Azadi Trust was founded in 1991 by Dr. Robin Fisher, a GP working in Sparkbrook, Birmingham, as a Christian outreach to the large number of drug users in the area. From these early beginnings Azadi has followed the vision that ‘Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Freedom’ (2 Cor 3:17) which remains our ‘strapline’ to this day, some thirty years on. The surgery and the drugs work had closed by the mid-1990’s, but the Charity remained and in 1997, with the support of the local Anglican church, Christ Church, purchased the old surgery building. This building is now known as Azadi House. In the early days, the ground floor of Azadi House was the base for activities such as a youth club and a homework club, mainly run by Christ Church members but designed to be accessible to the local community; subsequently the Trust supported projects, such as ‘Bright Sparks’ mother and toddler group and ‘Azadi Tigers’ football team, which operated away from its base. On the basis of these early experiences we don’t seek to ‘set up projects’ but rather to ‘follow what God is doing’ and actively support Christians in the inner-city who want to set up or who are already actively running projects, people who have a vision (and warmth and enthusiasm) to reach others with the love of God but do not want the distraction of establishing a structure to accommodate their vision and who would rather just ‘get on with the job’. Hope Garden Project, who have been part of Azadi for over 10 years, are an example of this.

The administrative positions she has also held -IB Diploma Programme Coordinator and Head of English- inform not only her understanding of contextual and pedagogical implications for the teaching of English for both students and teachers, but also the impact of secondary education on raising internationally-minded global citizens who will continue to learn, earn and contribute to a sustainable future for all. Anna has a passion for reading, for learning that challenges expectations and curricula, for asking searching questions, as well as for strategic thinking for educational institutions. She is the author of several academic papers in Theoretical Linguistics and her most recent writing project being the Oxford University Press English A: Literature Course Companion for the new IB Diploma Programme curriculum (first teaching 2019). I joined WEST because I believe passionately that we need to actively change women’s perception of STEM careers – and men’s perception of women in engineering! Some of us feel we don’t have the knowledge and ability, others among us don’t have the time to research and prepare the material needed to teach our children and yet others are afraid that they may teach something incorrectly or use inauthentic material. We aim to help change that, in sha Allah. We should all be able to help teach our children in an engaging and fun way. What better way to bond with your children than doing something which is pleasing to Allah? The St Bernadette Centre has recently undergone significant refurbishment and investment. Students have exclusive access to a group work room on their study day which doubles as a social space at break and lunch. All Sixth Form students study Core RE across their two year career with us and complete the Extended Project, applying Catholic Social Teaching to a moral and ethical issue of their choice. Whilst we believe in allowing greater freedom to our students, we strive to have a true partnership between students, parents and tutors. Excellent pastoral care is provided by experienced tutors who advise, encourage and monitor student progress. The Duke of Edinburgh Award remains a strong feature of our school into the Sixth Form. The award gives students the chance to experience physical activities, volunteering, whilst developing life skills through expeditions; it is valued by universities and employees alike. During May half-term, Sixth Form students join the annual Diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes to care for and assist the sick and disabled pilgrims. So, who are Copycast Studios and where did it all begin? Take a look at the timeline below to see our journey... 2005 Dean & Natalie made the first mould of their newborn baby's foot in their kitchen using some leftover body-casting material that Dean was using for a replica movie prop project. After copies are given to relatives, positive feedback sparks a new business idea. I 2006 With research and a business plan, Dean & Natalie stumble across a vacant shop at Hatton Country World. Copycast Studios opens it's first premises in April 2006, leaving their salaried careers behind. I 2008 Shop premises closes. However, a steady growth and a customer-base covering The West Midlands, The Cotswolds, Birmingham, Worcestershire and Warwickshire (and occasionally other areas) sees the mobile baby casting service launched instead. I 2009 Copycast Studios starts making their own line of shadow box frames and keepsakes including personalised giftware. I 2010/11 Ebay shop opens selling DIY casting kits, box frames, casting materials and other keepsakes. Orders start coming in and we are sending parcels all over the country and even abroad. I 2019 After taking a back seat in place of other projects, a re-launch is planned that includes a new website focussing on casting services and DIY casting kits. I 2020 Copycast Studios continues to grow an online presence with shops on Etsy, eBay, MadeMe and the launch of the new website. I The future... With the outbreak of COVID-19, it's clear that the way we interact with each other and shop will change forever. Therefore, we'll adapt and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to create a beautiful keepsake of their own with more and more DIY casting kits and socially-distanced casting sessions.
