We offer secluded luxury camping in one of two yurts and four beautiful log cabins. We also run a wide range of traditional woodland craft courses throughout the year. The site extends to approximately 6 acres, of which 3.5 acres is made up of ancient woodland. We are creating a Forest Garden, an innovative and highly productive way of gardening where an open woodland ecosystem is created using a mix of both common and unusual plants, trees and shrubs - most of which are edible! Forest Garden Shovelstrode is the brainchild of Lisa Aitken and Charles Hooper who both share a passion for horticulture, self sufficiency and the firm belief in the need to preserve our heritage in traditional rural crafts for future generations. The project was conceived in 2009 whilst Charles was being filmed on the Greenwood episode of BBC TV’s programme Mastercrafts and Lisa was simultaneously learning about Forest Gardening. Since opening for business in 2010, the Forest Garden has taken shape and many guests have visited to either enjoy a yurt or cabin stay, or have taken part in one of our woodland crafts courses.

Mum of six, Kate Ball initially started Mini First Aid in 2014 from her kitchen table in Leeds, offering high quality baby & child first aid classes to parents and carers. Demand grew and Kate saw the potential for growth, so she started franchising the business in 2015. In 2021, BBC Dragon’s Den star Sara Davies, also saw the huge potential in Mini First Aid and she came on board as an investor and adviser. Mini First Aid is now a multi-award-winning organisation and has almost 70 franchises nationwide. We attended the Mini First Aid class when I was pregnant last year. Fast forward to now and my baby girl is 8months old and my training has just saved her life! My daughter began silently choking on a piece of toast and had started to turn purple, because of my training I remained as calm as can be in that situation and was able to get her in the correct position and give her some black blows and retrieve the nasty culprit. £20 I paid for that course, it was the best £20 I ever spent because my daughter's life is priceless. I know for a fact before attending the course I would have just panicked and screamed, not knowing the best course of action. Curtain Up’s History! Bath's Theatre School for children from Reception Tristan and Sarah Carter opened Curtain Up in January 2004 with just 12 students, although we have many more students now, we strive to provide quality training with the principle that every single child is important and should be recognised as an individual person, not just another face within a huge organisation. Since 2004 we have moved from strength to strength and Curtain Up is now the largest independent part time theatre school in the area. We teach children from Reception to Year 13 and in many cases heading for Performance degrees at drama school or University. We are so proud of our students’ achievements! Some of our children have received nationwide attention through the performing arts with major roles in BBC long running dramas or UK national musical theatre tours whilst other children have achieved huge personal hurdles of having the confidence to stand up and deliver their lines at the end of term performance.
