My name is Ian Flint and I am a pianist and piano teacher with over 25 years professional experience in music. After reaching the semi-finals of the “BBC Young Musician of the Year” competition, I went on to study for six years at the Royal Northern College of Music with the renowned Russian pedagogue Sulamita Aronovsky (founder of the London International Piano Competition). Therefore there is something of the so-called ‘Russian School’ in my musical DNA, with its focus on richness of sound coupled with economy and effectiveness of physical movement. During this period I appeared frequently as solo recitalist, chamber musician and concerto soloist in concert series and festivals, with a wide repertoire including major works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Liszt, Debussy, Ravel, Rachmaninov, Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Barber etc. I also took part in masterclasses with Paul Badura-Skoda and Denis Matthews. For my post-graduate studies I was awarded a scholarship from the Countess of Munster Trust. These two years continued the focus on piano performance, combined with a thesis (a re-evaluation of Rachmaninov’s 1st and 4th Piano Concertos). It was also at the RNCM where I gained my first experience of teaching the piano, which I have carried on since, in combination with a career in the music publishing industry. My former company (Edition Peters) collaborated on various projects with the two main examination organisations, Associated Board (gb.abrsm.org) and Trinity (www.trinitycollege.co.uk), which gave me a valuable insight into the philosophy of the examination systems. In recent years I have given piano performances and lecture-recitals for “The Rachmaninoff Society” in several countries, in venues such as London’s South Bank Centre and New York’s Juilliard School.

Adobe Certified Expert & Instructor | BA | MSc I have over 15 years of working experience in Design, Photography and Media, allowing me to maintain a wide variety of skills that assist in supporting students, professionals and enthusiasts involved in the Creative industries. Currently, I'm freelancing and teaching MSc Design at the University of Edinburgh. Since I started teaching in 2013, I have taught other educators, art directors, creative professionals but also students of all ages (5 to 75!) and abilities, including individuals with learning and behavioural difficulties. Moreover, I have delivered bespoke Adobe creative training for clients such as the BBC, SKY, WWF, NHS, ILGA, Roche, The National Gallery and several Universities and Colleges. Since 2015 I've continuously been one of the very few Adobe Certified Instructors and Experts. Because of my comprehensive knowledge of the Adobe software and digital media theory, I received a series of certifications from Adobe, such as Educator Specialist in Visual and Video Design, Digital Imaging and Digital Creativity Expert for classrooms, Expert in Digital Media and Creativity Training and Adobe Education Trainer, accrediting me to train other educators. I have achieved an MSc in Design and Digital Media (with distinction) from the University of Edinburgh, where I chose to work with 3D, Motion Graphics, VFX, UI/UX, Video Game Design and AR/VR. I specialised in VR experiences made with Unreal Engine and particle systems. I have also achieved a 1:1 BA (Hons) focused on Photography and Audiovisual Arts, where I had the opportunity to experiment with different forms of visual and digital art whilst specialising in Architecture Photography and Image Editing. Moreover, I hold a Digital Photography certificate from the University of Harvard. My latest experience is focused on delivering lessons and lectures in Digital Media and Visual Arts as well as my freelance projects. To hear my voice click on the readings FUNERALS - I decided to become a funeral celebrant after being truly touched and inspired by my Mum’s Celebrant-led funeral. I had never heard of a Celebrant Ceremony and I was amazed at how personal and special it was, and how it really helped my family in our early stages of grief. WEDDINGS - It was a natural progression for me to become a Wedding Celebrant, and I was thrilled to be asked to do a Ceremony for my sister’s wedding. I love to create and write special and fitting celebrations, and totally love hearing people’s stories of love and writing them into ceremonies!

Folkestone's Local Radio Station 105.9 Academy FM is the Community Radio station for the Folkestone area, and an educational charity. We are unique and won School Radio Station of the Year and BBC Sounds Rising Talent Awards at the Young Audio Awards. We've also won national Community Radio Awards in 2016, 2017 and 2018 for our broadcasting and educational work. We are based in the Folkestone Academy school, and broadcast to the local area on 105.9 FM and online. We have a small team of staff and a large group of volunteers. Our charitable educational work is mainly with young people - they are trained in radio production and along the way learn self-confidence and communication skills, and we run projects on literacy, science, the arts, heritage and many more subjects. I am a fully qualified art tutor and began working in Adult Education over 20 years ago for Leicestershire County Council. When a unit became available to rent by the canal, I decided this was just too much of a great opportunity to miss and so began running my own classes from my gallery space. The business has gone from strength to strength and I have lots of regular students who attend my weekly classes as well as attendees to the weekend workshops which I offer, usually twice a month. In 2019 I was chosen to appear on BBC One on the new art TV series 'Home is where the art is' with presenter Nick Knowles which was a fabulous experience. This then led to me pushing my art further afield and striking up a working relationship with the SAA. I have my own watercolour book coming out in 2023, signature watercolour paints are due out 2022 along with a brush set. Loving art of a different kind, I am a black belt and currently a world champion in Tae Kwon-Do at hand power - have been British Champion breaking boards and held many more titles from this martial art and Judo
