Essentially Cuban in Origin, Salsa originated in the 1920’s from an unlikely mixture of African Rhythms and the melodies of the Spanish Colonies. This was called “Son”, which together with other Cuban rhythms like Rumba and Danzon, merged to create a rich four-beat musical style. In the 1950’s, Jazz, Blues and other Black American rhythms begun to influence Salsa. At this time, horns such as the trombone, trumpet and saxophone were introduced giving the music its rich distinctive sound. Other Latin rhythms such as Mambo were incorporated into the Salsa musical structure; this was reflected in the dance, creating faster and more complex footwork with more twists and turns, giving birth to the extremely stylish dance we know today as “Salsa”. The music spread rapidly with the large migration of Cuban and Puerto Rican people to America since 1959. Many famous musicians, among them Tito Puente, Tito Rodriguez, Celia Cruz & Mongo Santamaria began to play at well-known venues in New York, such as the Palladium, establishing Salsa in the United States. More recently the music migrated to Europe. With the expanding Latin American population in London there is now a thriving Salsa scene, with many Clubs and bands involved in it.

Music is a wonderful experience that can be shared with and enjoyed by everyone, evoking fun, passion, laughter and more, and I relish the good fortune that enables me to work with many fine people. Bearing in mind that everyone is different I take pride in being able to help people to play whichever style or genre that suits them, be it classical, modern or something more jazz or blues orientated. Most music played by saxophone and clarinet benefits from accompaniment which I am happy to provide as much as possible on the piano, something that is often appreciated and enjoyed, as one of the greatest pleasures of playing a musical instrument is doing it with other people. All lessons are on a one to one basis, so everyone receives my full attention and can learn and progress at their own pace within the relaxed environment of my home studio near Elgin. Initially a half hour session is sufficient and will be all that most people require, although 3/4 or hour long visits can be arranged. I am proud to have successfully worked with students of all ages and abilities, I definitely subscribe to “It’s never too late to learn” and aim to have a positive influence upon all of my students. For those that wish to take them, I enter my students in the public examination sessions run by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music including the more recently developed jazz exams.

My name is Cameron and I am a 27 year old keys player specialising in Rock, Blues, R&B, Funk and Soul music. I started playing the piano aged 8 and have been passionate about music ever since. I have many years’ experience providing piano lessons to people of all ages and abilities, in person, in schools and online. Companies I've previously worked for include Open2Music and Private Music Lessons UK. I can also teach students Classical and advanced music theory to a high standard. I produce many of my own documents to aid students’ learning and use methodical but fun teaching methods. With a diverse knowledge of subjects such as music culture/history and technology, I aim to give students a broad overview of all things music related. Education: After working through the ABRSM Classical and Jazz grades, I began studying Music and Music Tech A levels at college. From 2014 to 2016, I was tutored by highly regarded industry professionals such as Brian Henry (Soul II Soul, Mica Paris) and Frank Tontoh (Amy Winehouse, George Michael) at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, where I achieved a 2:1 in Professional Music Performance. Experience: I have a wealth of experience teaching the piano (and music in general) to children and adults of all ages and abilities, either at home, in a school environment, or online. Resources: I have created many useful documents over the years, catering to people of all ages and abilities. I also produced a single document called 'Essential Music Theory' featuring lots of information about scales, chords, progressions, melodic features, improvisation and ear training. Teaching online: Online tuition is useful as it is convenient for both the student and the teacher, especially when they are many miles away from each other. I have taught many students via Zoom and find it to be a useful and enjoyable experience. I have access to a reliable, fast internet connection and know how to deal with any issues that may arise. I can play the piano in software like Logic Pro X and this can be heard very clearly by the student on the other end (any audio I play my end can be heard). Students can also see what notes/chords I'm playing via screen-sharing and an app called 'ChordieApp'.

To prove to myself and others that I could shine in the exciting world of airline travel, I joined Thomas Cook Airlines in 2006. Training came to me as a sideways step in 2009, within my quest to increase my knowledge of the workings of the airline. Building on my initial experience, training became the main part of my role, as I enjoyed both the interaction with the trainees and the opportunity to pass on skills and knowledge. During my 11 years as a trainer with Thomas Cook, I logged over 3500 hours in the classroom, with over 1500 students, including both cabin crew and pilots. That does not include the hundreds of hours of training that took place during flights, to and from destinations all over the world. I subsequently went on to spend 4 years as a guest speaker, as part of Sheffield College's aviation department, all whilst still flying with Thomas Cook Airlines.
