The NIHR was established in 2006 to "create a health research system in which the NHS supports outstanding individuals, working in world-class facilities, conducting leading-edge research focused on the needs of patients and the public". Since that time, we have transformed research in and for the NHS and helped to shape the health and social care research landscape more broadly. Working in partnership with the NHS, universities, local government, other research funders, patients and the public, we fund, enable and deliver world-leading health and social care research that improves people's health and wellbeing and promotes economic growth. We are funded by the Department of Health and Social Care. Our work focuses on early translational research, clinical research and applied health and social care research. We are centred on England but collaborate closely with the devolved administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We are also a major funder of applied health research in low and middle income countries, work that is principally funded through UK aid from the UK government.

My passion in life is to support and inspire women and girls of all ages throughout the mothering journey. As a trained counsellor who's needed counselling myself in the past, I talk openly about my own struggles having suffered an ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage. In my experience, we have been repeatedly failed by inadequate and disjointed services so my goal is to ensure that the voices of women will finally be heard in the mental health system. Women and girls with complex mental health problems, especially those who have suffered abuse and violence, are in need of specialist support and this cannot be purely clinical. This is why I set up my charity Motherwell which offers community-based projects for vulnerable mothers - giving them access to a support network and bridges the gap in services for women’s wellbeing across Cheshire. My charity is run by women for women and is open to all mothers, whatever their stage in life. I’m a strong believer that information empowers people and I work hard to drive forward change so that our voices are heard.

The Foundation was started in 1989 with a generous donation from Mrs Lucille Driscoll in memory of her late husband Sydney, who had been treated in the Department of Neuroscience at Preston in the 1960s by the first neurosurgeon at Preston; the late Mr Ken Tutton. She was delighted with the idea that the money which she had donated would be used to enhance neuroscience education and research. A Trust Fund was established as a registered charity and is administered by the Trustees who meet regularly. The late Mr Ken Tutton was one of the founder members of the Trust. Aims and objectives of the Trust. The aim is to build upon the Department’s reputation as a centre of excellence in the field of neuroscience, by continuing to develop and expand the facilities for education, training and research. These aims and objectives include a Neuroscience Library, an Annual Neuroscience Lecture, an Annual Neuroscience Award, support for Conference and Training Courses and funding for relevant Clinical or Laboratory Research.

I am a Therapeutic massage therapist with 38 years' experience working from Fremington, in Devon. I originally trained as a nurse and worked in both General and Psychiatric nursing! One of the best decisions of my life, was to beg and borrow the money to train as a massage therapist in London. and here I am, still passionately enjoying my treatments. I work closely with the NHS and other allied therapists and have my clinic in Fremington. I specialise in all massage disciplines. I can do a firm Remedial or Sports Massage and have released tension and spasms in several Olympic athletes as well as military staff and Formula One drivers. For me, massage keeps body and soul together and without that regular M.O.T to destress and release tension and pain throughout the body, I would certainly not be able to continue enjoying such a healthy lifestyle and living the dream. My clientele tends to be a variety of adults of all ages who enjoy a therapeutic treatment to improve their mobility and release aches and pains. A treatment to keep them moving, as well as young athletes who want a Deep Tissue or Sports massage to rectify a specific issue. I am also a clinical Aromatherapist and have used my oils to treat numerus conditions as well as detoxifying, uplifting and relaxing thousands of clients over the years.
