STAA is a small charity based at the historic St Anns Allotments site, just a mile from the bustling city centre of Nottingham. STAA manages a number of highly regarded projects across 30+ plots at St Anns Allotments providing community benefit & offering a wide variety of volunteering opportunities. Our projects make a significant contribution to the upkeep of this amazing Grade 2* listed heritage site and the preservation of habitat and wildlife in the urban oasis at St Anns Allotments. STAA was initially established in 1997, from a local campaign group that came together with the prime objective of saving and protecting the St Anns Allotment site (Hungerhill Gardens, Stonepit Coppice Gardens and Gorseyclose Gardens) from redevelopment. STAA became a registered charity in 1998 and over the course of 20 years have been key partners in the delivery of large-scale infrastructure and Heritage Lottery Fund projects which have contributed to the restoration and regeneration of St Anns Allotments. Our research projects have also captured much of the St Anns Allotments’ unique history. STAA managed the allotment site and tenancies until December 2017 through a service level agreement with Hungerhill Developments Ltd. The site is now managed directly by HDL. In July 2020, STAA converted to a Foundation CIO* and continues its commitment to protecting, preserving and promoting the heritage, horticultural, wildlife and community value of St Anns Allotments. STAA works inside and outside the site gates with local schools, community groups and partner organisations to promote the heritage of the site, provide education and volunteering opportunities along with social welfare, recreational and leisure activities to improve the wellbeing of our wider communities in St Ann’s, Mapperley and inner-city Nottingham. I’ve been working with herbs for more than a decade. Initially it was a passion for learning more about the plants that grew about me through foraging and home herbalism. Then I began to focus on growing them when I spent a year working on the herb field at the Organic Herb Trading Company. Finally I trained as a herbalist at the Irish School of Herbal Medicine for 4 years, which included 600 clinic hours and an in-depth study of herbs, the human body and vitalism. I graduated with a Licentiate in Herbal Medicine and diploma in Iridology and Nutrition in 2017 and I am now in my 5th year of working as a herbalist in Fife. My previous background is in organic food production and I previously co-established and ran Meadowsweet Organics’ market garden in Falkland, Fife. My herbal business was previously called The Meadowsweet Herbal Apothecary in connection to the farm, and I grew lots of medicinal herbs for tea blends, wholesale and my own dispensary.

Students will first have a demonstration on the use of tools and mixing plaster, preparation of walls so they know what to do. Each person will have there own bay to work in. Students will then have a chance to work on there own bays and at there own pace. A service will be provided after the course if you need advice on any jobs you are planning to do.Anyone who's serious about starting a course in plastering immediately faces a steep learning curve. However, if you want to 'shortcut' the process (and cut down on the months, even years of trail and error that most people face) The Mark Wightman Training Centre is the ideal starting place.The courses we hold are very much hands on, with tools and equipment initially explained and demonstrated by instructors. The courses are all practical and as a result you will get dirty! So you should bring with you some appropriate clothing. We will supply all the tools, materials and safety equipment you will be using while you are here. We also require all students to wear protective footwear i.e. boots you don't mind getting dirty.
