Laura Fyfe is an award-winning writer with short stories, non-fiction and poetry published in literary magazines internationally, including Northwords Now and Butcher’s Dog. Laura has nearly twenty years experience in motivating writers, as well as a M.Ed in Educational Enquiry and an M.Litt in Creative Writing under her belt. She travels Scotland to facilitate writing workshops and adjudicate writing competitions and is a prominent voice in Scotland’s writing community, serving on the board of the Scottish Writers’ Centre and the Scottish Poetry Library. Laura publishes books under her imprint, Figment Books and has published a book as an app as well, ChildsPlay app. She predominantly writes poetry and novels and loves experimenting with new ideas and techniques. Laura is an expert in boosting writers’ confidence, as reflected in her books and audiobooks Wellspring and Magpie Mind which focus on defeating procrastination and increasing creativity.

All Together Edinburgh is a social enterprise with charitable status. It was set up in 2010 after recognising that there were very few training opportunities for people with learning disabilities to learn skills that would help them work within the retail/charity retailing sector or customer facing environment. We wanted to create more training and employment opportunities by delivering a training programme that would not only improve employability skills, confidence and self-esteem, but deliver an accredited, person-centred course that resulted in a recognised qualification. We decided that the training would be best delivered in a charity shop and we opened our first shop in June, 2011. The charity shop is an ideal practical setting to learn an array of skills relevant to the retail field. It also gives the trainee an opportunity to interact with the public and to increase awareness of people with learning disabilities. This is a unique enterprise and is the first of it’s kind in Scotland!

Initially we created training programmes that women could deliver to other women. These programmes were designed to develop self-esteem, confidence, peer relationships and support in classrooms. In talking to young women we found that the classroom was where a lot of the issues came from so we wanted to focus on building a relationship with schools and supporting the issues and inequalities that young women were facing in the classroom. We bring women together to support each other and believe that "if you can't see it, you can't be it". Having female role models is of huge significance to show other women what can be achievable. The services we offer include Circle Time, Mind Body and Soul and SHE Voices. We also recently hosted a popular event, "Embrace It Aw" to showcase the work we have been doing and we had guest speakers from inspirational female speakers which was really well received. At Splash Start our philosophy is focussed on relationships both with our swimmers, parents/guardians & our staff. We recognise the unique individual learning styles of each child and our personalised programme reflects this. Calum & Amy have learnt to swim with Splash Start and have loved every lesson. Thanks to all at Splash Start, Laura Hope Kids have progressed well with their swimming since starting lessons with Splash Start. Teachers have so much patience with the children. Big thank you to Karen & the team. Charles had no confidence in the water before starting with Splash Start now I cant get him out the pool.

Erin Whyte (founder and teacher) – I started my love of music at a young age and began classical training from the age of 14. After leaving school I went on to study popular singing at Jewel and Esk College on their HND Music course. During these 2 years I sang in bands and in choirs and my passion for performing was born. From here I went on to focus on my classical voice at Edinburgh Napier University where I studied on their BMus (hons) course for 4 years. I gained a lot of experience singing solo and in small groups which really helped build my self-confidence. I have worked with children for over 16 years, starting out shadowing a music teacher in primary schools. This is where I found my love for teaching music to young children. Knowing I wanted to work with children I left retail and started working at Newtongrange After School Club. From here I began working as a Learning Assistant at Stockbridge Primary School and worked at their After School Club. Following the birth of my son in 2014 I gave up work to be a full time Mum. With lots more free time I could take him to classes for little ones where I met some of my best friends, and Charlie did too. I found out how invaluable these classes were for both child and carer and realised that this was the environment I wanted to work in. In 2015 I became a teacher for Monkey Music. Here I learnt how to really work with babies and toddlers and grow relationships with them and their carers. My dream for a long time has been to combine my passions for singing, music and working with young children. With the arrival of our daughter Katie at the start of 2017 I am finally back to work and realising that dream. I think it’s highly important to have affordable and educational classes for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers in and around local areas, not only for the little ones to make friends, but for the adults to meet people from the community too. Music is a great tool to bring people together and also encourages self-confidence which is an important factor in a young person’s life.n

We are a team of highly experienced, enthusiastic and professional teachers who provide music lessons in a wide range of instruments. Our goal at ESM is to bring the love of music into all our student's lives in a fun and enjoyable way as well as providing all the necessary skills to pass exams, perform with confidence and compose music and songs. We are very proud to maintain a 100% pass rate in all our student's instrumental and vocal music exams making us Edinburgh's favourite music school for private music lessons. One - to - one tuition Lessons are available for a range of instruments including voice, piano, guitar, violin, viola, cello, saxophone, clarinet, flute, recorder and drums. We offer one to one private lessons in our studio in Meadowbank or online lessons. Groups We offer a range of music group activities including our Baby music groups (for ages 0-5), youth singing groups, performance coaching workshops and summer school music groups. We provide monthly showcases at Edinburgh's Jazz Bar in addition to end of term concerts.
