Here at Bluecoat Wollaton we are all treated as equals: we are a family. Our teachers are amazing because they guide, support and encourage us to do our best both in and outside of lessons. They always help us shape our future and are always there when we need advice. Like us, they work hard and are very kind but, equally, their expectations of us are high and they challenge us to get to the best universities. Wollaton is a place where we learn and study but it is also a place where we make long-lasting friendships. With the warm atmosphere at break and lunch it’s a great place to socialise with our peers and there are a wide variety of clubs you can join too. Although together we are a Bluecoat family, we, as students, feel individually valued and we are able to express our unique personalities through enrichment, which takes place before school, during lunch and after school. Bluecoat Wollaton also provides numerous other opportunities, such as taking part in sporting events and university workshops to name just a few. A collaborative approach In order to capture the voices and views of as many people from across the City community as possible, including staff, students, alumni and partners, City launched its most collaborative and consultative strategy development process to date. Over 2,000 members of City’s community took part in the innovative stakeholder engagement programme, sharing over 13,500 ideas and contributions through a series of in-person and online staff sessions, focus groups, workshops, a student engagement day and the interactive and anonymous online platform, the Big City Conversation. These were compiled to produce the draft vision and strategy outline which was approved by City’s Council in Spring 2022.

The idea for Community First came to mind in 2015 when we began to be approached by individuals and local organisations who were being supported by the good Samaritans and Volunteers who ran them. Because of their self identified lack of digital skills, they felt they were not being able to fully benefit the organisations they were supporting. Something as simple as emailing, sharing information or reaching their most isolated members was an area that was causing great concern. This was a need we could see and luckily one we could most definitely meet. We then began being asked for similar help but on a commercial level by small and start up-businesses. Because we wouldn’t take any kind of payment, we started to receive boxes of sweets, biscuits and bottles of wine. Whilst this was very generous, it wasn’t too good for our waistlines or general health!! So when we were offered a donation towards future support we might give to others, a sort of Pay it Forward idea, CommunityfirstUK was formed. We went on to register as a Social Enterprise limited by guarantee in 2016 where any profit our organisation makes goes back into other projects allowing us to support more people and organisations, not just with digital but with needs they have that we can help with.

The Inclusive Bangladesh Development (IBD) is the one of the intelligence supporting Build Bangladesh. It has commenced its journey by investing in human capital. IBD is based on the strong foundation of social empowerment, economic entrepreneurship and environmental sustainability works demonstrated by the Impress Group through their media stream Channel I over last 16 years. Their impact based works on agriculture, awareness of health and hygiene among young girls, campaign supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) and social entrepreneurs, nurturing and rewarding creative and talented young children, men and women as gateway to the entertainment industry, supporting disadvantaged children and young people to become future leaders, basic skills development for girls from remote villages and developing educational games to promote ‘spirit of Bangladesh’. In addition, it has also been influencing government policy through its ground breaking media journalism and issues based discussion forums. IBD has a not for profit role nurturing and promoting skills development (e.g. vocational education and training), social entrepreneurship and awareness programs all over Bangladesh. It will operate countrywide and will be politically and denominationally neutral. It will create opportunities for corporate sectors, global Bangladeshis and individual investors to invest in human capital in Bangladesh through various best practice models such as Social Impact Bonds (SIB), Social Impact Investments (SII) including Corporate Social Impact Investment (CSII).

We work in STEM - the Science and Technology areas anyway. These industries are some of the fastest-paced industries in the world and it’s an honour and a privilege to play our small part in helping progress the education of individuals in the subjects. Our training courses are built with the future in mind whilst ensuring that all our delegates are given a solid grounding in the basics. We have included businesses in the course development, and they are taught by our own industry experts. In Science we have made use of Labster to give delegates a virtual laboratory to “work” in and explore. Our technology courses service a global audience, we are an official Preferred Plus Partner for RDK which gives us access to some of the largest technology organisations in the world. We utilise this fabulous knowledge base to ensure everything we get involved in is truly pioneering.
