YMCA Barnsley aims to empower young people by involving them in activities that stimulate, challenge and enable them to realise their potential and participate fully in their communities. Amity Educational Foundation was set up by parents and teachers who are inspired by the teachings of Muslim scholar and peace advocate Fethullah Gülen. Mr Gülen was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Education by Leeds Metropolitan University in 2010. We aim to support our beneficiaries via the implementation of social and educational activities which increases confidence, vision, and aspirations with respect to the wider world. Furthermore, we also like to complement cultural differences thus promote community cohesion.

Since then we have grown organically into a peer-led registered charity – we are now a network of over 400 people involved in a wide range of organised activities. As well as Insight meditation, some of us have practice backgrounds in traditions such as Quakerism or Tibetan and Zen Buddhism. Our approach emphasises inquiry, experiential exploration and mindfulness amongst many other influences. It is not important to hold particular beliefs or to consider yourself a Buddhist to attend our events, all are welcome. What we do have in common is an interest in our own personal development as part of a supportive community.

Maree and Charlotte have known each other in a professional capacity for over ten years and are keen to improve the provision for children and young people with SEND by supporting staff within education, health and social care. They are also keen to support parents and carers to navigate SEND processes to enable them to achieve the best possible outcomes for their children. Maree Thorn Maree filter Maree is an experienced teacher and SENCo who has worked in a wide variety of educational settings, including early years, primary, secondary, mainstream and special schools. She is currently commissioned by Bedford Borough Council as a SEND Teaching and Learning Advisor to support and advise local primary schools on their strategic SEND provision. She also provides specialist teaching for children and young people who cannot attend school for a variety of reasons, such as medical needs or school based anxiety. She has a Bachelor’s degree in primary education, Qualified Teacher Status, a Postgraduate Certificate in Special Educational Needs Coordination and has gained the National Award for SEN Co-ordination. She has previous experience of being a school governor, and is currently a trustee for a local charity foundation, sitting on the board of school governors and fostering committee. Maree has experience of supporting senior leaders to review their SEND processes and identify areas in need of improvement within their settings; mentoring and coaching staff to improve their individual practices; and supporting governors and trustees to understand school requirements and their responsibilities. Maree has a diagnosis of ADHD and so fully understands the challenges that people who are neurodivergent can experience. With a family history of special needs, she has long had an interest in ensuring children with SEND are able to achieve their own individual outcomes and giving them the best opportunities for a full and rich life.

Social Plugger was formed in 2019 as a direct response to the increasing shortcomings of the social care system. Coming from a background in music and charity work, founder Jae Kaae started experimenting with ways in which music could be utilised to support those with chronic health conditions. After observing first-hand the uplifting effect music had on his grandfather while battling the confusion of dementia, Jae began consulting with musicians, therapists and healthcare professionals to create digital wellness products that could effectively support those in similar situations. When the Covid-19 pandemic brought the stressors of isolation, loneliness and uncertainty into every home in Britain, we worked tirelessly to support those who needed help maintaining their mental health. Throughout the lockdowns, Social Plugger provided music therapy listening sessions to help people cope with anxiety and insomnia, and to maintain their general personal wellbeing.

Folkestone's Local Radio Station 105.9 Academy FM is the Community Radio station for the Folkestone area, and an educational charity. We are unique and won School Radio Station of the Year and BBC Sounds Rising Talent Awards at the Young Audio Awards. We've also won national Community Radio Awards in 2016, 2017 and 2018 for our broadcasting and educational work. We are based in the Folkestone Academy school, and broadcast to the local area on 105.9 FM and online. We have a small team of staff and a large group of volunteers. Our charitable educational work is mainly with young people - they are trained in radio production and along the way learn self-confidence and communication skills, and we run projects on literacy, science, the arts, heritage and many more subjects. We broadcast a vibrant mix of chart hits and classic tunes, and many interviews.
