Natalie Bradwell is The Iron Lady, taking on any job in metal, except cars and horseshoes! From working on docks and muddy sites, to breweries and farms, to chaotic sculpture studios and workshops, The Iron Lady has gained a range of experience in a short time. Spanning food, agriculture, oil and gas, manufacturing and arts industries – thanks to her ability to see metal as a material and communicate with clients how metal works for them. This obsession with metals; steels, copper, aluminium etc, the chemistry of change and our ability to manipulate are what drives Natalie to search for the next challenge and the next opportunity to learn. After some 15 years of experience, The Iron Lady frequently undertook private work whilst working for other companies – it all started with a falling down hay store with a salvaged forge, anvil, table, stick welder and grinder, and a trusty van. Now at her third workshop, Bradwell Blacksmiths is finally a full time concern, apprentice in tow and a light industrial workshop which is also a place of learning, experimentation, art and creativity. Most recently, The Iron Lady has started running courses in welding, fabrication, metalwork and blacksmithing, for beginners, companies and those wanting to improve their existing skills. With space and equipment for 4 people at a time, Natalie is now sharing what she has learnt from all the craftsmen and women from her past metal adventures. And so to many more adventures in metal for The Iron Lady!

Bearded Pig forge is run by myself who having a long-standing interest in the history and craft of blacksmithing decided to pursue it as a career full time. My Journey into the amazing world of blacksmithing started with four basic course days with Ross Berry at Kaos Blacksmiths, after gaining a strong foundation from Ross I started to develop my skills at my own forge and anvil by practicing the items I had been shown how to make and then by making new pieces I began to find my own style. Over several years now I have continued to develop these methods and teach myself more about this fascinating craft, expanding my knowledge and practical skills, including branching into mixed medium work such as the knives and tooling I produce. The forge is based in the grounds of Quex park in Birchington a historical site and wonderful country estate.

Maker's bio My love of woodcraft was due to a meeting with a guitarist friend who had made an acoustic guitar. We talked about his guitar for many hours and I thought it would be a challenge for me to have a go! Well that was 6 years ago and now in 2021 I am in a small workshop in Stoke where I build various instruments. The Strumstick instrument build is a great way to get to grips with fine woodworking and is an ideal step towards acoustic guitar building. No experience in woodwork is needed.

Our Story so far... Rika Bushcraft Ltd was set up by Kai in 2020 at a small campsite in Warsop. Clare Joined the company in May 2021 and shortly after we moved to our amazing 4 acre woodland site in Ravenshead. We had our grand opening in August 2021 and haven't looked back. Our site now has an archery range with us both being GB Archery instructors. We can offer archery and crossbow sessions here. We have also more recently installed an outside forge so that we can run blacksmithing sessions. Our offerings range from Home ed sessions during the week, junior and family sessions at weekends, holiday clubs, birthday parties and other family activities to full weekend and week long courses and experiences for adults. Hello and welcome – thanks for dropping in. My name is Adrian Lloyd although those that know me well find that Ade is what I answer to best. I am a full-time designer, maker and teacher and am passionate about traditional handcrafts. I live and work in North West Cumbria in a tiny farming hamlet nestled mid-way between the northernmost edge of the Lake District National Park and the Solway Coast. Most of my making and teaching takes place in an original threshing barn, one of several historic outbuildings, which, along with our 300-year-old farmhouse, surround a cobbled courtyard. I specialise in creating beautiful, functional, traditional hand-crafted items from green wood (that is wood that looks like a freshly felled tree and still contains all of its moisture) using traditional methods and razor-sharp hand tools like axes and knives. My craft is for everyday use in the kitchen and around the home, it is designed to be used hard and for a long time, hopefully by generations of the same family. I developed my passion for handcraft from a very young age and thrive when being able to ignite a new passion for creativity in others. After a design-based university education, I then spent nearly the next twenty years teaching children and adults in both formal and informal education settings, indoors and out. However, I then took the decision to pursue craft on a full-time basis and now earn my living from all things Slöjd! I have been carving on and off for the best part of probably thirty years and have added turning, furniture making, basket weaving and anything else green wood along the way. I also do some blacksmithing, bladesmithing and tool making and make all of my own bowl turning tools. I can normally be found somewhere along or between the length and breadth of this great island teaching some aspect of this wonderful craft we call greenwood, or holed up bothering some wood in my farmhouse workshop in Cumbria. I try to use only locally sourced British hardwoods in my craft that are harvested from either wind-blown trees or from sustainably managed woodland as part of a natural thinning and woodland regeneration process. I have favourite woods for specific purposes but will generally use any wood that is suitable for the function and form of the piece being worked on. I have a real interest in the way our relationships with the natural environment develop and have studied for qualifications in bushcraft leadership, practical ethnobotany and plant identification, wildlife identification and tracking and woodland management, including the identification and management of veteran trees. I draw on this knowledge and experience to ensure my teaching provides rich, holistic and rewarding learning opportunities.
