John Ruskin College (part of Orbital South Colleges) is a successful vocational college situated in Selsdon, South Croydon. We deliver a wide range of full-time study programmes for young people and a range of full and part-time qualification and non-qualification courses for adults, including evenings. From September 2022, our full-time study programme offer for 16-18s will include T Levels. Our Apprenticeship offer is very wide meeting local employment and employer needs. It’s inbuilt, so why not learn to use it to your advantage to turn ideas into actions and outcomes? We met at university at the tail end of the last millennium, on a theatre studies BA. Josh then worked with vulnerable adults for a housing association, whilst developing his skills as a storytelling performer in museums, festivals and schools. Lily continued post graduate studies at Central School of Speech and Drama and gained an MA at Goldsmiths, while devising theatre productions as a director. Our paths crossed again on a project with young actors in Mumbai where we discovered we enjoyed working together. On our return we started to deliver open storytelling workshops as a means to develop our product and explore its uses and applications. Initially, we thought storytelling was perfect for presentation skills and museum tours. Now we also use it to investigate and build understanding with individuals and in collaborative groups as well as to grow connections, values and relationships. Ben Joiner became one of the core team in 2014. We were drawn to his in-depth knowledge and expertise in voice and body-language and his gift to comfortably take people outside their comfort zone. Over the past couple of decades, we have honed our skills and our love of training and coaching. We have stayed curious, and use that curiosity to help us adapt and evolve how we use storytelling to the benefit of contemporary working life.

CTVC is a multi-BAFTA-winning and Grierson nominated independent production company producing content that raises important ethical and moral issues, from the perspective of all faiths and none. Broadcasting across all networks, both in the UK and internationally, our television, radio, education and online platforms aim is to get people thinking and talking. Established in 1978 by Lord and Lady Rank, CTVC is a registered charity which receives a grant from the Rank Foundation; a grant-giving charitable trust whose mission is to improve the lives of young and disadvantaged people and their communities, across the UK. The company ethos was sparked in the 1930s when, as a Sunday school teacher, J. Arthur Rank became frustrated by the limited teaching materials for children and decided to take matters into his own hands (a legacy we continue today through our subsidiary, TrueTube). He established the ‘Religious Film Society’ to produce films for schools and churches. From there the slate and variance of projects grew, and Lord Rank went on to purchase the Odeon Cinema chain and Elstree Studios, as well as set up the legendary Pinewood Film Studios. The Centre for Television and Communication, as it became known, saw the thriving operation move to newly built studios in a converted country house named ‘Hillside’. Based in Bushey, North London, an early production, Will the Real Jesus Christ Please Stand Up? featured a fresh faced, young Hugh Grant. In 2005 we changed our name to CTVC Ltd and although we have progressed with the rapidly changing media landscape, the principles laid out by Lord Rank’s vision are still at the heart of everything we do. Above all, CTVC are passionate believers in the power and importance of media to educate, challenge and inspire.

About the Migration Museum The Migration Museum explores how the movement of people to and from Britain across the ages has shaped who we are – as individuals, as communities, and as a nation. Migration is a pressing contemporary issue and is at the centre of polarised political and online debate. But there’s an underlying story of comings and goings stretching back many centuries. And this story goes to the heart of who we are today. Britain has thousands of museums, but none comprehensively focused on this important theme that connects us all. The time is right for a highly relevant, accessible visitor attraction that shines a light on who we are, where we come from and where we are going. From our current home in the heart of Lewisham Shopping Centre, we stage engaging exhibitions and dynamic events, alongside a far-reaching education programme for primary, secondary, university and adult learners. We have a growing digital presence and convene a knowledge-sharing Migration Network of museums and galleries across the UK. The story so far The Migration Museum was founded by Barbara Roche, who first made the case for a migration museum for Britain almost 20 years ago, stemming from her time as Britain’s immigration minister, and from visiting similar museums in other parts of the world – notably Ellis Island in New York. Barbara assembled a founding team of people from different professional backgrounds who shared her passionate belief that Britain’s migration history should be placed at the heart of our national story. Together, they began to scope what a national migration museum might look like. Sophie Henderson, a former immigration judge and barrister, came on board as Director in 2013.
