The FTC is returning an additional $25 million to people who lost money to a
business coaching scheme that used the names Coaching Department and Apply
Knowledge, among others. According to the FTC, the defendants conned millions of
dollars from people by falsely telling them they could earn thousands of dollars
a month by purchasing business coaching services and establishing an Internet
business. The FTC previously sent checks for this matter in October 2019 and
June 2020. The funds for the current distribution come from the FTC’s case
against First Data Merchant Services LLC, one of several companies that
processed credit card payments for the defendants in this case. According to the
FTC, First Data allegedly ignored repeated warnings from employees, banks, and
others that they were processing payments for companies that were breaking the
law.
