We genuinley believe that in developing an individual both physically and mentally, they will reap the rewards in every aspect of their lives and it's because of this we are dedicated to not only producing excellent martial artists but outstanding members of the community. Budokai simply means "many styles" and as can be seen from the instructor profiles below, the main instructors all come from different backgrounds. Martial Arts are all essentially the same as there are only so many ways to perform a kick or a punch, however, there are subtle differences between styles which help people of varying abilities to perform each technique. With the wealth of experience that we are now gaining as an organisation there are very few techniques, if any, that can't be taught to people of any level. Whether they saw it on the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, on the Power Rangers, or on Yu Gi Oh, children today have been exposed to martial arts from an early age. From karate to kung fu, martial arts provide a powerful workout, but some parents worry that these sports are too violent for children. While it is true that martial arts originated as fighting systems in Asia, today's martial arts provide children with physical exercise, a chance to gain self confidence, an opportunity to interact with others, and worthwhile lessons in self defence. For children of all ages, martial arts are an exciting alternative to more traditional sports. We teach karate, or empty hand, which is perhaps the most well known martial art. Karate is a Japanese discipline used for self defence. In addition to throws and blocks, karate also incorporates punches and kicks as well as weapons. Karate competitions take place at all levels across the UK, and more information can be found from the British Karate Association. No matter in which martial arts your children become interested, all martial arts build confidence, encourage self control, motivate self esteem, and teach self defence. Martial arts are also incredibly safe when taught in an appropriate school, and all qualified instructors will be more than happy to share their qualifications and training philosophies. Accounts practices come naturally to Sue and she is continuing to teach all the office staff her accounting methods. She is still very much involved with managing and overseeing the office systems and administration on a weekly basis remotely although she no longer has direct contact with clients. Niki Rathkey Accounts Administrator and Order Processing Niki has been with GLS for two years now and handles all our day-to-day accounts and order processing. It is a busy desk, but Niki is always on hand with a smile to answer any accounting queries that you may have. She is like a magpie when it comes to our shiny products and uses a lot of them in her stone painting and interior projects. She has also built up a sound knowledge about how our products work and will answer most queries related to this. Niki has a strong background of secretarial and administrative skills and has previously worked for a variety of Accounts practices. Isabel Barriga Brown Accounts Assistant and Order Processing Isabel is a new starter for GLS who joined us in October 2021 but has quickly become an indispensable member of the team. Together with Niki they are the accounts team that keep our day-to-day orders ticking over and our records straight! She is very creative and artistic and helps a lot with our social media ideas and creative projects. Again, Isabel loves trying out the projects in her own home and is also learning to gild. She’s our social secretary and makes sure we get together outside as well as inside of work. Adam Rees Technical and IT Adam has worked at Gold Leaf Supplies for around 10 years and during that time he has built up a very good technical knowledge about the products and their uses. He is happy to answer any technical questions that you may have. He is very patient and interested in the challenges that customers projects often present. He will always go out of his way to find a solution and is interested in testing new products and applications. Adam also has responsibility for the Website and all our internal IT requirements. Ralph Davies Warehouse Manager Ralph has been with GLS for over 8 years and takes care of all the goods inwards, stock control and order despatch. Ralph is meticulous and methodical which is a good thing in a busy warehouse. He runs a very tight and organised ship and is a real character! Nothing is ever too much trouble! He always goes the extra mile to make sure your orders are packed well and despatched on time. Fred Govani Warehouse Assistant Fred is Sue’s husband and since taking early retirement during lockdown he comes into the Company part time to help out in our busy warehouse. Due to his previous and extensive work experience he also has a valuable input into logistics and systems practices. Debbie Rees Colour sampling coordinator. Debbie is Steve’s wife who also runs an online homeware store called Elsie Boo Collections. She helps out at GLS by preparing all of our Gold leaf and other metallic materials shade cards that our clients find so useful to have in their workshops or to show their own customers to help them make colour decision choices. Debbie makes sure that we are all stocked up with these and also helps us keep on top of office filing.

Doreen Hoppe had always known that her passion for ice skating was there to stay. She started skating at the age of 9 and at 21 turned professional and began coaching. During her years as an amateur skater, she concentrated on all disciplines; figures, free and dance, whilst obtaining the necessary qualifications to progress into her career as a coach. As a teenager Doreen decided to focus on ice dance, skating in National and International competitions. She competed in British Junior and Senior Championships and was also part of the British team to compete Internationally. As Doreen’s career in coaching started, she knew that she was fulfilling her dream in the skating world, which went from strength to strength. In later years she found her niche coaching dance couples both nationally and on the international circuit. She very much enjoys the aspect of choreographing dance routines, whether it be for competitive skating or shows. Doreen has also travelled extensively throughout Europe with her couples to gain an insight into how other European coaches approach different techniques. Alongside the coaching, opportunities came her way within the TV world, appearing in various programmes including: BBC1 Strictly Ice Dancing, as a judge alongside Craig Revel Horwood Sky Sports Living for Sport Iceland Commercial ITV Anglia; teaching news presenters how to skate in 6 weeks Gok Wan’s How To Look Good Naked, where she choreographed a dance routine NISA TV, commentary at the British Championships 2009 and more recently at the Junior Grand Prix, Sheffield. Over recent years, Doreen trained to become a Technical Dance Specialist due to the IJS system replacing the 6.0 system. Having successfully completed this, she then went on to Frankfurt, where she qualified as an ISU Technical Specialist. In recent years she has officiated in many National and International events. Doreen organises and runs the Coaching Assessment days with on and off ice workshops. She is currently coaching at Lee Valley Ice Centre where she is still living out her passion for skating, passing on her vast knowledge to other aspiring skaters.

I have had an interest in Art for most of my adult life and having never studied it at school I was nervous of taking up any classes so late in life. However, by chance whilst trying to find local art classes I happened to stumble upon Back Room Art and I sent an enquiring email. From the very first communication Heather put me immediately at ease and gave me the confidence to go to my first class. I joined a wonderful group of people. Heather works well to ensure we are all included in the lessons, working at our own pace and with projects and materials we feel comfortable to use. Heather’s inspiration, openness and motivation have given me a confidence in doing something I never felt capable of doing. Our works are encouraged and praised and Heather’s communication with everyone is brilliant to ensure we all get something out of it. She listens carefully to our aspirations and helps us to achieve them with advice, suggestions and with realistic goals. The facilities we work in are relaxed, friendly and well stocked with all the artistic materials you could wish for, giving me a chance to use resources I would not generally have tried out at home on my own. OUR STORY Our Story Macarons & More is the passion project of one man: Tim Kinnaird. Tim originally trained as a doctor and worked as a consultant paediatrician in Norwich. Although he loved his job, his passion for food was a thread that ran throughout his life – and when he was given the opportunity to explore it further, everything changed. As a contestant on MasterChef 2010, Tim caught the nation’s attention with his gentle manner and showstopping desserts. MasterChef judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace had spotted his ability for creating exquisite patisseries, and so did the public. Within six months, the business outgrew Tim’s house. #TeamMacaron was formed to cope with the growing demand and quickly grew to a nine-person operation once production moved to a kitchen in Watton, Norfolk. Expanding the team has brought in a whole range of additional skills and personalities. Macarons & More has been growing ever since. In 2011 we launched online, meaning we could deliver our delights throughout the UK. Then in March 2013, our beautiful shop opened in Norwich’s Royal Arcade. By 2014, it was getting tricky to meet demand both in the shop and from our wholesale and online customers. Don’t get us wrong; it was a very nice problem to have! With the support of our fantastic sponsors, including Belling, Magimix and Kenwood, we opened our new central Norwich bakery in January 2015. Now, we can cook up even more treats than ever. Our bakery is also where we run the very popular Macarons & More Cookery School. Led by Tim and the Macarons & More team, our classes are informal and hands-on, helping keen amateur bakers learn new techniques and recipes in a fun environment. In September 2018, we opened a second shop in Norwich’s busiest shopping mall: intu Chapelfield. As well as the support of our amazing customers, Macarons & More has received local and national acclaim. We won the Beautiful Baking category in the EDP Food and Drink Awards in 2013, and we were runners up in the Observer Food Monthly Awards in the Independent Retailer category in 2013, 2015 and 2017.
