Over the past 50 years the company has gone from strength to strength continuing to deliver core training such as HGV and CPC driving tuition and testing, whilst evolving our training services to other disciplines within the sector. We now provide training to a range of logistic and transport operations and personnel as well as individuals looking to advance their own skills or professional qualifications.

PETA was founded in 1970 by Alex Zemenides who, at the time, was Managing Director of component manufacturing company Sealectro. At the time, Zemenides felt there was a lack of training and development opportunities for his staff in the local area. Training that could be tailored to his staff and business, that met industry and commercial standards and that didn’t have to work around a rigid syllabus or programme. Together with five other local businesses, he created the Portsmouth Engineering Training Association – PETA – that was based in Southsea, Portsmouth. The combined vision of this group was to establish an organisation, controlled by local business, that would be free from external influences to concentrate on the training and development of people employed, or about to be employed, in industry and commerce. As such, PETA was set up to be (and still is) a registered charity, directed by an executive council of leaders elected from our member base. There are no shareholders at PETA, only stakeholders. We operate on a self-financing basis and are non-profit making, which means all our funds are reinvested into the services and training we deliver. Whilst our heritage is in engineering, today, PETA offers over 200 courses and apprenticeship programmes in the most sought after professional, digital and technical skillsets – from management training to health and safety qualifications, IT skills and engineering. Today, PETA is one of the largest and most respected training providers on the south coast and we will continue to build on this reputation, transforming careers and building the next generation of business leaders and technical experts.

Fastrack is a structured modular commercial pilot training course which takes our students from Zero to fATPL, CPL, MEP & MEIR which has all the advantages of a fully integrated course whilst remaining modular. This means that our students are in control of their own schedules and can train around work, family and financial commitments on a pay as they learn basis.

Brighton Swimming School has been offering swimming lessons to both children and adults in Brighton for over 25 years, teaching over 1000 swimmers a week. Founded in 1988 by Paul Smith, Brighton Swimming School started as a small, one week intensive course that has slowly grown into the varied and successful programme you see today. Our main pool is our own, at the Brighton Swimming Centre. The swimming school provides three, twelve week terms as well as intensive courses during all school holidays. These are great for our regular swimmers and new customers, acting as a great way to boost children's swimming skills and technique. BSS has always been developed quality at the forefront and our greatest asset is our staff. Our staff are carefully selected to ensure high standards of teaching and safety, helping to promote the excellent relationship we already enjoy with our swimmers and their parents. Our teachers all hold an ASA Level 2 teaching qualification, whilst our assistants hold an ASA Level 1 qualification. Safety is central to our aims and each session is overseen by two RLSS qualified lifeguards along with a supervisor to manage poolside. All our staff are DBS checked.
