I followed that path towards status and salary. As a senior executive, I had it all; the flash car on the driveway, the luxury holidays and a well-respected position within the company. In addition, I was bringing up my children to be polite, well-rounded and ambitious. My home was clean and welcoming, freshly cooked dinners were served each mealtime and weekends were spent at an array of social events. It sounds fantastic and I had convinced myself that this was everything I wanted, but somehow I still felt unhappy. I brushed aside the sleepless nights and smiled despite regularly feeling overwhelmed. I believed that being permanently stressed and busy was a sign that I’d earned my stars. Stopped in my Tracks Even when the cracks started to show, I kept going. I couldn’t see any other option. It took a major blow to my health to completely take me out of action. I had no choice but to stop. My life as I knew it had come to an end. There’s no doubt that serious ill-health impacted every area of my life. However, rather than being a tragedy, it was a turning point. I had time to think and I finally accepted that I wasn’t healthy or genuinely happy. My lifestyle and my mindset needed to change. I decided to channel my energy into new pursuits, particularly those which would benefit my mental and physical health. I committed to fully embracing training in NLP Coaching, Rapid Transformational Therapy and Nordic Walking. Gaining accreditation and putting my skills into practice has helped me to change and gain confidence, whilst helping others to get more from their lives. YOU HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE! I set up my first business at the age of 17; buying pizzas from a local factory and selling them to hungry students at my college. Not groundbreaking by any means, but it taught me a huge amount about business, and paid for my social life, as well as funding a modest expansion in the form of a chest freezer, delivery bike and eventually a van. More importantly, this little pizza business gave me the knowledge and confidence to develop my next idea. COMPETING WITH FILOFAX At 19, I designed and manufactured a range of products to compete with the global brand ‘Filofax’ (for those who remember them). My first order (from WH-Smith) was manufactured in a rented bedroom in Tring, Hertfordshire, and the business quickly grew big enough to win several innovation and business awards. Within 18 months the range sold through many major UK and European retailers, including Liberty’s and Selfridges, as well as being used as commercial folders and gifts by brands like Mercedes Benz and Shell Oil. GROWING COMPANIES Since selling that brand at 22, I’ve grown several businesses with the majority of the last 25+ years running and owning companies in the branding, design, marketing and business development sector. From turning 2 people working from a bedroom making very little to a 30 headcount agency turning over £2.5m through to a 20 person agency in London to have 400 people in offices all over the world. Always with a focus on growth and working closely with my clients, it is here that I have advised many hundreds of different companies on their positioning, brand, marketing, customer development, growth and efficiency.

Enable your baby to swim happily, safely and confidently from an early age. Swim Academy for Babies is a specialist baby swimming school that started in Cornwall more than 10 years ago, and is now available in Somerset. We are proud to be entirely run by mothers, providing a unique experience for families with babies and small children. We run tailored baby swimming classes for babies from newborn to 4 years old, we hope to soon be able to resume offering swimming development courses and junior squads for ages 5 to 10 years old. We create a natural, loving and fun environment where you can enjoy special time with your baby, deepening your special bond whilst learning how to help your baby enjoy the water. We teach babies water awareness and safety, allowing them to explore and discover what their bodies are capable of in a variety of structured situations. All our classes are uniquely planned taking into account the ability of each individual baby and child. The earlier babies are introduced to water the sooner they can be taught vital water safety skills as well as increasing their strength and stamina. We also include fun excercises to help mothers recover their pre-pregnancy body weight. We use internationally proven ‘in water’ and ‘underwater’ techniques to improve babies lung capacityand function as well as boosting babies self-confidence and general heath and fitness levels. Most babies also develop better eating and sleeping patterns, and many parents plan sleep times around swimming classes! Other family members are welcome to bring their baby swimming as soon as baby’s umbilical cord has healed. This may be useful during the first 6 weeks when mother cannot go in the water.
