In 2015, with a mission, passion and dedication to empower business owners, managers, entrepreneurs, staff and individuals with high quality education, training and professional development on both a local and national scale - Safe Hearts Training Ltd was established by Sherry Diaz-Thompson. Having witnessed first-hand the devastation that underlying illnesses, workplace-related injuries, accidents and other diseases can cause, Sherry wanted to help, in fact she needed to help and make an impact by providing impactful training that is different, focused on companies and individuals needs whilst using all the experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and expertise of carefully selected qualified instructors to help make a difference to people's lives – giving them the confidence they needed to take action when emergency may strike. This is extremely personal and important to Sherry because at 19 years old she was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), an inherited condition affecting the red blood cell and various organs in the body, which causes severe pain and hospitalisation. Without treatment, people with SCD may die in childhood but, even with treatment, it can still cause serious or life-threatening problems. Sherry firmly believes that the more people train, the better it is for individuals, families, workplaces, communities, healthcare and the social care sector. As there is a known chain reaction that happens when health or safety incidents strike – it affects everyone! Safe hearts training a registered training provider we run various BLS, ILS, PILS, AED, Medical Emergencies, Infection Control, Health and Safety and Safeguarding Courses to dental and healthcare professionals, businesses and individuals across the UK; providing training solutions that comply with current UK and International legislation.. Having the knowledge and skills to be able to deal with an emergency situation can provide confidence, peace of mind and can ultimately save lives. Little Lambs First Aid is a small and independent business that has been set up to give parents and carers the skills and confidence to deal with accident and emergency situations. I like to think of Little Lambs as Una's legacy. Una was our first baby who changed our lives forever. Our beautiful girl was still born 2 days shy of me being 42 weeks pregnant. After Una was born asleep, I became very anxious about bad things happening and we then went through a miscarriage too. When I finally became pregnant again, I was so anxious throughout the whole entire pregnancy. I thought that when our daughter was born that this anxiety would leave me, but in fact it became worse. I felt so helpless not knowing how to protect my new baby, not knowing exactly what to do if she choked, got injured or sick or if she stopped breathing. It was my job to protect her and I felt like a failure. I had to sort this situation out, so I looked for a local baby and child first aid course on the Wirral. Well, there weren't any, they just didn't exist. In the end I did book onto one, but it was far away, it was all day, it was expensive, and I couldn't take my baby with me. After attending the course, I thought, "You know what, I can do this! I can get the right qualifications and deliver courses that are more family focused, that are affordable and accessible and adapted to different people's wants and needs". So, I got qualified, had another beautiful rainbow baby, and Una's Legacy - Little Lambs First Aid ran its first ever course in October 2016. I don't want anyone else to have to go through losing a child, especially if it can be prevented by learning some basic first aid skills and having some awareness. I learnt the hard way, that knowledge is power, and awareness is everything. For every person we train here at Little Lambs we donate £1 to two charities. One of those charities is Kicks Count because if I had realised that Una's reduced movements meant that she was in trouble, then she would still be here. #movementsmatter #awarensssaveslives In order to deliver the best training, I have researched and attended numerous first aid courses throughout the Northwest. I have become an accredited trainer with the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (EAT), and I am fully qualified in delivering first aid training, specialising in paediatric first aid. I have a background in biological sciences (Master of Science MSc) and first-hand experience of being a mum of two little ones myself. Little Lambs First Aid courses are informative, fun, accessible, professional, and personable. I not only work in the first aid industry, but I have a passion to improve people’s paediatric first aid skills. Little Lambs First Aid gives people the knowledge and confidence in knowing what to do when caring for little ones should something happen. It is our job as parents to protect our children. Little Lambs’ aim is to make your home the safest place it can be for your children. First Aid is for everyone and we all have the potential to save a life, we just need to be taught how. Hands On Pottery is a small ceramics school based near the centre of Nottingham. The building is light and airy offering Wheelchair access to all three work studios. We have been working with people since 1990 and we encourage everyone to reach their own individual aims and objectives. Confidence is enhanced by our high standards of teaching and working in a comfortable friendly environment. The pottery is all wheel chair friendly with adjustable tables and a loop fitted in the main workshop. As the pottery is all on the ground floor it is easily accessible for all. When working at the pottery you will be encouraged to work individually, on your own chosen designs, which will be finished to a very high standard. The teachers working at the pottery are proud of our reputation, as many students have discovered their creative ability with us through the art of clay. Many students who have never worked with clay before have gained qualifications or found a new creative skill they enjoy. We believe that clay is a wonderful medium to work with and that clay brings out the best in people. The most satisfactory way we can describe our findings is: "It's not what people do to clay, it's what clay does to people" Hands On Pottery offers classes to everybody. We are prepared for you to come to us at the pottery, or for us to come to you in a place of your choice. You can also decide the length of time you would like the class to run for, how many people will be in the group and starting and finishing times. Our work: Schools where we offer Classes to learn the skill of pottery and also to help obtain certain art based Qualifications within the school. We work with people with physical and learning disabilities in schools, centres, nursing homes or at the pottery. Nursery schools and play groups. Hospitals Fun days, play days, festervals and open days. Scout and guide groups and individuals working towards their badges. Birthday parties for children are very popular and can be either paint a pot or making and painting your own work. Parties for adults are also recommended for birthdays, stag and hen groups and other celebrations that you may like something to remember. Corporate events – we work with different companies on team building sessions, which are customised for your group’s individual requirements. We work with young people who are unable to attend school, with children and young people who are being home schooled and with children and young people from different cultural backgrounds. Our Workshops Our workshops are equipped with specialist tools, equipment and materials. We also have a variety of different wheels for throwing, kilns, a choice of different clays and lots of glazes to choose from. We fire our kilns to earthenware and stoneware temperatures, which is useful for both decorative and functional wares. The Teachers The teachers are all practising potters, ceramisists or artists who have professional teaching qualifications. We all offer one to one support to enable everyone to benefit as much as possible during the time you spend with us. At Fight for Peace young people make friends, get fit, and develop their interests, skills, and confidence. Our aim is to ensure young people achieve their full potential in life, and we welcome any young person from our communities aged 7-25 years old. We embrace the power of sport for the life lessons it teaches, such as resilience and discipline, as well as improved health and wellbeing. And we combine this with one-to-one mentoring conversations with qualified youth workers, personal development sessions, and education and employability support. Young leaders also shape our services, being part of staff recruitment and strategy development, producing communications, and progressing to employed roles as ‘Next Gen’ staff. We support around 500 young people per year at our Academy in east London and, in order to reach as many young people as possible, we train and work with like minded community partners across the UK and the world - something we call the Fight for Peace Alliance.
