Learning languages has been my passion for many years now and after studying
German and Chinese at university and Portuguese and Spanish on my own, I've
found ways to get to that advanced level more quickly! I always found I learnt
much better on my own, but importantly, with the right resources. As a teenager,
I took French, German and Latin at school and fell in love with the feeling of
thinking and communicating with others in a foreign language. But only whilst
studying German and Chinese at university did the effective ways of learning a
language click. I’ve learnt in formal education as well as with my own methods
from home. I've used this knowledge to pass the advanced C1 and C2 exams and now
I want to share those methods and resources with you! The 3 components During my
year living in Beijing and staying with a Chinese family, I discovered that the
learning curve to the intermediate level was fairly steep, but it quickly
flattens out. To get over that hump, you have to work smarter. Speaking a lot is
crucial, but I found I felt more confident the more I exposed myself to these
three things: different accents, different speeds and a variety of topics.
