To see the day in action see our Instagram post here DURING THIS DAY SESSION YOU WILL… Learn how to prepare copper before enamelling. Understand how to fire enamels to the right temperatures to create attractive results. Practice how to sift onto copper to create an even surface to be able to decorate it. Explore and practice sgrafitto and stenciling enamelling techniques. Learn how to draw onto enamelled surfaces using graphite pencils. Learn how to wash enamels and use them to paint patterns onto enamelled surfaces. Understand the principles decorating metal with enamels and the processes of firing enamels at the correct temperatures to achieve specific effects. You will be shown a series of demonstrations throughout the day and can try all of the techniques demonstrated or you can decide to concentrate on a particular technique – this is your ay to explore enamelling and the vast potential it offers. Please note, this day is not focussed on working on finished designs or working with silver. Enamelling takes time to learn and explore. You will be working with a series of copper blanks – some of which have holes so you are able to slot them onto earring hooks or place a jump ring on them for a pendant if you are pleased with your sample. The aim of the course is to introduce you to the techniques and processes and for you to experiment and put into practice what you have been shown, not to create finished designs at this stage, this will be something you can work towards once you have gained some experience. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: None, all abilities are welcomed. We support you throughout the session and provide demonstrations to show you the techniques and steps needed to create your project. CLASS SIZE: 6 WHAT IS INCLUDED? All tools and consumables are supplied. We will supply copper sheet for your samples, but please feel free to bring along any pierced designs you might have of your own or anything you would like to experiment with. YOU WILL BE PROVIDED WITH: Copper sheet is supplied. WHAT TO BRING: A sketch book – to note your practices throughout the day, especially important for those who would like to recreate their samples again at home or on future occasions. If you want to bring along any silver to experiment with, you are welcome to do so. Please wear closed toe shoes – no sandals or flip flops as you will be working with hot metal and tools. Please bring along any lunch, snacks and drinks for the session. We have tea and coffee supplies you are welcome to help yourself to but make sure you bring enough refreshments and supplies to keep you going during the day. The inclusion of children with Down syndrome - expectations of behaviour By considering the learning profile of a child with Down syndrome and looking at areas of need this one day course will aim to address areas where difficult behaviours may develop. It will look at expectations, appropriate behaviour, including self help skills and go on to outline positive strategies by focusing on wanted behaviour.

Sterling Silver Bangle Workshop For Complete Beginners. A day to learn some basic silver jewellery making techniques and create your own bangles. Learn to use basic tools and techniques to form and texture, hammered or waved bangles to completion. Going home with beautifuly finished items of jewellery. The ticket price covers the cost of tuition and all precious and non precious practice materials. Whilst soldering experience is not necessary, a basic understanding of soldering and forming metal would be advantageous, enabling you more time to focus on your design. However, we practice simple soldering techniques, for those with little or no experience. To ensure that all abilities are catered for. On the day you will design and make gorgeous sterling silver bangles. You will be guided through a variety of techniques. You can choose from a variety of designs to make two bangles. You can choose to make hammered textures, using small specialised hammers. Twisted wire bangles. Waved or plain round bangles or a combination of two designs. If you wish, these can be joined together with a large jump ring. Price includes all precious materials, practice materials & instruction. We also include light refreshments of hot and cold drinks with plenty of cake and biscuits throughout the day. Please note, this ticket is your deposit and is non-refundable unless the event is cancelled. Let’s make it visual — using visual resources to develop the language, communication and literacy skills of children with Down syndromeThis 3 hour course will cover why the written word is used as a visual tool to develop language skills. Methods to develop clarity of speech, grammar, vocabulary, and lengthen sentence utterance will be discussed and illustrated. It will also detail visual timetables, conversation diaries and ideas to develop reading, writing and spelling skills.

Teaching basic number skills to children with Down syndrome and other learning difficulties using the Numicon approach. Basic number skills are vital to enable everyday social inclusion and independence. The training will commence with an overview of the learning profile of a child with Down syndrome; exploring working memory and how this impacts on learning numbers. It will detail how children learn basic number skills – recognising numbers, saying number names, counting to find ‘how many?’ and early hands on addition. It will explore the challenges faced by children who have Down syndrome and other learning disabilities and demonstrate how the use of Numicon as a visual representation of number can help to overcome these difficulties and lead to increased understanding and confidence.

This is for current term time or summer term time students only. Our workshop is equipped with everything a jeweller could wish for. You will have your very own solid jewellers workbench to work on to complete your projects and your own tool kit meaning you won’t have to wait for tools. Your bench is also equipped with its own pendant motor. In the workshop you will also find soldering equipment on each bench, a wide range of professional stone setting tools for various stone setting styles, a wide range of hand tools, texturing tools, a rolling mill, a hydraulic press, polishing equipment, dapping tools and punches, all of which will allow you the chance to create your designs within a professional setting. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: You must be enrolled on our term time class or summer term or have experience. CLASS SIZE: 7 WHAT IS INCLUDED? All tools and consumables are supplied Please bring refreshments The cost of this course does not include materials. WHAT TO BRING: For safety reasons, during each class, you are required to wear appropriate footwear, we request that no open toed shoes are worn within Workshop 925. Long hair should also be tied back when working with the equipment. You may also wish to bring a notebook. We have handouts for many demonstrations, but there are always many tips and tricks given verbally by the tutor, which some might like to keep note of.
