We are delighted to introduce to you Scallywags Children’s Nursery Loanhead. Opening in May 2016 we are a 50 place nursery, designed to a high spec in the heart of Loanhead. Situated on Academy Lane we have access to safe, traffic free, public footpaths and cycle ways to allow our children and staff safe trips out in to the local community. At Scallywags we are firm believers that children “Learn through play” and therefor offer a vast array of activities for children of all ages. With safety always being a top priority at Scallywags we have installed a camera buzzer entry system to the building and secure keypad entry systems to each playroom ensuring staff and children remain safe at all times. Your child will be cared for in welcoming surroundings harmonising closely with your normal daily routine. Our caring and energetic staff provide a stimulating environment to encourage your child’s development, noting each milestone along the way in your child’s Learning Journal. We pride ourselves on working with the local community and currently have a spare room in the nursery which will allow us to hold extra-curricular classes accessible to children attending Scallywags Loanhead. I bet you’ve landed here because your dog's prey drive is driving you mad. You’ve probably asked everybody you know plus the gurus of Facebook – that’s what I did with my first high prey drive dog – and are no closer to answers than you were at the start. Do you know what? It doesn’t have to be hard. All you need is a bit of know how and I can give that to you no problem. I love high prey drive dogs. Prey drive is part of the template for a dog - AND our domestic dogs have been selectively bred to enhance some parts of it. I am on a mission to help you understand your dog's prey drive - and learn to see how you can work with it to make both of your lives better. In fact, I chose the breed of my first dog in large part because they are meant to have a low prey drive. It wasn't something I wanted to deal with. I avoided hounds, terriers, herding breeds, gundog breeds - and instead got myself a Bullmastiff. Do you know what? It didn't work. He would chase deer for long distances and he would kill and eat rabbits. And then he became aggressive toward other dogs. I started learning. I became a Tellington TTouch Practitioner and I spent 5 years at Bishop Burton College doing a BSc (hons) in Canine Behaviour and Training. My dog was transformed. No more chasing wildlife and no more being aggressive toward other dogs. So . . . A blonde collie cross dog stands in deep snow, looking at the camera. enter Cuillin. I was done with behaviour problems and wanted a dog who was going to be better at heelwork to music than my Bullmastiffs. Cuillin was a Collie cross and I had big plans for us. Until he reached a year or so old and started hunting. And then disappearing for hours at a time. There were lots of tears from me when that started happening. So I started learning again. I worked at it until I understood how to work with Cuillin so that he could do what he loved and I wasn't left waiting around for hours. I was hooked. A black and tan Cocker Spaniel sits in a wild spot surrounded by cotton grass. I went back to Bishop Burton to study again. This time for an MSc in Applied Animal Behaviour and Training. I was lucky that during first year of the course, Serendipity the cocker spaniel came into my life. I spent my time studying and carrying out research into prey drive in dogs while also practicing every single day with my glorious young high prey drive dog. I passed my MSc with distinction and a fire to share my wealth of knowledge about reward-based, effective and kind training for high prey drive dogs. Ethics in dog training are a key part of my business. Many years ago - long before I ever had dogs - I spent 4 years at Glasgow University getting an honours degree in Philosophy. That time helped me to see that ethics are so important.

SOULFUL VISION was born out of Steve Radley’s journey of healing as a military veteran of Iraq & Afghanistan and is informed by his training as a Priest and a Photographer. Is Mindfulness any good? We read a lot about the benefits of MINDFULNESS but chatting to people I discovered lots of us find it strange and not ‘my sort of thing’. It can feel quite inaccessible with all its talk of focusing on our breathing, letting go of our thinking and centring in the moment. I first came across MINDFULNESS whilst studying psychiatry at King’s College London and there can be no disputing the research – it’s good for us and is an ancient practice modern society has rediscovered. But I know what my people mean – it can feel hard to do because – well let’s face it – we have lots of things competing for our attention and spending time sitting cross legged meditating is not something we have the time or desire to do. Making Mindfulness accessible Through my photography training I realised this art form is an easy way into mindfulness. And this creates a wonderful possibility – we’re all taking pictures on our phones, so rather than teaching something completely new, we can simply adapt something we already do to access the benefits of mindfulness. SOULFUL VISION retreats and workshops take your photography (whether with a smartphone or camera) and help you discover how this can become a mindful activity, helping you find moments of calm within the demands of modern life. Wellbeing with a difference There are many excellent wellbeing courses and providers but many of the techniques taught are premised on self-care (eg. time management, boundary setting, kind non-judgemental thinking, etc). This is important but I believe it can only form part of the answer. There is a danger when the focus is purely self-care, that we can feel we have failed if we struggle in our life and work – we can feel we are not resilient. We will only thrive and find resilience if the environments we live and work support our resilience. Our relationships are of equal importance and we each need to support one another. For me the process of taking a picture can be both an activity of self-care and care for one another. This creates environments and cultures in which we can find resilience together, finding peace and enabling us to thrive in life. One writer on wellbeing called this a ‘virtuous circle of kindness’. Join us on a workshop or retreat. Learn a mindful approach to photography which is an act of self-care and how to share your images to learn about yourself and one another. By facilitating conversations with one another through your pictures I hope to create shared vision and understanding. This can help strengthen not only our own, but one another’s resilience and mental health as we develop a shared vision and learn about the different ways we each see life. My workshops are premised on the 5 Steps to Wellbeing, which is an approach endorsed by the NHS and described below We do not focus primarily on the technical aspects of photography. Steve will help if you get stuck! All you require is a camera you can use and an open mind to try.

Yes, my name is Dexter Moscow! It sounds made up, but the name is on my birth certificate. It certainly would be a great stage name. Although I’ve yet to realise my childhood dream of appearing as a leading man on the silver screen, a considerable amount of my practical selling experience comes from my many years appearing in front of the camera on QVC The Shopping Channel, selling £millions of products for major technology companies and other notable retailers. In addition, for 16 years, I worked behind the camera as their Chief Guest Trainer, coaching and training guest presenters and celebrities to excel at the art of ‘selling on telly’, effectively selling to an invisible audience. This experience of creating a compelling selling proposition informs my approach to sales coaching and communication in the corporate arena. I have also been an estate agent, and my early career was in advertising, working for an agency with Mafia connections. As a speaker, I talk on several topics relating to communication, selling, influence and persuasion and present on TV to corporates at symposiums and conferences. The processes and frameworks I used when coaching others on selling on TV are the same when we seek to communicate our message. I have written a book called Stand Up and Sell that enables those who follow these tried and tested processes to be more effective in their sales and presenting activities. With so much business still being conducted online, which I call this Televisual Age, I am revising my book title to Sit Down and Zoom.  As a trained voiceover, I have also been the ‘voice of god’ at award functions. My claims to fame are having popcorn thrown at me by Julia Roberts in Notting Hill, being sworn at by Kate Winslet in Branner’s Hamlet and my life as a background artist. I also have various other anecdotes about my work with Nigella Lawson, Lulu, and others and what goes on behind the scenes at QVC.

I’m Sharon. I've been sewing and making stuff for as long as I can remember and went on to study Embroidered Textile design at Glasgow School of Art, but my interest in textiles goes way beyond stitch and I have a range of textiley skills which I bring to my work.  I always wanted to learn to crochet when I was wee but with no-one to teach me it took until 2011 when I decided I was just going to have to teach myself! I was too impatient to take it step by step so jumped straight in at the deep end and just had a go at all the things I really wanted to learn to make - flowers, fruit, vegetables, animals, Amigurumi; regardless of whether the pattern said they were for beginner, intermediate or expert! Within a month or 2 I was doing some simple designing and began selling crocheted goodies and patterns through my Etsy shop. I'm totally hooked! Making up for lost time I literally haven't put my crochet hook down as I continue to fine tune, develop skills and discover even more. My approach to teaching is pretty similar. Learning a new craft is all about repitition but that doesn't mean you have to make things just for the sake of it, or because someone says it's suitable for a beginner. I would encourage anyone thinking about taking up crochet or looking to develop their skills to choose things to make that appeal to you, why not challenge yourself and I'll do my best to help and encourage you along the way. I firmly believe that if you love what you're making, even if it's a little beyond your skill level, you're more likely to enjoy, learn and be inspired by the process. And the results are all the more rewarding, even if they're not always perfect. But if you prefer to build your skills from the basics up I do suggest what skill level classes are suitable for and how tricky they are on the fiddly diddly scale! Everything we make during a CAL is designed by me and patterns are written using US crochet terms. You can create the most amazing things with the most basic of stitches and that's what I try to highlight as a designer, but I don't always do things the easiest way; where necessary I prefer to show you slightly more advanced techniques and share tips that I think will help you achieve a better and neater finish to your projects; things I wish someone had been able to show me when I was learning.  Crochet-Alongs are held online via Zoom with patterns and access being sent the evening before. On the day I have an additional camera to give guests close up hand views as we're working. A Sew Silly Lily Crochet-Along is an amazing opportunity for me to share my passion for crochet and hopefully inspire you to find out more about this beautiful and versatile craft.
