BAPIO actively promotes the principles of diversity and equality with the aim of “Empowering doctors and dentists to be beacons of leadership and professional excellence.” Over the years the Association has grown in stature and influence. It is represented through active divisions covering all the English Regions as well as Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It is now one of the largest organisations of its type in the country. BAPIO is a non-party political membership organisation. It actively contributes to the cause of promoting access to better health care globally and responds to aid victims of natural disasters in the world.

Back pain is one of the most common conditions that people live with in the UK today. The vast majority of us are likely to be affected by back pain at some point in our lives. For most it will be a short lived experience but for others back pain is ongoing and affects quality of life, making ordinary daily tasks difficult or at worst simply impossible to perform. Chronic back pain can result in depression, low self esteem, unemployment, the breakdown of relationships and more. Here at BackCare we provide information and education to prevent unnecessary back pain from occurring in the first place. However, whilst prevention is better than cure, we also understand that not all back pain is avoidable. A large part of our work at BackCare is to provide practical and emotional support to people living with back pain whether caused through wear and tear, injury, musculoskeletal disorders such as Scoliosis, Spina Bifida, Arthritis and Axial SpA or other serious underlying health conditions like Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, or Cancer, for example. BackCare was the brainchild of businessman and philanthropist, Stanley Grundy who in 1968, set about creating a charity dedicated to those living with back pain, regardless of cause and educating the public in ways of preventing back pain. Today, some 50 years on, we remain resolute in our efforts to significantly reduce the burden of back and neck pain by working together with people and organisations and those affected by such pain and providing information, guidance and advice to all. We are proud to have HRH The Prince of Wales as our Patron.

I first started yoga to stretch and strengthen my muscles. I am naturally very inflexible, and wanted to touch my toes. Long working hours and high intensity training were beginning to take a toll on my body, but I discovered yoga was the perfect partner to my busy lifestyle. I was able to switch off like I’d never been able to before. When I was on the mat, my to-do list could wait, and I was able to find calm and focus. As the weeks went by I felt stronger, more relaxed. And I was able to touch my toes for the first time! Fast forward, and I’m still a busy worker bee with a full-time and demanding day job. Yoga is a key part of my life, helping me to find more balance. I made the step to become a yoga teacher to help other busy people. I’ve created Worker Bee Yoga to help people with hectic lives find an hour a week to take care of their bodies and minds. My goal is to guide you to unlock the benefits of yoga for yourself. To help you build flexibility and strength. To support you to move outside of your comfort zone. To find a little focus and slow down using your breath. Everyone’s experience of yoga is different, but I believe that self-discovery is at its heart. With patience and practice you can achieve any goal you set, and I hope to play a small part in your journey.

Inspired by the natural colours and textures of the earth, Naked Clay Ceramics is a collection of quiet, tactile, minimal style tableware and homeware in black stoneware and white porcelain. Using a combination of handbuilding and slip casting, everything is made by hand in my studio in Bedfordshire. At high temperatures the clay dances in the kiln. When they leave the kiln these pieces don’t conform to the symmetrical perfection and uniformity found in factory made items. Each is individual and unique. The pieces are fired with no glaze on the outside so that the feel of the natural, fired clay can be appreciated. I hope that tactile connection brings an opportunity to pause, breathe and savour a small moment in the hustle and bustle of life. I hand make a limited number of items 3-4 times a year, available online and at events. These small batches are crafted with care, knowing that each item will be an intentional and valued addition to someone’s home or collection.
