Set up with Sino-Scottish Government backing and partnered with Fudan University in Shanghai, the centre was established under an initiative taken by Hanban – the Chinese Government department responsible for promotion of Chinese language overseas. Objectives The Confucius Institute for Scotland is one of more than 450 Confucius Institutes around the world. The principal remit for Confucius Institutes is the promotion and development of Chinese language and culture. Each institute determines its own programme of activity based on market conditions. The key objectives for the Confucius Institute for Scotland are: to help develop effective Sino-Scottish business, cultural and academic links to offer an extensive programme of Chinese language training to act as a bridge between Scotland and China, aiding understanding and facilitating engagement to be a major point of reference for Sino-Scottish relations in the areas of education, business and culture to work with other stakeholders to develop greater awareness of China in Scotland The Confucius Institute for Scotland also builds on existing links within the University of Edinburgh to various academic and cultural institutions in China. Who were the initial member schools of the MAT? The Bishop Fraser Trust was established in December 2017 with two outstanding schools in Bolton. Canon Slade School and St James’s CE High School came together as convertor academies with the ambition to secure best practice, uphold the positive aspects of tradition and a provide distinctive Christian education for our families. We were delighted to welcome Bolton St Catherine’s Academy in May 2018 as a sponsored academy and Bury Church of England High School joined us as a convertor academy in January 2022. I am a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the School of Computer Science and Informatics at Cardiff University, working on Human-Computer Interaction and Human-Robot Interaction as part of the Human-Centred Computing Research Group and member of the new Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Human-Machine Systems (IROHMS). Previously, I was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Horizon Digital Economy Research Institute, University of Nottingham, I worked in the area of Human-Robot Interaction and Human-Computer Interaction. Also, I was part of the EPSRC project "Autonomous Internet of Things", at the Mixed Reality Lab, University of Nottingham. My research focuses on human-robot collaboration, human-computer interaction, Internet of Things (IoT), and a socially responsible approach for designing technology. I am particularly interested in understanding the impact of technology through a user-centred research focus in different contexts, i.e healthcare, domestic environments, factory domains, and the global south. My background is in Computer Science, I received my Ph.D. at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, working at the HumaLab research group, during that time I explored: The impact of novel interfaces to support the self-report of emotions of informal caregivers/unpaid carers. How digital skills affect preferences of interfaces: Tangibles, Mobiles, and Ambient. Technology and social network use in complex contexts, i.e mothers of children with chronic illness, informal caregiver/unpaid carers of dependent elderlies, and isolated caregivers.

Robyn is a Bristol-based director, teacher and performer. With over 20 years experience she is a passionate practitioner of clowning, physical theatre, circus and street arts. She has a MA in Circus Directing, a Diploma of Physical Theatre Practice and trained with a long line of inspiring teachers including Holly Stoppit, Peta Lily, Giovanni Fusetti, Jon Davison, Zuma Puma and Deanna Fleysha. Robyn has collaborated with companies including Let’s Circus, The Sexual Health Circus and Whispering Wood Folk and performed with acclaimed physical theatre companies including, Derevo, Akhe, Oceanallover, and Gappad as well as her own award-winning company, Fun in the Oven Theatre. During the pandemic in 2020, Robyn set up The Online Clown Academy with Holly Stoppit and developed a series of Zoom Clown Courses. Robyn’s research, started during her Masters, has been exploring the meeting point of clowning and activism, online, in the real world and with international collaborators. With this drive to explore political edges of her work she has also dived back into the world of the Bouffon; training with Jaime Mears, Bim Mason, Nathaniel Justiniano, Eric Davis, Tim Licata, Al Seed and the grand master Bouffon-himself; Philippe Gaulier. She has also set up the Laboratory of the Un-beautiful; a collaboration with Deborah Antoinette Bard, exploring the bouffon & grotesque with womxn theatre makers.
