Hi, I'm Stephie (not Fred), An embroidery artist and creative based in Manchester. I'm inspired by the natural and the man(chester) made, and passionate about encouraging others to explore and express their creativity. I LOVE running workshops and sharing the joy of stitching and creating with others. I want people to leave a Hoop & Fred workshop feeling better than when they walked in and empowered to create. Maybe they’ll fall head over heels with embroidery as I did, or perhaps they will simply feel better for having spent a couple of hours trying their hand at something arty and leave feeling confident enough to try other new things.  All my workshops are suitable for beginners. I  ensure everyone gets the time they need to ask questions, and they leave with all the materials and knowledge required to finish their project at home.

Upbeat Academy Foundation was founded in late-2012 in memoriam of two lost friends — Winter Circle Productions’ Jeff Milne (26) and MCP Presents’ Patrick Edwards (31) — seeking a dual purpose of immortalizing their memory and serving the community. Each young man was a stable in his local community’s music culture boasting an infectious creativity and positivity that motivated dozens of friends to find their passion. Over the years, Upbeat Academy has been grateful for the ability to honor Jeff and Patrick’s legacy and families by empowering young people through the power of modern music education.

Equally important to artistic creation is the team’s passion for encouraging, inspiring and enabling the next generation to engage with & participate in the performing arts. Not just for those with an easy pathway; we have actively worked to bring down the barriers that prevent participation, helping those who might not believe they have a place in the arts to find their voice.  The iPAN team is extremely excited to explore creativity in our local community, and to develop skills and techniques with young people drawn from this community.

The arts can help foster a sense of self and identity and create space for expression, reminiscence and learning. Creativity can help foster connections in new and varied ways, making it a powerful tool in dementia care, and in creating and sustaining relationships. Symptoms of dementia often result in progressive changes to cognition, memory or ability for individuals. These symptoms may mean a change of communication needs for both those living with dementia and those who support them. There is a lack of accessible creative resources available to people living with dementia and we want to change this. We aim to provide access to effective creative arts activities that build connection, identity, confidence, and joy. We have experienced the magical moments that occur when people are enabled to express themselves creatively, and we want to empower you to make magical moments of your own.

We have worked with our consortium partners over the last 6 years to carve out a role in East Lancashire, the wider county of Lancashire as well as nationally and internationally, as a cultural development agency that was previously lacking. We have increasingly developed our programming to address the needs of the communities with whom we work, to become a key strategic partner that works with organisations, artists, residents and local authorities to spotlight and enhance the cultural reputation of East Lancashire. Our two key long-term projects – the Pennine Lancashire Linear Park and the British Textile Biennial – are two of only a small number of core projects detailed in Lancashire County Council’s recently published Cultural Investment Strategy. These two core programme platforms bring together and elevate our embedded, long-term projects across our communities, providing national visibility, informing cultural strategy, and demonstrating that cultural productivity and active citizenship is flourishing across East Lancashire.

Founded in 2016, Breakdown Bolton is a community interest company which is peer led by qualified and experienced artists who have had experience of mental health issues. We work in many different art forms and aim to offer our participants high quality arts classes, exhibition, and cultural opportunities. We do this by promoting high level creativity, individual expression, and empowerment through art, in a safe and positive environment for those across the Greater Manchester region. At Breakdown Bolton we focus on increasing accessibility to art for those with lived experience of mental health and substance misuse issues. We are passionate about breaking down the barriers, stigma and prejudice and raising awareness of these issues. Breakdown Bolton can provide a stepping stone towards further artistic development for a person whose education, employment, and creative practices have been interrupted by poor mental health or substance misuse issues. At Breakdown Bolton we have a diverse range of skills within the team which we use to develop and deliver projects of the highest quality. We are professional artists educated at University level, having had visual artwork and writing published and commissioned. Our members have been awarded both individual and collective grants from bodies such as the Arts Council and are Unltd Alumni. In 2017, Breakdown Bolton was nominated for a National Diversity Award. Since then, we have been recipients of a New Art Space through Castlefield Gallery, worked closely with NeoArtists in Bolton, and have forged strong working partnerships with regional arts education organisations such as theatres, galleries, and local community services.
