As a freelance 'cello teacher I have many years of teaching experience from teaching in both the state and private sector. I have also work for Music Services, involving individual and group tuition, at junior and senior levels. I try and use many of the pedagogical ideas of the ‘Kodaly System’, especially when teaching beginners, with its emphasis on singing, musical games, rhythm and with the introduction of music-reading, fluency in the musical alphabet. Other areas of my work in education have always included close involvement in the production of lecture-recitals and demonstration workshops, mostly with the Astaria String Quartet, the Foundation for Music in Hospitals or in the past, Live Music Now! I have presented workshops and lecture-recitals for Arts Alive, Birmingham University, the City of Edinburgh Music School and the Education Department at Symphony Hall Birmingham, often to National Curriculum and National Lottery specifications. During the summer months, I have been a regular tutor on the 'Fantasia Music School' music course for many years. I have also researched authentic performance-practice and contemporary (classical) music, through both commissions and subsequent performances. This has led to intensive collaboration with eminent composers as well as time spent coaching student composers, giving me valuable insight into the creative process of compositions and the interpretive and technical difficulties for the performer. My own personal interest and inspiration has always been teaching, performing and coaching chamber music, specifically the genre of string quartets. As an experienced chamber musician, I have performed and coached the main works for string quartet, the chamber music for 'cello with flute, clarinet and piano as well as the solo repertoire for violoncello. I am also familiar with the orchestral repertoire, opera and theatre music, through extensive work as a freelance player. Please request my CV for my professional referees.

From a young age In Brazil, I received an extensive music education. I studied piano and clarinet and had experience with orchestra and choir. I loved the connection with my teachers, fellow students, and the music itself. Consequently, I studied conducting at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. I decided to deepen my studies in Europe, focusing on early music and voice which led me to live and work in France and Germany for 11 years. I obtained the Diplome d Etudes Musicales at the conservatorium of Strasbourg (France) and a Master of Music from the University of Trossingen (Germany). My studies included vocal technique and interpretation, historically informed practice, harpsichord, and baroque theatre. I was fortunate to study, and work professionally as a vocal coach, choir conductor, and sang with leading European figures and groups, in the world of early music. In 2016, I returned to Brazil and worked on two important projects: Guri and Anima. Guri is a long-standing very influential institution in Sao Paulo, which offers free music education to disadvantaged children. Anima is a renowned musical group with 30 years of intensive research on the musical imagination of Brazil. I was invited as a soloist singer to record its last CD, Mar Anterior which establishes a dialogue between the Afro tradition of Candomble and Portuguese songs composed by the medieval King D. We are very proud to maintain a 100% pass rate in all our student's instrumental and vocal music exams making us Edinburgh's favourite music school for private music lessons. One - to - one tuition Lessons are available for a range of instruments including voice, piano, guitar, violin, viola, cello, saxophone, clarinet, flute, recorder and drums. We offer one to one private lessons in our studio in Meadowbank or online lessons. Groups We offer a range of music group activities including our Baby music groups (for ages 0-5), youth singing groups, performance coaching workshops and summer school music groups. Please contact us to find out the groups that are currently available. Concerts At ESM we believe that learning to make incredible music is just not as rewarding if you don’t share it with others. We provide monthly showcases at Edinburgh's Jazz Bar in addition to end of term concerts. This gives our students plenty of opportunities to showcase their progress and develops our pupils into confident performers. Unfortunately, due to current restrictions surrounding concerts, we are unable to host any concerts at this time.

Award-winning conductor, pianist and composer, Claudio Di Meo has established himself internationally as an exceptional talent in orchestral and choral music, bringing clarity, integrity and dynamism to his interpretation of wide-ranging repertoire. Winner of the International Conducting Competition Westminster London with the London Classical Soloists, Claudio Di Meo began his musical life in Italy, where he studied piano, composition and conducting, winning First Prize at the Italian National Choir Conducting Competition in 2011 and First Prize at the Enrico Caruso International Competition in 2014. An ardent exponent of the music of Sibelius, Claudio is a member of the prestigious Sibelius Society Italia, whose Honorary President is Sir Antonio Pappano. Claudio Di Meo has performed regularly on the international stage, including appearances in Hungary (Olasz VendègKòrus Concert Hall, Budapest), Sri Lanka (A New Direction International Performing Arts Festival, Colombo), Mexico (Festival de las Almas, Valle de Bravo), Lebanon (Al Bustan Festival, Beirut), Singapore (The Silent Lines of Its Lips), Cyprus (Lefkoşa International Festival), France (La scene Parisienne), and the USA (2014 New Year Concert, St. John the Divine Cathedral, New York). In addition to conducting, Claudio Di Meo is widely experienced in film music, musical theatre and thematic musical stage productions as both pianist and composer. A specialist in Italian film music, Claudio Di Meo won a composition award in 2013 from the Governor of the State of Mexico and the Director of the National Conservatory in Mexico City in recognition of his “great professionalism and future potential as a composer of music for cinema.” Recent highlights include a production of Maria Callas The Black Pearl, which premiered in a series of performances at the prestigious Esplanade Theatre in Singapore and subsequently in Paris and at Grange Park Opera in England, with Claudio Di Meo as Music Director and composer.. Claudio Di Meo’s discography as a pianist includes recordings of Ravel’s Ma mère l’Oye and Debussy’s Six épigraphes antiques, as well as his own compositions Oceano di cielo and most recently, Memories, a collection of 10 pieces for solo piano. This collection has also been published by Upper Esk Music, alongside Three Motets for the Virgin Mary, a collection of his choral music. Claudio Di Meo recognises the importance of music education and is highly skilled in developing the talent of young performers. Appointed Principal Conductor of Dacorum Youth Orchestra in September 2015, Claudio Di Meo continues to inspire a new generation of musicians with his infectious enthusiasm and commitment to achieving high levels of performance. In October 2018 he was appointed Principal Conductor of the Hemel Symphony Orchestra and, as a freelance conductor, has been invited to work with other London-based orchestras, including the London Classical Soloists, Trinity Orchestra Harrow, and Watford Symphony Orchestra, among others. In May 2020 Claudio Di Meo has also been appointed Principal Conductor of the Kensington Philharmonic Orchestra, in London.

I’ve always been fascinated by people. In fact, I love people and the fact that we are all so different. And I love conversation. We live in a world which is ever-changing. We have to adapt and some of us find that easier than others. And I'm no exception to that. I’ve spent a good deal of my life finding out what makes people tick, and I didn’t even realise it was happening. And that’s how I came to discover my passion – helping people to change the way they see themselves and the world around them. To learn to love themselves again. To believe in themselves. To overcome stress or emotional pain, whatever the cause. And to begin enjoy life again. Just as I have. My own experiences and extensive training have helped me grow, and I know I will never stop growing and evolving. I still study, attend workshops and training to enhance my knowledge and skills. Although, of course, certificates are no indication of anyone's life experience, wisdom or compassion. When I'm not studying, I love travelling and have had many wonderful experiences. I love anything to do with the theatre, music and dance. I grew up in a theatrical world. I played clarinet, performed on stage from a very young age and have directed musicals. Now, I just love to watch. What's next? Watch this space! MY STORY We all have a story, whether it’s just a few chapters or an enormous long novel. I have my story too, and I’ve used it to change my life and completely turn it around. I'd been interested in spirituality and the mind-body connection for as long as I can remember, and a huge life change gave me opportunity to re-examine the way I lived my life. I really believe that we can change our lives by changing the way we see ourselves and what’s happening around us – our thoughts create our reality. If we let go of negative patterns and limiting beliefs, we can change our thoughts and change our lives. After living through and learning from the many challenges in my own life, I recognised the potential for helping others to embrace positive change into their lives as well. I still apply my training in my own life. Recovering from abuse, self-loathing, failed relationships, lack of confidence and many other things that troubled my past has changed my life completely, just as it can change yours. It doesn’t change what’s happened, you can’t change the past, but you can enjoy your life now and create a better future. I know from personal experience how powerful this can be. I can help you to see what’s holding you back, offering you support and guidance as you go forward and take control of your life. I can’t do the work for you, but I will support you all the way, for as long as you need. Wouldn’t that be great? Loving the life you live and living a life you love? I do, and so can you!
