I see many children who, had they been brought to me for tutoring at an earlier stage in their education, could have achieved so much more. The good news is that, if these problems are “nipped in the bud,” they can invariably be eliminated, giving the child a distinct advantage. Also, a good understanding of the curriculum can play an important role in alleviating frustrations which, if left unaddressed, often give rise to behavioural problems. There is no substitute for personal time spent with an experienced tutor. The children appreciate the opportunity to ask me about things they have not grasped at school and their confidence, ability and enthusiasm increases exponentially as they see the benefits for themselves. Whatever a child’s level of ability, it can be reinforced and developed – and we really do see some very rewarding transformations. Even if your child attends a private prep school, this is no guarantee of success and you would be well advised to seek the services of a good tutor. For example, the father of a Yr. 4 boy who attends one such school, remarked to me recently, after attending parents’ evening at his son’s school: “Looking at his school books, you can draw a line at the point when he started at John Cashin Tuition – the improvement is that evident!” This is typical of the comments we receive from parents.

I have always had a personal interest in self help and assisted therapy and began training in NLP (Neuro Linguistic programming) over 20 years ago, I have trained with both Richard Bandler and Paul McKenna who are both recognised leaders in this field. Gaining qualifications in both hypnotherapy and psychotherapy I am a member of the National Counselling Society and the National Hypnotherapy Society and my training reflects the standards and ongoing training required by active members. Meet Amanda Flewitt, Owner & Trainer: As my 45th birthday is coming up, it got me thinking about how lucky I am to be doing a job I love. I have come a long way, literally, as I was born in New Zealand and moved to the Wirral when I was 2 years old! I’ve always been creative. I gained my Graphic Design degree from Newcastle University, then I worked in the advertising and design industry up and down the country, in Liverpool, Edinburgh, London, and Manchester. But, as it often does in life, fate intervened. I was made redundant 3 times before I was 3- years old and I decided to retrain while looking for another job. I learned how to do nails, and I carried on doing them part-time when I got a job as an Art Director in Manchester. Once I had completed my nail qualifications, I built up a client base in my spare time, carrying out treatments after work and evenings, and eventually renting a small room in a hairdresser’s. My small business grew and I decided to take the plunge to rent a larger premises and even employ staff. On the day I picked up the salon shop sign I got made redundant from the Manchester job! Wow that was not what I was expecting. But forced me to focus on making the most of it and I have never looked back. After owning a few salons in the area I an now based in the a gorgeous room in the very professional Stanlaw Abbey Business Centre, where I offer Private small group and one to one accredited training and even manage to find time to pamper my lovely loyal clients that have followed me over the last 13 years. And I love it! l have also taught beauty and nails, multi media design and even retail at West Cheshire college for 10 years, and community leisure courses in basic skincare and makeup. I love teaching, and I get such a buzz from helping someone to learn a new skill. But even better, is the feeling I get when I know that I have helped them to pursue a completely new career, or to start their own business. I personally teach all my courses, either in small groups or one to one. I love passing on hints, tips, and professional techniques to my students. I always offer them support after the course, and I invite them back to resit it if they feel like they need to. They also get access to a private Facebook group, where they can get support, access videos, and much more. My aim is to have every student leave my courses with not only a sense of achievement, but the confidence and ability to be a fantastic therapist. My work makes me feel proud, and so does juggling my career with being a mother to my wonderful, and cheeky 6-year-old son. He is my motivation, my inspiration, and my constant reminder of why I do what I do every single day. Compost Works is a Liverpool-based social enterprise with the mission of diverting food waste from incineration and landfill. We set up communal composting facilities and run educational activities to do with composting awareness. We want to inspire people in the Liverpool City Region to compost their food waste. Our premise is that food waste is not rubbish! It shouldn’t go into a landfill or be incinerated, which are not environmentally sound waste disposal practices. Composting is a natural process where food waste breaks down through the activity of microscopic organisms and larger soil creatures, such as worms. This builds soil life and makes nutrients available to plants. Since 2019, we have set up a number of composting facilities in communities and for local business across Liverpool City Region. Compost produced from these sites is used for local growing projects and to enhance community green spaces. Moulton Glass’ roots start about 15 years ago, when Andy took some evening classes in Stained Glass and instantly fell in love. In our family home we had an unused outhouse that used to be the outside wash house and loo, but he converted it into a modern workshop full of space and light to get creating. Clare was dragged in to help many a time as a teenager and reluctantly admitted defeat and actually really enjoyed making bits and helping out! Fast forward 10 years or so and Andy and Debbie (the wife/mother) sold the house (Clare still hasn’t forgiven them) and we rebooted the business in a lovely workshop in Salford. Now Moulton Glass has found it’s feet again, we recently moved back in to the lovely village of Moulton in Cheshire and have found our home on Regent Street, above the village hairdressers. We’re so excited to have a much bigger space that we can run workshops and taster sessions from, as well as invite people up to have a look at what we have made!
