Whitchurch

HorseWorld is a charity dedicated to saving the lives of abandoned, neglected and mistreated horses, ponies and donkeys. The organisation cares for more than 100 horses, ponies and donkeys at its Bristol site and provides after-care and support for around 200 more, who have been re-homed throughout the South-West. The charity also runs the innovative Discovery educational programme. HorseWorld's vital 365-days-a-year animal welfare work is funded by voluntary donations. You can help transform the lives of horses, ponies and donkeys. HorseWorld is not open to the public on a day-to-day basis but it holds Open Days throughout the year. Please see the events page for details. HorseWorld's Registered Charity number is 1121920 Background The charity began life in 1952 as "The Friends of Bristol Horses Society" in a campaign to save the lives of working horses who were rapidly being replaced by motorised vehicles in industry. Under the banner of “Retirement Not Slaughter” - for many were destined for the abattoir - the charity offered a safe haven in Bristol for the big-hearted horses, ponies and donkeys that had worked all their lives on the railways, in the dockyards, the coal mines, the roads and for the armed forces. Decades later working horses are largely a memory of the past. But there is still a very real demand for this work - to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home up to 100 abandoned, neglected and mistreated horses every year. Glen Park Primary School

glen park primary school

2DE,

Glen Park Primary is a two-form entry school set in wonderful grounds in Plympton. We are very proud of our school and the achievement and attitudes of our pupils. On the 1st September 2016, Glen Park Primary converted to academy status, and we are a member of the Westcountry Schools Trust. This is a collaboration of 13 primary and 5 secondary schools. We are very excited about the opportunities that the Trust and collaboration between the schools offers and supports us in our own school development and sharing of best practice. For further information about the Westcountry Schools Trust and to visit the Trust's website please click here. Our aim is simple; to ensure the best possible outcomes in terms of progress and attainment for every pupil, by providing the highest quality teaching and learning possible. We are extremely fortunate to have a highly committed staff who share the common aim of wanting to give your child the best possible start in life. Not only do we strive to achieve the highest level in literacy, numeracy and all round education, but we also work hard to ensure your children are safe, happy and contribute to our excellent standards of behaviour. In May 2019 the school received a Section 8 Ofsted Inspection. This was a single day inspection as the school was previously judged to be ‘good’ during our last inspection in 2012. The purpose of a short Section 8 inspection is to determine whether the school continues to provide a good standard of education and whether safeguarding is effective. We were delighted that the school secured the highest possible outcome from the process. Ofsted have concluded that whilst the school continues to offer our children a ‘good’ level of provision, there is sufficient evidence to suggest that the school may be judged outstanding if it received a full Section 5 inspection now. This means Ofsted will return to the school within the next 12-24 months to carry out a full Section 5 inspection. The HMI who carried out the inspection judged the school to have made significant process in a number of key areas. A copy of the inspection letter can be accessed here. Our curriculum is rich and vibrant, and we understand that every child is unique and at Glen Park Primary we care very much about the all-round development of every individual. We believe strongly that the education of your child has to be a partnership between home and school where there is an established bond of trust and support. This is something that we work hard to achieve, and my door is always open to parents, staff, prospective parents and of course our children. I value what everyone has to say, no matter how small they are! If you are an existing member of our school community, I hope you enjoy looking at all our photos of the rich curriculum that we have to offer and finding up to date information about our school. If you are a visitor or a prospective parent, I hope you find our website useful. If you would like to find out more about the school, then please contact us to make an appointment to come and meet us.

I am a freelance designer-maker, applied artist, crafts-woman, whatever you want to call me – I stitch stuff by hand; fabric, metal, porcelain, leather, vitreous enamel.. . My work is various, it depends whether I am working for myself, to commission or collaborating with other artists. But whatever I do is slow to make; detailed hand stitching in any material whether in silk, linen, wool or wire takes time, consequently my work is also slow to evolve. I decided to show on this site what I do, who I am work with, how I work and also how I think. I want to show the work behind HER WORK not just the finished things. The journey from the first idea, searching, researching, drawing, sampling and eventually making the finished piece. You will be able to watch my work progress, or not; maybe by seeing this record people will come to value making that is manufactured by hand, heart and eye. In May 2010 I developed – Heart Space Studios ( from my yoga practice “Put your Hands in your Heart Space”) and for 5 years it was a space in Bristol England for all things textile. The activities at the studios can still be viewed – I closed the studio workshops in 2015 – the classes remain on this site as part of the blog, they contain many of my most popular posts….. Heart Space Studios continues as a group of makers who develop projects primarily for publishing companies. Most notably we work with designer Kaffe Fassett in the production of his patchwork quilt books and other fabrics.

Adderley Nursery School

adderley nursery school

1HN,

Adderley is a very child-centred nursery, which means that children spend much of their day engaged in self-directed learning. The majority of the day is free-flow, meaning children choose to engage in a range of different activities, indoors and outdoors. Children engage in activities independently and with their friends, as well as taking part in adult facilitated activities that are planned from children's interests and developmental needs. We believe that at this young age children learn best through a play-based curriculum, with support from our experienced staff team who engage with children in their play to support social interaction, language development and further learning opportunities. Some key attributes we seek to develop in children include self-confidence, problem solving and independence. 2-4s Unlike many other settings, at Adderley our two to four year olds are all part of the same unit. They share the same space and access the same activities. The Nursery is led by qualified early years' teachers and experienced qualified Nursery Practitioners. Key Person Each child & family has a named key practitioner. This offers the opportunity for a special relationship to develop. The key practitioner builds a close relationship by acting as a companion for the child & being mindful to the needs of the child during each day. The key practitioner acts as a champion for child & parent. Sharing information and creating opportunities to talk with parents builds trust & partnership. Settling-in is a crucial time. Transitions Each child and family is unique. Before starting Nursery, we offer all children and families a pre-entry induction meeting at Nursery and sometimes a home visit. We have new children starting every term. We have a range of base areas that offer a place of security for children to explore the Nursery. The Loft Room and Green Room provision support our youngest children to make smooth transitions from home to Nursery. There are seamless internal transitions to Studio 1 and Studio 2 for older children. Studio 1 and Studio 2 offer continuity and progression. We work together to support the settling process. When parents feel comfortable in the setting it helps their children to settle. During the Summer Term we work closely with neighbouring primary schools to offer smooth transitions to Reception. Children leave with excellent primary school readiness. Rhythm of the Day Adderley feels like home. We create Rhythm in the Nursery through our daily routine. Some children arrive early for breakfast and stay for tea. These are nurturing, social times. For most children in Nursery the day begins with meeting & greeting by the key person. A group time with the key person takes place on entry to meet & plan learning (breathing in) (15 minutes). This is followed by a period of child-initiated play indoors & outdoors (breathing out & exploring the world) (90 minutes). A group time at end of the session to share food, reflect, share stories and singing (breathing in) (15 minutes). About the Nursery Rhythm also comes through personal care routines. Nappy changing, changing clothes, washing, eating, quiet/resting/sleeping times are learning and development times for key person and child. Children experience the seasons and feel connected to nature and its lifecycle. There is a planned yearly timetable for looking after the garden and visits to parks. There are unplanned spontaneous experiences connected to weather. Children participate in real experiences like shopping, gardening, cooking and caring for living creatures and plants Food and Nutrition We are passionate about fresh, healthy food that tastes great. The right nutrients can affect everyone's mood, behaviour, health, growth and even their ability to concentrate. Encouraging a well-balanced diet establishes healthy eating now and for the future. We offer hot meals that are brought onto site by specialist caterers in education establishments. The children also have access to a morning snack of fruit with water available throughout the day. We offer breakfast and tea to children who are with us for longer days. The children grow some of our food in the garden. Governing Body The Governing body plays a key role in overseeing the practice and ethos of the school. They provide challenge and support to the Executive Head teacher and leadership team. If you would like to be involved please ask at Reception. Annual Data At Adderley we track children's learning and development termly, seeking to ensure that children make good or better progress and continue to be stimulated and challenged by their nursery experiences. This information is shared with families at termly reviews. We also use this data to identify curriculum development priorities. Working with Parents We value parental input very highly. We are always looking for parents to join our Governing Body which s a way to be involved in the direction that Adderley takes moving forwards. Each term parents meet with their child's Key person and contribute to identifying 'next steps' for their child's learning and development. We encourage families to share children's learning experiences from home through the Tapestry documentation tool.

About Charmayne James  2019 www.charmaynejames.com. All rights reserved Web Design by Frank Turben - Computer HelpCHARMAYNE’S BEGINNINGCharmayne came by her horsemanship talents naturally. Her dad, who always had an eye for good horses, worked as a feedlot cowboy before becoming an owner and operator of cattle feeding, ranching and farming interests in Clayton, New Mexico. Her grandfather was a cowman and steer roper. Her great-grandfather was a Choctaw Indian Light Horseman. Her mother was a rodeo queen who also barrel raced and team roped. Her grandmother was a World War I nurse who returned home and broke horses on the family’s dude ranch.Charmayne grew up at her dad’s feedlot in Clayton. She took ballet and piano lessons, but her favorite activity was riding. Attending schools in Clayton, she was an honor roll student and excelled in art, basketball and track, but was always anxious to get home from school to ride.Charmayne learned to ride bareback on an old cowpony called Redbug, and was always trying to keep up with her older sisters who had begun running barrels. As a member of 4-H, her projects included steers and horses. At age 10 her horse Creamer was named Grand Champion Gelding at the Union County Fair. She had trained Creamer to run barrels and that year won her first All Around Cowgirl title riding Creamer, a borrowed rope horse, and her sister’s pole bending horse.Charmayne and Creamer receiving awards for Grand Champion Gelding at the Union County FairKnowing her horse Creamer was not fast enough to win bigger barrel races, Charmayne wanted another horse. Her sister’s barrel horse, Bardo Deck was for sale, so her Dad bought him and turned the high strung former California race horse over to Charmayne. After a couple months of constant riding alongside the feedlot cowboys working cattle, chasing antelope across the vast grasslands, and many trips around the barrels, Charmayne and Bardo were winning nearly every area barrel race they entered.Late in 1981 Bardo broke his leg in a tragic accident and had to be euthanized. Charmayne was heartbroken. That winter she buried herself in school activities while telling her parents she had to get another horse. In the spring of 1982, after taking Charmayne to look at horses throughout the 5 State area, her dad, partly out of desperation, told Charmayne he liked a little bay horse down in the feedyard horse pens that was for sale. Charmayne countered that she had to have a race horse, but agreed to try the little bay. Before Charmayne got on him, her Dad told her not to kick him out at first because he was known to buck. Charmayne got on and after a few bucks she circled back and put him around the barrels. The two were an instant match. Charmayne paid $1200 for him with the rodeo winnings she had saved while riding Bardo. Her Dad said that was way too much money. They named him “Scamper” because of the way he scampered around the barrels.Scamper had never seen a barrel, but had an excellent handle on him from all the feedyard riding. In the spring of 1982, after two weeks of training on barrels, Charmayne and Scamper won their first barrel race. That summer they won numerous barrel races and amateur rodeos in New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. That fall Scamper was kicked in the hock by another horse. Their vet recommended turning him out for six months with a 50-50 chance he would come back sound. In April of 1983, when Scamper was 7, Charmayne began riding him again. At a vet checkup, after seeing Scamper’s ringbone, splints, and enlarged hock, Charmayne was told she had better get another horse going because Scamper “was not going to last”. By that summer she was winning amateur rodeos, sometimes by a full second. After entering with a WPRA permit, and winning the barrel race at the PRCA Dodge City Roundup Rodeo, Charmayne told her parents she wanted to start going to professional rodeos. They told her that was alright with them, but she would have to pay all her own rodeo expenses. When her dad asked her if she was going to try to make the National Finals Rodeo, she replied “No, I’m going to win the NFR”. She purchased her WPRA card later that year and began her professional rodeo career. This began one of the most amazing rodeo careers in history. In 1994, after winning an unprecedented 10 World Championships, 6 National Finals Rodeo Championships, and over $1,000,000 in arena winnings, Charmayne retired Scamper. Her ability to care for Scamper and keep him running at the top of his game for over 10 years attests to her knowledge and talents. This was a phenomenal feat for the horse that “was not going to last”.After retiring Scamper, Charmayne continued to achieve the eluding and difficult accomplishment of qualifying for the next 6 straight National Finals Rodeos with several different horses. In 2000 she qualified for the National Finals Rodeo and was Reserve World Champion with Cruiser, a former race horse she had purchased for $2,000 at New Mexico’s Clovis Livestock Auction and trained to run barrels. In 2002 she qualified for her 19th consecutive National Finals Rodeo riding Cruiser, winning her 7th National Finals Rodeo and 11th World Championship Title.

Existential Dialogue 2025: "Difference" with Dr. Todd DuBose

By Therapy Harley Street

Sanity is privileged over insanity, which is stigmatized. A therapoet views differences without hierarchy, valuing each unique expression. We aim to explore the lived experiences on irregular perceptions of reality with an open mind. Each Saturday includes: a live dialogue between Prof. Ernesto Spinelli and an International Existential Therapist; a moment to share your thoughts and feelings with the teachers; and a final integration facilitated by Bárbara Godoy. This series of ten dialogues set out to explore the multifaceted dimentions and complexities associated with Existential Therapies. It attempts to engage with various interpretations of insanity through the lens of patients often painful, confounding, and deeply unsettling life experiences. Difference - between Prof. Ernesto Spinelli and Dr. Todd DuBose "Sanity and insanity have been situated in relation to each other on a hierarchical scale that privileges sanity over, beyond, above, and more than its “less than” subjugated copy, insanity. Framed in this way, insanity can only be stigmatized, devalued and pathologized, while sanity is that to which we are to strive, uphold, and genuflect. The therapoet as a phenomenological hermeneutic horizontalizes a spectrum of “sayings of suffering souls”, or “befallings”, which is the originally meaning of “symptom”, not as a pathogen to be excised. Countering supremacist hierarchies of sanity/insanity, or health/illness, the therapoet sees difference, not as deficient, but just different, anew, and not in relation to any centric norm, but just to other differences. The relation to other differences is a relative gradation, whose incomparability resists any kind of nothing-but-ism any more than a fish can be said to be nothing but a squirrel with fins, or dirt as nothing but dry water. The therapoet, therefore, attends to each showing or saying of the suffering soul, sufficient in itself, as it is, in its own way of presencing, by being with it, letting it be, without why.” Dr. Todd DuBose. Dr. Todd DuBose is a world-renowned, Distinguished Full Professor at The Chicago School’s College of Professional Psychology. He teaches philosophical foundations of practices of care, ethics, loss and mourning, psychology and spirituality, psychopathology, among other courses, all from a human science perspective, and with a particular focus on therapoetic care. He is a licensed psychologist, supervisor, consultant, and former chaplain, with over thirty-five years of experience. He holds degrees in continental and comparative philosophy of religion and existential-hermeneutical-phenomenological human science clinical psychology and integrates these approaches as a way of caring for such experiences as the impossible (no way out, boundary or limited situations), extreme experiences (such as psychosis, nihilism, suicidal and homicidal ideation), and the taboo (the places no one wants to go: the unwanted and unacceptable, unsayable, unforgiveable, forbidden, and irreverent). He regularly presents workshops in several international venues such as the Circulo de Estudios en Psicoterapia Existential, in Mexico City, Mexico, the Zhi Mian International Institute of Existential-Humanistic Psychology in Dali, China, and the Centre for Existential Practice in Melbourne, Australia. He is widely published and has written on caring for others in very difficult situations including traumatic loss, surviving the COVID-19 pandemic, and meaninglessness. He has also written a short dialogue with Miles Groth, edited by Loray Daws, called, Dialogues on The Soul of Existential Therapy, published by The Society for Existential Analysis. Most of all, he considers himself simply a fellow human being. Prof. Ernesto Spinelli was Chair of the Society for Existential Analysis between 1993 and 1999 and is a Life Member of the Society. His writings, lectures and seminars focus on the application of existential phenomenology to the arenas of therapy, supervision, psychology, and executive coaching. He is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS) as well as an APECS accredited executive coach and coaching supervisor. In 2000, he was the Recipient of BPS Division of Counselling Psychology Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession. And in 2019, Ernesto received the BPS Award for Distinguished Contribution to Practice. His most recent book, Practising Existential Therapy: The Relational World 2nd edition (Sage, 2015) has been widely praised as a major contribution to the advancement of existential theory and practice. Living up to the existential dictum that life is absurd, Ernesto is also the author of an on-going series of Private Eye novels.
