Hammersmith Community Gardens Association is a local environmental charity set up in 1984. We manage four community gardens in Hammersmith and Fulham. HCGA has a range of projects which include conservation training schemes, volunteer gardening sessions, health and wellbeing projects, environmental playschemes and environmental education in local schools. We assist local groups in the design, plan and management of their green spaces. We promote environmental sustainability within the borough and manage our sites to maximise biodiversity and encourage wildlife. To reflect the expansion of our working to neighbouring boroughs in 2016 the charity adopted the working name of Healthy Community Gardening Activities (HCGA) The gardens are used as an educational resource by local schools, a site for volunteer gardening groups and in the holidays there are environmental play activities. As well as creating space for people the sites have also been designed to encourage wildlife. We run the community food growing area in Normand Park and work with local ‘Friends of’ groups to manage and promote their sites. In Westminster we run weekly gardening sessions in Queens Park Gardens, Westbourne Park and Penfold Street Hub. We support the Fisherton growing project with regular gardening sessions as well as by providing plants. In Westminster and The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea we deliver short Adult Education courses around gardening and herbal activities as well as a programme of walks. HCGA has a team of school gardeners who deliver environmental education sessions in schools on a weekly basis in three boroughs. These include formal curriculum-linked activities as well as lunchtime and after school clubs. We can also guide groups on how to make their premises more environmentally friendly and give technical growing advice. Through the Grow Well project we work with local people across the Hammersmith and Fulham borough to provide therapeutic gardening sessions for people who need a bit of extra support hopefully leading to participation in our regular volunteering sessions. The Get Out There! project offers local unemployed or socially isolated people the opportunity to learn new skills in basic environmental management such as habitat conservation, tool use and wildlife identification. Participants get the opportunity to visit and work on a range of different habitats across London as well as local sites in Hammersmith and Fulham. We also run a Men in Sheds programme at Godolphin Gardens for socially-isolated men. Our Volunteers maintain our gardens and contribute hundreds of hours of their time each year. Many of them have physical or mental health problems which prevent them from working in paid employment. We also host around 20 companies each year on corporate volunteering work days. As well as completing several physical tasks the companies make a donation to HCGA which covers staff time and materials. This is extremely valuable to us as it then funds the upkeep of the gardens.

The Mayor, Councillor Rob Appleyard The Charter Trustees of the City of Bath formally elected Councillor Rob Appleyard to serve the Office of Mayor at their Annual Meeting & Election of Mayor Ceremony on Saturday 28 May 2022. Rob moved into Bath 9 years ago from Westfield, where he had represented the community on the Parish Council from 2007 for 4 years. He was elected to Bath & North East Somerset Council in 2015 and re-elected in 2019 to represent the Lambridge Ward community. The many roles Rob has served as a Councillor include Chair of Bath & North East Somerset Council in 2012/13 and Deputy Mayor of the City of Bath in 2017/18. He has always looked to put people first and has served on the boards of Citizen Advice, B&NES Carers Centre, and social landlord Curo Group (9 yrs), and is focused on addressing inequalities in our communities. Rob holds several Trustee positions, which include the B&NES Dementia Action Alliance Charity. The theme Rob has chosen for his term in Office looks to recognise the range of groups and organisations that underpin the support and opportunities that exists within our City, with a special focus on children and their voice. He looks forward to having contact with everyone through his “Roots and Canopy of Our City” theme this year. In 2018, Dame Tessa Jowell led a call to action on behalf of all brain tumour patients to tackle brain tumours, recognising that too little progress has been made in the treatment of patients with this devastating disease. Lord O’Shaughnessy, the then Undersecretary of State for Health, responded by convening members of the brain tumour community to design a new national strategy. And so, the Tessa Jowell Brain Cancer Mission was formed by a group of passionate academics, doctors, members of professional and patient organisations and patients. Today, the national effort has grown in scale and size. The Tessa Jowell Brain Cancer Mission is now a Community Interest Company which manages and supports a national portfolio of several transformational programmes in the areas of research, trials, training and patients. Our work is funded and supported by the NIHR, The Tessa Jowell Foundation, CRUK, The Minderoo Foundation, The Brain Tumour Charity, Brain Tumour Research, Brainstrust, Brain Tumour Support and Act for Cancer. About CVU The Council of Validating Universities is the only body in the UK specialising exclusively in good practice and standards for that aspect of higher education which concerns the validation of programmes of study by universities and colleges (‘awarding institutions’) for delivery by other colleges or organisations (‘partner institutions’). The term ‘collaborative provision’ is often used to describe this form of partnership. Foundation and Remit The CVU was formed in 1982 and registered as a charity in 1996. It became incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee on 28th October 2004 (Company Number: 05272761). It is a non-statutory body comprising representatives from higher education institutions and other related organisations in the United Kingdom. Objectives: To advance education, including training and research, in particular by: keeping under review the concerns of degree-awarding institutions within the United Kingdom in relation to collaborative activity identifying and promoting good practice in collaborative validation. The CVU defines ‘collaborative provision’ as the process whereby a degree-awarding body judges one or more programmes of study, courses, or modules offered by another body to be appropriate to lead to a qualification and/or credit of that degree awarding body. The programmes of study may be designed and developed by either the degree-awarding body or the the other body or a partnership of the two. Collaborative validation therefore embraces the accreditation of institutions, the franchising of courses and other forms of academic association.

Chantal has always had a keen interest in dogs having worked in boarding kennels, a dog rescue centre and a large dog training and behaviour centre in Surrey before setting up her own company. Qualifications: BSc. (Hons) in Psychology COAPE Diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour Counselling, therefore a member of the COAPE Association of Pet Behaviourists and Trainers Member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (MAPDT 1068) Member of the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT) Scentwork UK trainer Chantal is also a trainer for Dog AID (Assistance In Disability), Registered Charity Number 1098619, a national voluntary organisation which provides specialised training for people with physical disabilities who wish to train their own pet dog, some up to Assistance Level. Chantal offers dog training and puppy training in Dorking, Ewell, Leatherhead and many other locations in Greater London and Surrey. It is a discipline that is constantly adapting and to keep up to date with new methods and techniques, Chantal regularly attends lectures and seminars by internationally renowned dog trainers and behaviourists such as Ken Ramirez, Emily Larlham and Kay Laurence. Chantal currently owns four dogs, a Border Collie and three Shelties. Chantal has competed at Olympia, won at Crufts, and has represented Team England in the World Agility Open and Team GB at the FCI Agility World Championships. She has also recently qualified to compete at IFCS with one of her Shelties.

I trained at the Wealden Institute, where I gained a Diploma in Counselling and studied Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy. I am an approved adoption counsellor registered through Barnardo's LINK Adoption Support Service, and I am a trained Cruse bereavement counsellor. I worked for five years with male survivors of sexual abuse at Mankind, a charity in Hove, and as a volunteer counsellor at Open Door, a project for 13-25 year olds in Eastbourne, for six years. As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I work within their Ethical Framework for Counselling Professions. I do not believe that there is a typical person or client, only that there are people who are in distress and are searching for help. I believe that “the relationship” between client and counsellor is at the heart of the work that I do, and it is this relationship that ultimately heals and promotes most growth and well being in a client. My approach is Person Centred and Integrative, as I believe that no one approach fits all. Therefore I draw on a variety of theoretical and creative methods. In accordance with BACP guidlines, I have supervision on my work, and I regularly undertake training as a commitment to my continuing professional development.
