Behavioural Educational Services was established in 2000, and is now celebrating 13 years of home & school programme success, during which we have worked in partnership with families, local authorities, educational professionals, and national children's charities For the past 13 years, BES has provided CABAS® based early intensive interventions designed to increase the skills and abilities of children and young adults with special needs through the systematic use of applied behavioural analysis (ABA). ABA has a proven record of success with individuals with a diagnosis of autism and ADHD, as well as developmental, communication, and behavioural disorders. Early intensive intervention provides children with special needs the greatest possible chance at future mainstreaming, while also helping them achieve their highest intellectual, social and emotional potential. BES designs and supervises ABA home and school programmes that are based on theories of development and learning that focuses on variables that are observable, while also proposing a flexible research methodology that can benefit all children. Behaviour analysis benefits equally from its assessment methodologies, which emphasise factors that maintain or influence a child’s behaviour, as it does from its intervention procedures, which focus on the quality of implementation, effectiveness and social validity of the programme. In addition to our ABA work, BES are providers of Fast ForWord®, a learning acceleration programme based on over 30 years of neuroscience research, that helps develop the cognitive skills required to enhance learning. Strengthening these skills can result in a wide range of improved critical language and reading skills such as phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, decoding, working memory, syntax, grammar, and other skills necessary to learn how to read or to become a better reader. Fast ForWord® includes several training programmes that are individually adaptive and interactive computerised language-learning programmes that incorporate the latest neurological research in brain plasticity. These intensive, computerised programmes are designed to help leaners increase the rate at which their brains can process auditory information, which then enhances abilities in communication, reading, writing, and spelling.

However, all of our activities are ‘open to all’, and we welcome everyone to participate. We currently have several projects to promote mental wellbeing. Please see below to learn about the projects and visit their respective websites. KIRAN Legal - Free Legal Help This is a pilot project by KIRAN Cymru. We help financially disadvantaged BAME members in Wales by offering free legal support (Benefits, Housing and employment) and interpretation/translation services in Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Sylheti, Punjabi and Gujrati. Please visit, kiranlegal.co.uk for more information. Friends in Need - Befriending Service This is a pilot project by KIRAN Cymru. Since March 2020, we have been helping BAME people in Cardiff with their day-to-day needs, i.e., grocery shopping. We also ring elderly community members regularly to keep in touch and overcome loneliness through our befriending service. Our ‘Friends in Need’ service helps BAME people in Wales to connect with other people and fight social isolation. Our Communities Our Strength - Wellbeing for BAME People This is a project by KIRAN Cymru. This project started in March 2021. We aim to combat the adverse effects of COVID 19 pandemic by creating regular and structured opportunities for BAME community members to connect with each other through virtual meet-ups, games, and cultural activities. We offer various opportunities for all BAME people in Wales to connect with other people in virtual social meet-ups, e.g., book clubs, bridge clubs, learning musical instruments, e.g., Piano and Tabla. There is also a community musical group for you to join. As a part of this project, we have started an English Online Magazine called Story Cloud. All community members are encouraged to take part in creative writing. KIRAN Cymru offers free guidance and training on ‘Creative Writing’. It is a beautiful skill and can improve the confidence and self-esteem of the writer. Please get in touch with us if you want to take part in creative writing. Story Cloud will publish the selected short stories, poetry and feature written by community members. Apart from the above, we offer other befriending services for local communities. In the 1950’s there were over 50 native species of bee in the UK, yet just a few years ago there was just 27. In the past few years honey bees have experienced more substantial declines. The UK used to be home to 27 species of bee, yet sadly 3 of these are now extinct with many more under threat. Bee Worldwide has been established in direct response to the growing number of declining bees. The goal is to identify the reasons for the decline and work towards rebuilding the ecosystem that is vital for the bees to regenerate their colonies. PreviousNext 123 This programme has several aims: to raise awareness of our current situation to educate the importance of bees replant foraging areas that are fundamental to the survival and reforming of bee colonies complete and promote research which targets understanding the impacts bees and other pollinators have and the effects of their current and future environment has on them. take action to reverse any negative impact which has already occurred. Bee Worldwide primary focus is to promote individuals and other groups to help bees in their own communities by planting some bee-friendly plants in their gardens. We will extend this to finding donated land and use volunteers to plant flowers in these areas. We also hope to set up a franchise model to become a bee keeper under our own brand, and this will include training, equipment and advice etc. Our research will be world leading and we will also collaborate with universities who are also working in this field of study. This will include monitoring bee movements with trackers (little backpacks) bee counting and many more scientific experiments. With the results, we can see if we can reverse any of the issues and help promote these messages so others can assist with the issues. Over time, Bee Worldwide will create a learning environment that will be an invaluable resource for bee keepers and an aspiration to the public and the community at large. Bethany also studied at the Royal Academy of Music for her Masters alongside being accredited a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music in Singing Teaching. Whilst a student at the Guildhall, Bethany performed in various concerts at prestigious venues such as the Barbican, Wigmore Hall, Royal Albert Hall and began recording as a soloist and ensemble member with Delphian Records.. Since graduating from her Masters, Bethany has performed professionally with companies such as Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Scottish Opera, D'oyly Carte, Norwegian National Opera, Iford Arts, English National Opera Works, Grange Park Opera, Opera Holland Park and Wexford Festival Opera. Bethany has spent most of her career singing classical repertoire, opera and crossover musical theatre. She has been lucky enough to have travelled to New York, Norway, Italy, Dubai, Austria, Prague, Germany and France with her performing and coaching work. Bethany has also extensively toured the UK in national touring productions. Bethany has a portfolio career and when she is not performing onstage, she records sung voiceovers, teaches voice and holds a vocal massage practice. Bethany is experienced in Bel Canto, SOVT and Accent Method Techniques and is always expanding her knowledge on contrasting vocal techniques and styles. She is a fully insured member of Musicians Union. Bethany is based in Olney, Milton Keynes, UK and is a singing tutor at Emil Dale Academy. Bethany holds a small in person private practice at Olney Music School alongside teaching online. Since the covid pandemic Bethany has been able to reach new clients through her informative social media reels on vocal massage and vocal technique. She has been able to teach students online across the world, recently allowing her to hold a pop up coaching and vocal massage practice in France. BEMIS is the national umbrella body supporting the development of the Ethnic Minorities Voluntary Sector in Scotland. BEMIS was established in 2001 to promote the interest of minority ethnic voluntary organisations, develop capacity and support inclusion and integration of ethnic minorities communities. It is a member-led and managed organisation with an elected board of directors. The major aims and objectives of BEMIS are to represent and support the development of the ethnic minority voluntary sector across Scotland, and to support the diverse communities and individuals that this sector represents, especially those who are under- represented and disadvantaged. BEMIS aims to address inequalities by empowering communities, working towards an inclusive society by establishing structures, which recognise diversity and empowers ethnic minorities, and ensuring that they are fully recognised and supported as a valued part of the Scottish multicultural civic society. Initial Key aims and objectives: To strengthen the capacity of the ethnic minorities voluntary sector. Raise the profile of the ethnic minorities’ voluntary sector and its needs at strategic, local and national levels. Have a coordinating role for the voice of the ethnic minorities’ voluntary sector, ensuring pertinent issues are raised with the relevant bodies. To take a lead on policy issues and debate which are of concern to minority ethnic communities at both local and national levels. Key Strengths Of BEMIS as identified in the HMIE review: a highly committed board of directors and staff who brought with them a good range of professional skills and a clear understanding of their responsibilities; the organisation had been successful in uniting a diverse range of stakeholders; BEMIS was highly valued by stakeholders and was making a positive impact on individuals, organisations and communities; strong commitment to inclusion and diversity; and strong commitment to ensuring grass roots organisations have a voice rather than acting as a spokesperson for EM communities. Their commitment to capacity building ensured that local projects were self sustaining and no longer required significant support from BEMIS staff The comprehensive range of accredited training opportunities offered including a BA in community regeneration and HNC working in communities ensured EM people in local communities had the skills to better engage with local structures and partnerships Managers and staff at BEMIS were highly motivated, energetic and committed to the purpose of their work. They worked very effectively as a team, providing high levels of mutual support. The very strong commitment of BEMIS to diversity and inclusion was reflected in its diverse membership. Participants in the professional development courses came from a range of ethnic backgrounds The organisation had made very good efforts to target specific communities with its work, and to involve them in its management the organisation was not fully capitalising on its excellent work. It should develop better means to communicate and celebrate its successes so as to raise its profile. There is a strong commitment at both board and staff level to ensure that the diverse voluntary sector and communities this sector represents are fully recognised and supported as a valued part of civic society and a multicultural Scotland. BEMIS enjoys a high proportion of fundamental Strengths that are essential for the development and delivery of our role and remit. The opportunities for developing and delivering our strategies and objectives are ample and remain to be explored and exploited to the full in support of the diverse EMVS as well as government policies and initiatives around equality and social justice. Within the above context, BEMIS has and continue to be a major partner in supporting the equality agenda in Scotland and in supporting the diverse communities within the framework of equality, diversity and a cohesive multicultural Scotland.
