beyond the curriculum, contributing fully to the life of the college and their communities. Learners have the opportunity to reflect on their experiences and understand how they are developing personally and socially, tackling many of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing into adulthood. Within Valley College, learners are able to develop new skills and access the community, and sessions are focused on preparing learners for adult life. Valley College ensures all learners leave with relevant qualifications (if appropriate) and gain their desired aspiration destination. We work together with our learners to increase their independence, so they can take more control over their lives. Valley College is a friendly place where learners can develop interests and gradually gain the skills and confidence they need to move on to the next stage of their lives, preparing them for adulthood, citizenship and employability.

Canbury School Limited

canbury school limited

Canbury is a happy, purposeful place of personal discovery for students aged 11 to 18. The ethos of the School is that great minds do not all think alike and we have established a reputation for delivering a first class, personalised education to students of all academic abilities. Excellent progress is made here because every young person is treated as an individual. Our recently opened Sixth Form provides the opportunity for students to continue to benefit from Canbury support in preparation for adult life and we are delighted to see them go on to university or college. However, the journey is just as important as the destination and so, from the outset, we focus on the whole child with emphasis placed on emotional and social development as well as academic achievement. We are committed to ensuring that our students are prepared for the future – able to step forward to take their place in the world. In our last inspection, it was noted that, “Pupils throughout the School persevere to solve problems supported by teachers and learning support assistants who establish high expectations and promote a ‘can do’ attitude”. As a relatively new school, founded in 1982, Canbury is able to adopt a progressive approach to teaching and learning, taking our cue from best practice and research. This ‘clean slate’ means that we are not hidebound by tradition; rather, we are able to create the most meaningful opportunities for our students, led by their strengths, needs and skills. We are proud of our broad curriculum, the wide range of qualifications we offer and the support we are able to provide through small group teaching and, where appropriate, specialist therapists or learning support assistants. All of this is delivered by dedicated and expert staff, underpinned by an exceptionally strong pastoral approach that places the young person’s wellbeing front and centre.

London

In education, teachers often refer to a moment when they see something ‘click’ for a child; the exact moment where a concept is understood, an imagination is lit or an idea is formed. Create Learning Trust is a network of academies committed to giving children and young people moments like that in their education. We embrace innovation, share best practice and shape opportunities; creating an environment that sparks and ignites the talents and interests of our staff and students. To achieve this, every member of our community is committed to: Working together to provide the best quality of education Encouraging innovation, self-belief and confidence Acting with a moral purpose and with integrity Our Principles After looking at the strengths of our schools, and reviewing number of successful MATs, as well as analysing issues for MATs who have faced difficulties, Trustees have created a list of principles that will underpin the trust. The trust will be made up of Trustees who know our schools and our communities and/or have specialist skillsets Every academy will retain a Local Governing Body and as much responsibility as possible will be delegated to them Each school will retain its own individual identity and ethos. We want Create Learning Trust to be the sum of different, complementary parts, that work together to create a strong and supportive environment We will, however, look to share ideas and best practice to reduce teacher workload and embrace innovation Our Trust is committed to supporting and recognising the contribution of all staff make, and is focused on job retention and creation We will be innovative in how we ensure we get value for money from contracts and also, in the future, generate income to support our schools. The focus will always be on how we can invest our resources to maximise the benefits for our pupils.
