KIRAN (also known as KIRAN Cymru) is committed to improving mental wellbeing of Black Asian Ethnic Minority people living in Wales. We particularly focus on people over 50 and young people. However, all of our activities are ‘open to all’, and we welcome everyone to participate. We currently have several projects to promote mental wellbeing. Please see below to learn about the projects and visit their respective websites. KIRAN Legal - Free Legal Help This is a pilot project by KIRAN Cymru. We help financially disadvantaged BAME members in Wales by offering free legal support (Benefits, Housing and employment) and interpretation/translation services in Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Sylheti, Punjabi and Gujrati. Please visit, kiranlegal.co.uk for more information. Friends in Need - Befriending Service This is a pilot project by KIRAN Cymru. Since March 2020, we have been helping BAME people in Cardiff with their day-to-day needs, i.e., grocery shopping. We also ring elderly community members regularly to keep in touch and overcome loneliness through our befriending service. Our ‘Friends in Need’ service helps BAME people in Wales to connect with other people and fight social isolation. Our Communities Our Strength - Wellbeing for BAME People This is a project by KIRAN Cymru. This project started in March 2021. We aim to combat the adverse effects of COVID 19 pandemic by creating regular and structured opportunities for BAME community members to connect with each other through virtual meet-ups, games, and cultural activities. We offer various opportunities for all BAME people in Wales to connect with other people in virtual social meet-ups, e.g., book clubs, bridge clubs, learning musical instruments, e.g., Piano and Tabla. There is also a community musical group for you to join. As a part of this project, we have started an English Online Magazine called Story Cloud. All community members are encouraged to take part in creative writing. KIRAN Cymru offers free guidance and training on ‘Creative Writing’. It is a beautiful skill and can improve the confidence and self-esteem of the writer. Please get in touch with us if you want to take part in creative writing. BushKraft Forest School CIC (Community Interest Company) is a NON profit organisation working with people of all ages and abilities. We also work with and in partnership with other organisations including schools, social care and charities. A CIC is usually formed from people with a passion to want to try and alleviate problems that have identified in there local area or area of expertise. BushKraft is no different and wants to tackle the social issues, build confidence in everyone and improve peoples opportunities and situations. One of our skills is keeping families together and promoting well being, positive communication, positiveness and bonding as a unit rather than individuals. Most companies are formed to make money for the directors and share holders. A CIC is formed to help the community around its existence. When you pay a Community Interest Company you are helping others by us putting our profits back into the community. A CIC has to do this like a charity and is regulated with rules from the government and HMRC. Traditional forest school is not by far a new concept. Outdoor leaning and its benefits have been around since 19th century. One of many outdoor educators was Baden Powel who in 1907 formed the scouting organisation which has grown massively into what it is today. Traditional forest school is child led. This does not mean we just let them run wild and boss us around, but we do not set a specific curriculum. We facilitate their learning at a speed and style that suits the individual. Our high ratio's of adult to child allows children to learn and explore the woodland and nature around them. Our mission is to get children outside into nature enjoying themselves, playing with other children. Over the years technology is so advanced, (games consoles get "virtual" reality and mobile phones are really mini computers.) Children are spending less time outdoors especially in the winter months. Although we are not against technology we strongly believe in a child's right to play, explore, take risks, and be part of the natural world around them. Forest school is based more on the process of learning than it is on the content. This means instead of planning each session to the nearest minute, children can go off as things take their interest. More often than not as Forest leaders our planned sessions end up completely unplanned as the children explore nature.

Building on Betel UK’s 25-year track record as a national charity helping the marginalised, homeless and addicted, Anchor Point will address head-on the hardships of social exclusion, substance dependencies, family breakdown and unemployment in one of Britain’s most under-resourced urban wards. The three-fold vision is: to create a thriving community hub that integrates seven family-friendly businesses, each serving the public, that simultaneously deliver a range of employment skills and addictions- recovery training all under one roof. Anchor Point will offer a safe, welcoming environment to residents and university students of greater Aston where they can flourish. Hundreds will enjoy an impressive restaurant serving homemade food, drinks and baked goods, affordable arts performance and fitness training, a children’s softplay arena, a gender-neutral hair and nail salon, catered banqueting, plus multi-purpose meeting and conference facilities for hire. All these diverse activities inter-link, sharing one 40,000-square-foot building just outside the boundary of Birmingham’s Clear Air Zone. When compared to most other social inclusion models nationwide, Anchor Point’s multi-purpose skills training sets it apart as truly exceptional. All seven social enterprises will be staffed by recovering Betel residents, each a member of our successful, therapeutic, work-based recovery model. This means that Anchor Point not only promises essential socialising for scores of city-wide youths and families. But it will also serve as a healing, restorative workplace, helping men and women to break with substance and welfare dependencies alike. Together, the businesses will simultaneously train for future employment more than 60 men and women in the process of rebuilding their lives and families after years of life-controlling drugs and alcohol addictions, homelessness and criminal offending. Anchor Point revives the power of local community. It is a visionary investment in lives where restored men and women, now clean from addictive substances, re-build confidence and a vitally important work ethic as they “give back” to others. Inner city neighbours are likewise enriched, embracing old friends and new relationships in an atmosphere of belonging, leisure, learning and personal growth. The outcome? A swelling synergy of people’s potential, as one by one they are encouraged, equipped and empowered for purposeful new directions.

The Aikido practitioner does not rely on muscle strength but concentrates the power of the whole body onto the weak point of an opponent, forcing him/her to cooperate using his/her own force and momentum. This attribute defines Aikido's effectiveness and beauty as a martial art. Several approaches to Aikido have evolved over the years. Today Aikido is found all over the world in a number of styles, with broad ranges of interpretation and emphasis. However, the core essential principles of the martial art remain consistent. WHY PRACTISE AIKIDO? Aikido is more than simply an efficient method of self-defense. In practice, there are various facets of Aikido - the power of focus and concentration of energy; the concept of blending and unified non-resistance; the awareness of self and others. Traditionally, Aikido is a form of Budo – a “martial way”. Unlike other arts, Aikido technique can be applied at varying levels of severity, from the most gentle controlling techniques to the most severe countermeasures. Wing Training delivers unique and bespoke course interventions for; Adult customers furthest from the workplace, adult clients with clear, identified and entrenched barriers, adult clients with a range of profound mental health and wellbeing issues, adult clients requiring support, both moving into, and in work. Wing Training adopts a highly specialised delivery approach utilising professional actor-teachers and 'Forum Theatre' techniques. It's mission is to ENABLE and INSPIRE client groups by facilitating a process of high level self-assessment and self-realisation, allowing those with a range of issues, barriers and health conditions move out of crisis and into meaningful recovery and progression. Alongside, Wing Training uses the highly acclaimed WEMWBS tool to measure improvement in mental health and improvement, and currently we can prove an average 16% increase per participant per programme. Since 2011, Wing Training has assisted over 6000 clients with wellbeing issues move successfully forward - partners including; People Plus, Ingeus, The Shaw Trust. Maximus, Acorn Training and two large FE colleges. Clients have regularly included; homeless people, ex-offenders, lone parents and those recovering from a variety of crisese. Of these, over 70 percent have moved into relevant and meaningful progression, and we can boast a 90 percent client improvement rate in a wide range of mental health related outcomes – notably; confidence, self-esteem, emotional well-being, social skills/interaction, motivation, focus, and positivity - proving levels of profound recovery. Similarly, when delivering the same resource to, specifically, harder to reach unemployed clients, we have assisted, globally, over 27 percent - of 3000 referrals - move into paid, full time work and 70 percent into other progressions (ie further training). Nearly all of these have been ‘Work and Health programme’ participants. Since April 2020, Wing Training has delivered completely digitally, but our business ambition is to move back to 'face to face' as soon as is possible to assist vulnerable clients struggling post-Covid. Funding allowing, all of our courses can be accredited to Level One and our learners achieve, either an Award, a Certificate or a Diploma in Personal and Social Development, with specialised IAG and Digital skills embedded. KIRKINTILLOCH TO FALKIRK Hi everyone, my name is Nicole and I live in Scotland with my Husband, Martiens and my daughter Hailey. We are Namibians who have made Scotland our home. I have previously worked as a horse-riding instructor as well as a travel agent, and before going on maternity leave, was working in customer service. After having Hailey I couldn’t bare the thought of sitting behind a desk all day while she went to nursery. I like to be active and love meeting new people. I took Hailey to Tots Play from the time she was just a few weeks old and we loved it. The benefits and results were amazing. From getting her to sleep better and helping her get over colic, to chats and advice from the parents and it was lovely seeing how much Hailey loved the interaction too. When the opportunity came to take over Tots Play in the area, I was so excited and was determined to make it happen. The support I received in the classes really helped me as a first-time mum, and I am passionate about providing this for others parents. Running the business also allowed me to escape the office environment, meet new people and be there to see my daughter grow up - a perfect fit for me! The Tots play program offers a unique experience using massage, yoga, music, sign language and sensory play all in one class. The program is designed to aid your little one’s development using easy, inexpensive and fun ways to play together, both at class and that you can continue at home too.
