London

At Solihull, we pride ourselves on ensuring that all pupils realise their full potential. Our central aim is to provide for every pupil as rich a life as possible so that school fosters fulfilment, happiness and success; a preparation for life as a good adult in society. Teaching is excellent and our examination results speak volumes about the progress Silhillians make in their studies. Our most recent inspection graded us at the highest level in all areas of school life. Our pupils enjoy outstanding facilities and a wide-ranging and comprehensive co-curricular programme. Solihull School excels on the sports field, on the stage, in the debating chamber and in the concert hall; and pupils benefit from many enriching cultural excursions at home and abroad. Boys and girls are encouraged to develop as individuals in a caring and civilised environment, and our strong pastoral care network underpins the many and varied successes enjoyed by pupils. We uphold traditional values in a global community, emphasising the importance of high moral standards and ethical conduct. Many Old Silhillians have gone on to be pioneers and leaders in their chosen fields and these qualities are honed here at school. Pupils are actively encouraged to develop their leadership skills, to take responsibility for others and to serve the local, national and international communities. Solihull School is a beacon of excellence and I hope that our prospectus and website give you a feel for the character and high expectations that pervade all areas of school life. However, to appreciate our ethos and happy atmosphere fully, I would urge you to visit the school, either at one of our formal open events or at any other convenient time. Solihull School was founded in 1560 and is very proud of its place within the community. In 2020 Solihull merged with Saint Martin's School to create a leading independent coeducational 3 - 18 day school across two campuses, with Solihull Preparatory School on the Saint Martin's campus and Solihull Senior School on the Warwick Road campus.

The London Suzuki Group ( LSG ) was founded in 1972 and was the first group in the United Kingdom to teach music by the Suzuki Method. With 60 qualified teachers and over 600 children currently receiving tuition, the LSG runs individual and group classes, orchestral and chamber music courses, workshops and an annual residential summer course at Bryanston School in Dorset. The group offers instruction in violin, viola, cello, piano, flute, recorder and voice. Public and private concerts are regularly organised at venues throughout London and elsewhere, providing much more than the opportunity to learn an instrument. Children and parents form lasting friendships. Parents and teachers are able to share experience and ideas. Music, and the love of music, becomes a natural part of the life of the whole family. Talent is not a prerequisite The Suzuki approach stimulates and develops musical abilities inherent in all children. Despite its sustained record of success exemplified in the many distinctions won by LSG students in music examinations, competitions and scholarships to major schools and conservatoires, the LSG’s overriding achievement is the provision of joy through music making, and the enrichment of the lives of the families involved in the learning process. You can find out more about the Suzuki Method through our website. If you are interested in finding a Suzuki teacher If you are interested in finding a Suzuki teacher, please have a look at our Teacher Profile page. Group class, in addition to individual instruction, gives children the opportunity to learn from one another.Visit our Group Class page for more information. You must sign up for individual lessons before joining a group, and your lesson teacher will be able to help you with this. In most cases, your teacher will ask you to observe classes and register as a member of LSG before you begin lessons. Your teacher will be able to answer any questions you may have about becoming a member. Registration and direct debit forms are available on our website under membership. Please contact us if you have any questions about joining the LSG. We hope to see you at one of our many LSG concerts, courses, or group classes in the near future.

We’re passionate about keeping the craft of ceramics alive. Studio ceramics is coming under increasing threat with its neglect in the education syllabus at primary and secondary levels, whilst further and higher education courses are quietly dropped or subsumed into other disciplines. Our involvement in the promotion of ceramics within education has grown as the need to protect and nurture the subject has intensified. We have an unspoken but deep understanding that we should do everything in our power to promote the role of ceramics in our schools, colleges and universities as well as in the wider community. We hope that our efforts to provide a comprehensive programme of courses and workshops each year will go some way to ensuring the survival of this discipline in the years to come. Potclays Kilns Potclays is a specialist kiln manufacturer and we make a wide variety of high quality electric and gas fired kilns for ceramics and other heat treatment processes. These range in size from around 12 litres (0.4cu.ft) chamber capacity mini-kilns to truck kilns of over 2 cu.metres (70cu.ft) capacity. Many of these are specially built to customers' requirements. We also manufacture elements to fit most makes of kiln. Paint Your Own Pottery Supplies Potclays is one of the largest Paint-Your-Own-Pottery (PYOP) suppliers in the UK and is expanding overseas too. We supply a huge range of brush-on glazes, stains, colours, plaster moulds and bisque ware from several sources including US market leaders such as L&L Kilns, Mayco & Bisque Imports. We also supply a wide range of affordable and high-quality brushes from Mayco and Royal & Langnickel. Our high quality 'Potclays White' casting slip is manufactured at our factory in Stoke-on-Trent. We run PYOP teachers' certification programs and hands-on courses for all skill levels, from beginner to expert. Many of our courses are run with the generous support of Mayco Colors, enabling us to charge low course fees. The Potters Clay and Coal Company The fireclays from our PCC clay mines are exceptionally plastic and also pale-burning. Consequently, they are used in pottery, brick, tile and vitreous china bodies as a part replacement for more expensive ball clays. We also supply sealant clays for lakes and waterways and other civil engeering projects. Our puddle clay was used in the construction of parts of the M6 motorway, notably Spaghetti Junction, and most recently by the Lichfield & Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust.
