Community Literacy Centers, Inc. (CLC) 501 (c)(3) is a private, nonprofit organization established in 1987 by judges, educators, attorneys and citizens in Oklahoma County who acknowledged the benefits of a more literate society. In 1997, CLC established and implemented the LEAP (Learning, Enriching, Achieving, Preparing) program which now serves as the foundation for all CLC services. Through LEAP, cooperative partnerships are formed with various Oklahoma County agencies to provide literacy services to agency clients and adults (18 years of age or older) in the surrounding community. Classes are typically conducted at partner sites, however, some classes are currently taught virtually via Zoom. CLC classes include Adult Basic Education (ABE), English as a Second Language (ESL), U.S. Citizenship and/or High School Equivalency (HSE) instruction. Workplace Learning Solutions (WLS) and Tutor Training are also encompassed within the LEAP program. OUR VISION Our vision is to change lives by increasing awareness of the benefits of a more literate community and providing a welcoming environment where every adult who wants to read has an opportunity to learn. WHAT WE DO CLC provides free classroom instruction to approximately 1,000 adults in the metropolitan area each year; volunteer tutors are available in the classroom for students who need additional support. CLC instructors cultivate a supportive, nurturing classroom environment in which to foster learning and positively impact the lives of our students. CLC administers assessments and surveys at regular intervals to monitor student progress and needs; CLC adult learners come from varied backgrounds and skill levels.

For a child who cannot swim, this can lead to disaster. It becomes particularly dangerous if the adults around a child cannot swim either. An instance where a child who innocently stumbles into a bucket of water, falls from a boat, leans over too far while looking at fish in a fish pond, falls or is pushed by another child into a pool could turn deadly if that child can't swim. From our watertoddlers to our adults, the safety of all our swimmers is our first priority. Swimming is an extremely important life saving skill that you should not neglect. Our philosophy is simple To passionately deliver the highest quality swimming experience to toddlers, children and adults while staying safe, having fun and keeping fit. Our classes are built around safety in the water. Our focus is to teach swimming from toddler to adulthood in a safe environment for all swimmers. We encourage parents to get involved in teaching their toddlers basic safety skills in the water and we assist parents to develop their toddlers’ natural swimming ability. As with any activity, an element of fun must always be present. Fun motivates us to continue to learn and hang in there when things become a little more challenging. Welcome to Haydock Connect Welcome to Haydock Connect: The last couple of years have been the most difficult for many in a life time. As a charitable training organization we took the difficult decision to close and remain closed to protect the health of both staff and students. ...Where do we go from here? At the time of writing, the Omicron variant is starting to affect many countries including the UK. We are hopeful that the outcome will not be as devastating or as dangerous to our health as previous outbreaks. With this in mind we are planning to start offering introductory courses in the very near future. Taking into consideration the difficulties that our school leavers have experienced over these last couple of years we have decided to lower the age of opportunity to learn to 16years upwards. What do we offer? We are a City & Guilds authorised training centre but at this time we will be offering introductory courses to domestic electrical installations, renewal energy, web design and basic car maintenance. By the end of the course you will have a very good idea just what is involved and if it would be the kind of career you would enjoy. We are hoping to re-open in March 2022 and so keep checking our web site for more information regarding the exact date we will be starting and application forms or simply to give us a call. Since I was a little girl I have always enjoyed dancing and took part in all the dance activities in school. In 2007, I was introduced to Salsa and I absolutely loved it. Not only did I enjoy the social aspect of Salsa, dressing up and wearing heels, I also enjoyed losing weight and getting into shape. However the weight loss did not last long as I had problems with my digestive system and my weight just ballooned. In January 2011 I decided I wanted to change my life and lose weight. I heard a lot about Zumba Fitness® and joined a class and signed up to Slimming World to help me with my diet. After a few months I was addicted to Zumba® and in August 2011 I decided to train as a Zumba® Instructor. Shortly after qualifying I opened Zumba® classes in Barking and Goodmayes. The Zumba® Fitness workout gives you different styles of music such as Salsa, Reggaeton, Cha Cha, Merengue, Cumbria to name a few with basic dance steps that gives you a great workout while having fun and meeting new friends. To date I am a fully qualified fitness instructor, Personal Trainer, Pilates Instructor and Sports Coach. I have lost 9 stone during my weight loss journey and I am now fitting into clothes that are size 10 – 8!! I feel so happy and healthy that I now want to give something back to help others get themselves started on a path to feeling healthy again.
