I’m a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist, with 11 years experience in Acute NHS Inpatient Physiotherapy. I studied Physiotherapy at the University of Birmingham, graduating in 2009, and I have since worked locally across a number of acute NHS Trusts. I have a breadth of experience across clinical areas including acute medicine, respiratory, stroke, frailty, trauma & orthoapedics, surgery, neurological rehabilitation and A&E. Alongside my clinical work I have undertaken a post graduate degree in healthcare leadership, worked alongside local universities to review physiotherapy programme quality, provided guest lectures, and completed a coaching and service improvement qualification. All in all a busy 11 years!

My passion for well being and happiness started early in my career, over 20 years ago. Having worked in senior positions both within education and business I have been assisting others in their own well-being journey for many years. I have had experience in a variety of challenging positions across different industries such as managing company mergers, overseeing leadership coaching and business consultancy to teaching and lecturing in secondary schools, colleges and university. The natural progression from my science, education and business background was to utilise this unique skill set and knowledge in the pursuit of providing physical, mental and emotional balance to others’ lives. Having specialised in the science behind the body and mind, being a certified CBT Life Coach and Mindfulness Instructor I have successfully been empowering others to embrace a true work life balance, to build resilience and to achieve their goals.

On occasion, we are asked by prospective students about our background and how and where we started. To put things simply, students want to know more about us before they decide whether to select us as their distance learning provider. And who can blame them! The initial idea of setting up UK Open College was the brainchild of our director Bill Nicholls. After many years of working within an education and in particular the distance learning sector. Bill gained a thorough understanding of exactly what students were looking for when embarking on their home study journey. After years of speaking and dealing directly with distance learning students, it was soon established exactly what it was that students required. The main three factors were to offer the opportunity to study anywhere, anytime, offer true flexibility and to ensure any offering was affordable to the majority of students. About Bright I's Lead Consultant and Director Bright I's is about the professional development of teaching methods in Literacy that are driven by creativity in classroom approach that ensures progress and impact. Bright I's is the brainchild of Kala Williams, a leading practitioner who has taught in Coventry's secondary and primary schools for over 15 years both as a tutor and a qualified teacher. Having identified her area of specialism as Reading in Literacy particularly in KS2 practice, Kala has conceptualised a consultancy that is about practice through active lesson modeling, staff support and training as well as on the ground lesson delivery and coaching. She has successfully driven progress and attainment in all schools taught with her unique and systematic classroom approach that keeps pupils hooked, engaged and driven by high aspirations. She has taught across both Key Stages with particular expertise in Year 6 and Year 5. Despite being a new primary consultant, her passion for literacy has seen rapid growth in the first year of Bright I's conception.
