It’s a great privilege to introduce myself as the Headteacher at Southend High School for Girls, and on behalf of our students and staff, I’m pleased to welcome you to our website. The school has over a hundred years of history, tradition and success – educating the brightest young minds. As Headteacher, I’m passionate about the learning and development of our students and am delighted that you’ve shown an interest in our wonderful school. SHSG is a unique school. Students and staff cherish its traditions, such as celebrating the school’s birthday just before October half term and presenting birthday presents to the school. Clocks are a popular gift! Our 1,200 students and 140 staff are joined by past pupils, governors and headteachers in the hall – singing the school’s song, Jerusalem, with gusto – a great example of the SHSG family coming together. Indeed, once a member of the SHSG family, always a member of the SHSG family. Southend High School for Girls is a high-performing grammar school – academic excellence is at the core of our purpose and commitment to students and parents. Teachers are passionate about their subjects and are experts in their fields. We are unashamedly ambitious for our students and challenge them far beyond the National Curriculum. For example, in Year 7 students learn Latin and classical Greek, in addition to learning how to code in computer science. At GCSE, students can take Further Maths and Statistics, including additional subjects beyond the curriculum, such as Critical and Contextual Art. At A Level, students study four subjects and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). Of course, we’re about far more than just great academic outcomes. Developing the whole person and seeing our Year 7s grow into confident, articulate and highly motivated young adults strong in self-belief and ready to start their next chapter after Year 13 is why we’re here. A student’s journey at SHSG is full of adventure, and we encourage students to get involved. There’s something to inspire and challenge everyone. Students relish opportunities to participate in Duke of Edinburgh and World Challenge expeditions, to be leaders, to perform in school shows, and to represent the school in our nationally renowned sports teams. Guidelines for your practice given the current COVID-19 pademic There are a few things that we now have to do... You MUST book your space online as class numbers are limited. If you or anyone you have been in contact with has or thinks they may have COVID-19 please do not attend the session. Bring your own mat, equipment, blanket, and water to the session. Scan the QR Code fo the NHS Track and Trace App if you are using it. We must always keep 2 metres between us and place our mats to allow this. I will have some cones to mark out mat placement. I will not be adjusting you hands on during practice or providing the hands on settling during relaxation. Please be kind to your fellow yogis – we are all coping in different ways and some of us are more apprehensive than others. General Information about the classes. All classes are designed to be suitable, safe and enjoyable for beginner and intermediate Yogis. Adults of all ages are welcome. Please let me know if you have existing conditions by email or telephone prior to the class. For the 90 and 75 minute class - Class format is generally a gentle warm up followed by a flow of postures to increase body temperature and then a range of poses to build strength and increase flexibility. We then move to gentle stretches and twists to cool down. The end of the class usually consists of a breathing practice to calm the body and mind with a final section of relaxation to close the session. For the Beginners class - Class format is similar in order but focuses on the foundation poses with extra time taken to ensure correct allignment and movement into and out of postures. For the Gentle Yoga class - Class format is similar in order but at much less intense level. The class is aimed at those with limited flexibility or reduced strength who want to gradually build and improve both areas. For all classes each person is encouraged to focus on their own practice and to do only as much as feels right for them. We are all different so a posture that one person finds easy another might find more difficult. Yoga is an excellent way to improve your own strength and flexibility against your own starting point - wherever that may be. I use a combination of demonstration, verbal guidance and adjustment. Each posture will be taught with options to practice the next stage or level if the Yogi wishes Every week will have a different focus; some postures will be familiar every week others will be introduced to keep the class interesting and fresh. For the Beginner... It is best to wear comfortable clothing such as leggings or jogging bottoms and a T shirt. Socks, a warm fleece or jumper, maybe even a blanket are useful for relaxation at the end of the class in cooler weather. Some water to sip on is a good idea in hot weather. Please bring your own yoga mat.

Once upon a time there was a small group of Business Analysts and they had a simple yet great idea: A Business Analysis conference for BAs, created and hosted by BAs ...and so BA Life was born. BA Life | Passionate champions for the growth of Business Analysis and BAs Like all great disciplines, Business Analysis has grown and developed and in turn has gained a highly regarded reputation in the IT world for the incredible positive impact Business Analysts have on a project and business as a whole (yes, we know some folk have still yet to catch up on this fact, but they'll get there!) This means 'Learning & Innovation' is a key part of our success, now and into the future - and we want to champion that. Not all IT conferences really 'get it' and so there's only so many times you can hear the merits of 'Waterfall' or Kanban! What about new and improved approaches? What about fresh takes on old ideas? We then have 'Festival' and as I'm sure you know already, Edinburgh is renowned across the globe for its wonderful International and Fringe festivals in summer, the largest in the world ...and we love that about our city. So BA Life isn't just a conference, it's a festival in the truest sense of the word, celebrating the wonders and greatness of Business Analysis. Neither is it a flash-in-the-pan... The Education Committee recommended at its meeting of 21 August 1997 that – ‘the adoption of a distinctive dress code chosen to enhance the ethos of the school should be encouraged in all schools’. Given that there is substantial parental and public approval of uniform, schools in Argyll and Bute are free to encourage the wearing of school uniform. In Strone Primary School, the suggested uniform is as follows: BOYS: Strone School sweatshirt (which is bright red and bears the school logo, plain red jumper or cardigan.) Black or grey trousers. White shirt or school polo shirt Black School Shoes GIRLS: Strone School sweatshirt (which is bright red and bears the school logo, plain red jumper or cardigan.) Black or grey skirts or trousers. White blouse or school polo shirt Black School Shoes PE KIT: T-shirt, shorts, training shoes. Indoor and outdoor training shoes required. T-shirt and training shoes should be kept in a bag with pupil’s name on it. At Strone Primary we use the outdoor environment as a valuable resource for our curriculum. The children are frequently outdoors and therefore we would ask that they all have a pair of wellies that they can keep in school. We are able to provide waterproof jackets and trousers for all our pupils. Please note that school uniform is not compulsory and it is not policy to insist on pupils wearing uniform or having specialist items of clothing in order to engage in all of the activities of the curriculum. As such, pupils will not be deprived of any educational benefit as a result of not wearing uniform. However, there are forms of dress which are unacceptable in school, such as items of clothing which: potentially encourage faction (such as football colours); could cause offence (such as anti-religious symbolism or political slogans); could cause health and safety difficulties (such as loose fitting clothing, dangling earrings); are made from a flammable material, for example shell suits in practical classes; could cause damage to flooring; carry advertising, particularly for alcohol or tobacco; and could be used to inflict damage on other pupils or be used by others to do so. All clothing brought to school should be labelled or marked in some way, as it is difficult for children to distinguish their own clothing from others. School Clothing Grants Grants of £100 are available for any child who will attend an Argyll and Bute Council school and whose parent(s) receive: Income Support Income Based Job Seekers Allowance Income related element of employment and Support allowance Council Tax or Housing Benefit Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit (Income should not exceed £6900) Pupils aged between 16 and 18 years who receive any of the above benefits in their own right also qualify.
