Hello there, my name is Alex Koster and I am so happy you have found my website. I am a mindfulness, nature pedagogy and ecotherapy practitioner with a passion for all things Health and Nature – I believe both are intrinsically related. This passion extends out to a strong commitment to respect, protect and lovingly connect to our environment and Mother Nature, as we can’t have healthy humans on a sick planet. My professional background is in education/nature pedagogy, mindfulness, ecotherapy and holistic health modalities (see full details below). I am also the author of the multi-award-winning book “Roots and Wings – Childhood needs a Revolution”, a handbook for parents and educators to promote positive change based on the principles of mindfulness. Apart from my professional interests, I am the mum of two beautiful daughters, and like any parent, I want my children and future generations to grow up healthily and have a future on our beautiful Earth. There is no doubt we are living in challenging times and we are all affected by global changes in some way or another. The terms eco- and climate anxiety are becoming a firm part of our vocabulary and we need to rethink our approaches to education and healthcare. Multi-award winning Pigfoot Theatre tell stories about the climate and ecological crisis, with the least carbon impact possible. An associate company of English Touring Theatre (ETT), our work ‘practises what it preaches’ (The Sunday Times on Pigfoot) and protests within an industry which, in London alone, has a carbon footprint of 50,000 tonnes a year. Our bike-powered family comedy ‘How To Save A Rock’ has toured with ETT to Northern Stage and Theatre By The Lake, with Battersea Arts Centre & Found in Music, and with support from Slung Low to the Albany, Camden People’s Theatre, Poplar Union, the Pound Arts Centre, and more. HOT IN HERE (an energy-generating dance party), co-produced by the Gate Theatre, commissioned and supported by Camden People's Theatre, toured across the UK in Autumn 2022 to venues including Theatre by the Lake, York Theatre Royal, MAST Southampton, the North Wall Arts Centre, the egg Bath, mac Birmingham, ARC Stockton Arts Centre, Nonsuch Studios, and Contact Manchester. Our new show, Hostile Environments, supported by Boundless Theatre’s Accelerator programme, will begin development in 2023. We have also run workshops, delivered sustainability consultancy, and run engagement programmes for organisations including the National Theatre, Southbank Centre, Rambert, HOME Manchester, and Guildhall School of Speech and Drama. Pigfoot began in Oxford, producing site-specific work by the River Thames and at the Oxford Playhouse. The term Workie Ticket is a Geordie colloquialism, which means someone who likes to push one’s luck- a chancer or a cheeky trouble-maker. When JoJo Kirtley was a young lass, her Grandad Joe would call her, “a proper little workie ticket” and the nick-name stuck. So, when thinking of a name for her theatre company, it seemed the perfect choice and in 2017, Workie Ticket Theatre was founded. Our mission is to shake things up, be bold, push our luck within the theatre world and empower people through our work. JoJo Kirtley Founder & Co-Artistic Director “It’s hard being a woman in terms of what is happening in the current climate, but also I think there is a gap in the market for what we do and how we do it- working with women and encouraging them through theatre to tell their stories. Now is the time to speak up and speak out.” A writer, producer, facilitator and founder of Workie Ticket Theatre Company, JoJo Kirtley has been working for over a decade to create real social impact through theatre. Her work has been performed at The Lowry, Contact Theatre, The Exchange, (North Shields), Live Theatre and the 24:7 Theatre Festival. She is passionate about developing work within local communities to create a platform and raise awareness of issues that affect women in the North East region. JoJo is also a qualified teacher with a MA in Theatre Studies. She balances running Workie Ticket with being a mother and working for various women's organisations in the North East.
