Breaking Barriers A world junior sprinter, Steve went on to play for the England Blind Cricket team. He trained with Aston Villa, then fulfilled his lifelong ambition by leading his English blind football team to the World Cup. Steve then set himself an audacious challenge: to become the fastest blind man on the planet. He powered to 2 world speed records on land and sea, then took to the air and found international media fame as the world’s first blind pilot. Steve does have one handicap in life: golf …he plays off 54. The Inspiration As an international speaker, Steve inspires & motivates businesses, organisations and the education sector both nationally and internationally with audiences of all ages. His deeply-moving story takes audiences on his journey from despair to success. His core message is that anyone can break barriers; that the path to true success is in your mind, and not your ability or environment. A witty, humorous, entertaining and painfully-honest speaker, he makes people laugh and cry. A genuine man, Steve sees no disability in his total lack of sight, but takes pride in sharing true vision, which many sighted people fail to recognise.

Corby And District Sub-Aqua Club (CADSAC) was formed in 1979. We are a member of the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) – the worlds largest scuba diving club, and are based in Corby, Northamptonshire. With members coming from not only Corby but all the surrounding towns and villages, CADSAC caters for both people wanting to learn to Scuba Dive and for already qualified divers looking for a friendly club. We provide our Members with quality training and varied diving throughout the UK as well as more adventurous and exotic diving abroad. Club Night We meet every Monday Night from 7.30pm in the Stewarts & Lloyds Cricket Club Pavilion, Cannock Road, Corby (just off Occupation Road near the old Stars Night Club). See Map Of location With different rooms within the pavillion our experienced Instructors teach new and intermediate divers the skills required to get in the water to have a safe and enjoyable dive. For one hour per week throughout the year between 9pm to 10pm we train at Corby International Swimming pool. It is used for novice training, checking new kit options, snorkel sports or just swimming. With the adjustable depth of the floor it makes the ideal place for novices and experienced divers train. Other Club members plan their upcoming diving expeditions, share their experiences or just catch up with a beer! Equipment To get you started the club has a limited amount of dive equipment which is available to borrow. The kit is intended for pool training use only, but due to the high cost of kit many new ‘club divers’ borrow this equipment for open water use for up to a year, whilst they decide if diving is the sport for them, or they become able to purchase their own equipment. Air fills are available for all club members from our own compressor and air bank. This handles up to 300 bar air cylinders, or up to 232 bar for 02 clear cylinders.

I’m Matthew and I’ve been helping my students succeed at school and university since 1992, including over 13,000 hours of one-to-one tuition to over 400 students. My philosophy is: more than higher grades. I teach A level Maths and Further Maths, A level Statistics, and A level Physics. At GCSE level I have worked very successfully with students aiming for a grade 6 and above. I also help undergraduates on courses with mathematical content, such as Economics and Business Studies. My focus is on achieving high grades through understanding the material. I tailor my approach depending on individual needs and interests and I believe in making the subject as simple and enjoyable as possible. I am enthusiastic, friendly and approachable. I really want my students to succeed and I’m very happy to be contacted for help outside of their lesson time. I was recently invited by Talksport Radio to be their “maths expert” to speak on the topic of coin tossing, in the context of determining who bats first in a cricket match. You can read a fuller version of what I said here. UCAS + OXBRIDGE ADVICE It is not enough simply to do well at A level, of course: students need to be given the tools to succeed at university. To that end I take a very full interest in their education generally. As one student recently put it, I am “so much more than just a maths tutor”. For example I give guidance and support with university entrance, including the UCAS personal statement, applying to Oxford and Cambridge, and interview preparation, and I have personal experience of working in both the legal and accounting professions. I’ve written a detailed guide for university applicants: Writing your UCAS personal statement. ACADEMIC HISTORY + TEACHING EXPERIENCE I have an outstanding academic record and over twenty-five years experience as a teacher and examiner, during which I’ve received excellent feedback from my students and their parents. I have tutored over 400 students in Harrogate: that’s over 13,000 hours of one-to-one teaching since I started tutoring in 2006. FEES My fees are £220 per month, which covers four one-hour lessons and ongoing continuous support and help outside of lesson time. I do whatever I can to help my students succeed: I’ve even answered messages from a frantic student at midnight, and I’m always happy to talk to parents and guardians. Sheffield is a rural, contributing primary school with a decile rating of 9. The roll is stable, and has ranged from around 85 - 110 pupils over recent years. There are 5 classes, and the teachers are supported by support staff. The school is situated 60 kilometres west of Christchurch, nestled among the foothills of the Southern Alps. Lakes, rivers, ski-fields, national parks, Christchurch and countless other recreational activities are less than 30 minutes away. The school grounds are extensive. Ongoing landscaping and property initiatives have developed further native bush areas and places for the students to work and play. The school buildings comprise five traditional open plan classrooms. A library, an administration area, learning support room, an adventure playground, a sandpit, and a new resource building complete the permanent fixtures. The school is well resourced in all curriculum areas. Particular emphasis in recent times has been the development of high quality ICT equipment. Each classroom has access to a television, a large number of laptops and iPads and a learning management system. Special needs assistance has been built into the school budget. Teacher aides and part-time teachers work with individuals and groups of children for short blocks of time, sometimes withdrawing children, other times working within class programmes. A number of children have ongoing resourcing for individual special needs and have part-time teacher or teacher aide assistance funded by the Ministry. Teachers implement programmes which extend and challenge children of all abilities.Support services attend the school regularly. These include the Public Health Nurse, Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour, Speech Language Therapist and other specialists. The school P.E.A.K. values are at the heart of everything we do at Sheffield School. As a result, relationships between students, staff, board and parents are positive and the school enjoys fantastic support from the Sheffield community. The Board of Trustees and PTA are very proactive, supporting a wide range of initiatives which benefit the students. Parents are involved in many aspect of the programme including PTA, fundraising, sport, camps, transport, classroom programmes, library and options programmes. The children are a pleasure to teach. They are well supported from home and come to school keen to learn. There are very few behaviour problems in classrooms or in the playground and bullying is not tolerated. Children’s interests are broad and include athletics, swimming, tennis, cricket, netball, rugby, soccer, hockey and basketball. Keas, Scouts and Guides are operating in the area. There are many cultural activities available including a dance school, speech and drama clubs, gymnastics, art classes and various music tutors. Sheffield School maintains close ties with the other schools in the Malvern district, coming together regularly for sporting and cultural events. The school has recently participated in ICTPD project, as part of the Malvern cluster of schools. ICTPD (Information and Communication Technology) is a Ministry of Education funded initiative, which offers exceptional professional development opportunities to those involved.

Recently, on the occasion of 203rd Bhanu Jayanti, the school concluded the Golden Jubilee Year, thus, creating history and extending its legacy further. His Excellency the Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, Mr. Masashi Ogawa was the Chief Guest of the program. It is a co-educational and English medium school, catering for children with the age group of 3 (Nursery) to 18 (XII class), as well as college level students. The school follows modern methods of teaching having recently installed smart classes and CCTV cameras. Background In 1995, the school opened a higher secondary level. Ermysted’s is an ancient grammar school, founded over 500 years ago. It was long believed to be William Ermysted who founded the school some time before his death in 1558 but research in 1948 revealed an earlier history, dating back to at least 1492 and possibly earlier to 1468. So William Ermysted was in fact the school’s second benefactor, the original founder being Peter Toller. Peter Toller Some time before his death in 1492, Peter Toller, who was then rector of Linton-in-Craven and Dean of Craven, founded in Skipton Parish Church the Chantry of Saint Nicholas, to which he attached a Free Grammar School to educate the children of the town. In 1492 according to his will, the Chantry School received all his lands and tenements in Skipton, Addingham, Eastby, Draughton and Hellifield, together with a sum of money to pay for ornaments and repairs. When Henry VIII initiated his reformation of the church, the Chantry of Saint Nicholas was dissolved and its lands appropriated by the Crown, although the revenues of the school were continued. William Ermysted William Ermysted had been a prominent figure in Henry VIII’s London, as Canon of St Paul’s, “clerk of the King’s Chancery” and Master of the Temple. On the 1st of September 1548 William Ermysted’s re-foundation deeds for the Chantry School were executed and on 12th December 1551 the deeds were enrolled on the Close Rolls. Essentially these documents recorded the lands which he wished to present to the School in order that it be supported in the future and also advised a system of management, with a teaching regime according to the majority of classically based grammar schools of the time. William also endowed the school with the Chapel of St. James, late of the Knights Hospitaler of St. John, purchased from Henry, Earl of Cumberland in which to house it. The building survives to this day at the bottom of Shortbank Road and current houses an electricity substation. William and Sylvester Petyt Between their respective births in 1637 and 1640, and their deaths in 1707 and 1719 William and Sylvester Petyt both played important roles in the development of the school. On his death in 1707 William Petyt bequeathed a sum of £200 towards the maintenance of Scholars of Christ’s College, Cambridge for those students who had previously been Scholars of the Free Grammar School of Skipton-in-Craven. In addition he gave £50 to the School, which was subsequently used to purchase books for poor scholars. When William’s brother Sylvester, also a former Scholar of Ermysted’s, died in 1719 he left to the School the huge sum of £30,000 to form the Petyt Trust. This still provides for various educational functions, including some Speech Day prizes, although the bulk of the capital was used in the nineteenth century to endow Skipton Girls’ High School. Sylvester also delivered to Skipton the Petyt Library comprising of books from his own collection as well as from those of his brother and friends. Edward Hartley The legacy of the School’s founding fathers and benefactors survives in the three School Houses of Toller, Ermysted and Petyt but the fourth House, Hartley, takes its name from the School’s Headmaster during the period 1876 to 1907. Under Edward Thomson Hartley, Ermysted’s moved from the Chapel bequeathed to it by Ermysted to its present Gargrave Road site. Originally thirteen boys made the move in 1877, but under Hartley’s dynamic leadership the School flourished and added to the original School House the Gym and Pool, the Science Department, Staff Study, and the Craft Workshops. Ermysted’s in the 20th Century In 1913 £1,000 was given by friends of the School to improve the Playing Field, and in 1920 the School Library was built, funded by Old Boys, as a memorial to those Scholars who fell during the Great War. In 1946 an appeal was made to provide a worthy memorial to the Old Boys of Ermysted’s who lost their lives in the Second World War. Numerous Old Boys, Governors, pupils, parents, members of the Staff and other valued friends of the School generously contributed upwards of £17,000 towards the cost of the Memorial Hall, the Organ and the alterations to Big School, the Coulthurst Trust paying for the Organ outright when the Hall was opened in 1959. Throughout its history it has been an all boys’ school and only relatively recently, in 1989, was the boarding house closed. Quincentenary Celebrations In 1992 Ermysted’s celebrated 500 years of excellence, in commemoration of the Quincentenary of the death of the Chantry School’ founder, Peter Toller. The year’s celebrations were marked by a visit from the Princess Royal on the 1 June. To commemorate the Quincentenary a Sports Hall was erected between the School and cricket pitch, opened on Speech Day 1994 by Sir Peter Yarranton, Chairman of the Sports Council. £350,000 was raised toward the cost of this venture through the generosity of pupils, teachers, parents, Old Boys, Governors and friends of the School, with the balance met from Foundation Funds. Founders’ Day is held annually in the Autumn Term with a service held in Holy Trinity Church in Skipton commemorating the foundation of the School over five hundred years ago. Building Developments In 2001, the School was successful in a bid to the DfE to provide new CDT facilities and additional classrooms (designated for the English Department). Aided by additional finance available to Voluntary Aided schools, together with a generous donation from the Wolfson Foundation, the former CDT facilities were turned into two additional science laboratories. At the same time, four of the present six science laboratories underwent considerable refurbishment.

He has also been privileged to work in the jewel house at the Tower of London restoring The Grand Punch bowl made in 1830 and used by the Royal family on many occasions. Stephen is one the most respected jewellery & silver polishers and is currently is teaching polishing across Europe and is known affectionately as “The Gold polishing Guru”. He has polished and restored many famous silverware pieces including the Americas Cup; Cricket World cup, Wimbledon Cup, Dubai Gold Cup, Premier League Cup. He has also been privileged to work in the jewel house at the Tower of London restoring The Grand Punch bowl made in 1830 and used by the Royal family on many occasions. Also known for polishing the largest pure gold coins made by the Royal Mint the largest being the James Bond 7kg pure gold coin. He is a fellow of the Institute of Professional Goldsmiths (IPG) and their official ambassador and a Master of The Dutch Guild of Goldsmiths. He shares his trade skills by teaching nationally and internationally including at Goldsmiths Centre, School of Master Jeweller’s Birmingham and VanTol & Breet Academy (Netherlands), The School of Jewellery Dublin & The Design & Craft Irish Craft Council in Kilkenny, Vannilla Ink, Aka_bespoke Manchester, Sheila Fleet in Orkney, Patrick Mavros in Zimbabwe and Mauritius. Stephen is a Freeman of The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths’ and was granted the Freedom of the City of London in 1975. If you’re in the industry, he needs no introduction but for anyone who hasn’t heard of him, he is a master of the polishing craft with over 50 years experience, his client list past and present includes, Asprey, Garrard, Theo Fennell, Hamilton and Inches Crown Jewellers of Scotland, The Royal Mint, The Royal Society. He has polished and restored many famous silverware pieces including the Americas Cup; Davis Cup; Wimbledon Cup and the Premier League Cup and he has also advised the Tower of London Jewel House on the upkeep of their silver collections. He also judged the polishing section of Goldsmiths craft and design awards.You can get a glimpse of what he does on his instagramWHAT HAPPENS DURING THE MASTERCLASS?First, Stephen will talk about his career giving you an insight into the makings of a master craftsman. Then he will demonstrate just why he is known as master polisher. After this demonstration you will be guided by Stephen to try and replicate what you have been shown in the demonstration.After working through a few more exercises you will set to work on your own jewellery, receiving guidance on not just how to achieve the finish you would like for your jewellery but to reach a standard of finish you didn’t know you could.These Masterclasses are a great opportunity to learn from someone who is:a) A true master in our tradeb) Not a grump or condescending because you don’t know somethingc) Happy to chat and share his knowledge!All you need to bring is some of your own jewellery (around 6 items) at the point where it’s ready for polishing.You will have a spindle that is yours for the duration of the masterclass, mops, materials etc will be provided. It can be a messy business so make sure your clothing is workshop friendly!You will also have full access to our workshop, benches, tools and equipment if needed.This Masterclass will leave you with the knowledge and skills to take your polishing to a highly professional standard.EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: This class will benefit jewellers with some experience who are looking to learn to polish their work to a professional level. Our small classes mean we are able to provide each student with the support they require. CLASS SIZE: 6 WHAT TO BRING: For safety reasons, during each class, you are required to wear appropriate footwear, we request that no open toed shoes are worn within Workshop 925. Long hair should also be tied back when working with the equipment. You may also wish to bring a notebook. We have handouts for many demonstrations, but there are always many tips and tricks given verbally by the tutor, which some might like to keep note of.
